africaken254: http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-26673/ "Denel has signed a 340 million euro (R3.5 billion) contract with Malaysia to supply a range of turret and integrated weapon systems to be fitted onto 8 X 8 armoured infantry fighting vehicles... Denel Land Systems (DLS)....responsible for a number of strategic components that have been designed and developed at its campus in Lyttelton:. 69 x two man turrets fitted with the South African GI30 30mm main gun. 54 x missile turrets equipped with the GI30 30mm gun and Denel Dynamics Ingwe anti-tank missile system. The order also includes the supply of 216 laser-guided Ingwe missiles.54 x remote control weapons systems" This deal is thanks most in part to the Badger/Hoefyster project, so it's already making money.

MikeCZAR:Yes!! also read on Janes that they are receiving an upgrade, would be nice to replace the 76mm with a naval version of the G5. Also an upgrade to the Exocet block 3 or SAAB RBS15 |

patches689:damn Chinese!! "The single largest allocation of funds to the maritime arm of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) – at just over a quarter of the total budget of R4.355 billion – goes to the SA Navy combat capability. This is made up of the four Valour Class frigates, three Heroine Class submarines, a mine counter-measures squadron and three offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) supported by four Super Lynx maritime helicopters, operated by the SA Air Force’s (SAAF’s) 22 Squadron. As far as its objectives are concerned the SA Navy will defend and protect South Africa and its maritime zones providing, among others two OPVs and three inshore patrol vessels (IPVs) in each operational cycle. Armscor has issued tenders for the acquisition of three of each class of vessels with tender results probably going to be announced later this year. Indications are the final delivery of the new vessels will be around 2023. This sees the SA Navy fulfilling its objectives for the foreseeable future with three OPVs. These are former Warrior Class strikecraft that have been converted to patrol vessels. Maritime logistic support comprises just on 30% of the maritime budget with base support coming in at 17.7% and human resources and training accounting for 11.9%" |

agaugust:Dude you've done this before!! Remember when I just joined the thread you also said I was that American guy criticizing the JF17......Remember that? Also no offence to Croat, but he's been wrong on one or two occasions regarding our weaponry, something Patches rarely/Never gets wrong! Also they don't wright in the same manner. Lastly Neither Nigeria or South Africa are English speaking countries YET we are here typing in English to each other, so to suggest that a person from a non-English speaking country wont come to an English thread is ignorance at its finest!! 4 Likes |

africaken254: ...and? Infrantry ATGM's are stationary, based on line of sight and single missile and you expect vehicle to stand still? APC will move, use tree, bushes, rocks, etc for cover and when it is close it will fire dozen's of shots at the ATGM site. |

africaken254: There was one country that was interested in Rooivalk, but wanted it to be tested in combat. Performance against M23 has proven that Rooivalk is combat worthy thus countries have expressed interest, if Denel manages to get enough orders to achieve mass production thus they can lower prices then many countries will be interested to buy it. 1 Like |

africaken254: Dont mind army guide posting a whole bunch of wrong info on that cannon, all those specs they call unique are available on other countries 30mm cannon, some marketing guy fed them with wrong data and they swallow it. Maximum effective range of GI-30 from Denel data sheet is 3 km. Maximum rate of fire is 200 rpm, and if the Badger faces ambush or swarm attack by enemy terrorists in Toyota gun trucks its slow rate of fire will be a big disadvantage, the Russian/Ukrainian made 30mm autocannon has selected rate of fire options of 200 rpm, 300 rpm, 550 rpm, 800 rpm for different levels of enemy threat. You don't need to waste ATGM to kïll a Badger IFV, one single T-72 tank will destroy one hundred Badger IFVs in 2 hours with no reply from the Badger IFV battalions. It's a $5 million price per vehicle rip off by Finland on Denel, a very bad deal, reason why it dragged from 1997 to 2016 with only 5 experimental units produced in Finland. Yet the people concerned are blinded by national ego they dont see they have been ripped off. Badger is more expensive than new year 2011 extra hi-tech MS variant T-90 tank that combines missiles with its main gun. 1 Like

MikeCZAR:Money isn't the most important factor. We were successful because the Nigerian navy could deploy capital assets at short notice, maintain a constant presence at sea and superior training. Never has an African navy carried out an opposed boarding. This is the first time that an opposed boarding and an anti-piracy operation of this scale has been executed by an African navy. It is a very big deal and an achievement worth celebrating. NNS Okpabana and NNS Sagbama acted as the anvil, while NNS Centenary was the spear. A well coordinated and an unprecedented mission. 8 Likes 1 Share

Six of these vessels were sold to tompolo. Does anyone know if Nigerian Navy have seized them since the guy is on the run now. They are armed with SSM and it's about 36m in length. They will surely be good assets for Nigerian Navy.
