EL-RUFAI NEW LAWS * In Kaduna you cannot preach without license * Every preacher will have to go and get ONLY one year license (renewable every year). That is, you must always preach without an expired license or you risk 2 years imprisonment. * If you invite any external preacher (i.e. preacher outside kaduna state), such a person must be licensed for the duration of his/her stay and the body issuing the license has the right to reject external preacher they feel is not qualify to preach in Kaduna state. * Every preacher who want to be licensed will appear before a screening committee. If he/she scales through, he/she will only be given licensed for one year. * The law criminalizes the use of CDS, Flash Drive and other communication gadgets except in religious building or inside your house. * That means, you will be arrested for listening to preaching or religious music inside your cars or in any open place except in your house or religious building. * If you preach without license, you are guilty of offense punishable with 2 years imprisonment or a fine of 200,000. You can’t use microphone in your church after 8pm you are guilty of offense punishable with 2 years’ imprisonment or a fine of 200,000. * Since all preaching must be done within a building, it means public evangelism will be criminalized. Those who preach early morning, known by some as morning cry and preaching inside bus if arrested will be fined N200,000. * This could also means, people will not be allowed to go out for evangelism on streets or move with vehicles with address systems to advertise their programs.

I thougt it was a joke when I first saw it on facebook, he should rather face real issues affecting Kaduna as a state than on religious matter. I know what he is driving at, his doings will surely catch up with him.

El Rufai is being proactive. Preachers can be very annoying, early morning noises from megaphones and micro phones constitute nuisance. Some would bang on your doors and windows for those living in shared houses and compounds trying to force people out to worship. Some people work at nights only to come back home in the morning to sleep but the preachers wouldn't allow you to have peace and quiet. When these people complain, they are branded witches, wizards, enemies of progress and all sorts.

There should be fairness in the implementation though. I do hope that the early morning calls from the sound systems mounted on the mosques would be affected too.

Blocking and disruption of traffic flow for religious reasons should be looked into and stopped.

There should be some regulation in the use of buildings for preachings. Noise from public address systems should be regulated especially in residential areas. It's a nightmare to live close to any of those people who use warehouses, flats and other open spaces to preach. You can't even hear yourself talking or having conversation with someone in your own house.

Is Kaduna now a Sharia state? When Christians there were joining Muslims to vote for an Islamic party I wonder what they were thinking, feel sorry for them, but this is part of the change they were promised

Too many cracks in the fibre of peace in this Nation. Never has this country been divided along religious, tribal and ethnic lines. Clouds are gathering,it might soon rain with a very devastating thunderstorm.tongue

Another returned truckload of trash from GarbageCity!!

We dont need an expository from the media to know this is all about Sharia.( if this news is true)

All these laws affect Christian a 100%

why always Kano and Kaduna?

An eyeopener that the office of deputy, Vice has been watered down from its relevance to just a mere magnet for sympathy votes.

To him now, he's achieved something.

If Christian states do some cruel laws that affects other religions, i doubt they'l abide. So sad.

Logically, Nigeria is technically answering Chinua Achebe

I believe in God but I have to admit those all night crusades and early morning preaching that disrupts my night activity can be very annoying and frustrating most times.

Anyway back to the topic since he said preaching I think it should affect all religions that are currently practiced in Kaduna State and not just Christianity or Islam

I am not a Pentecostal Christian but it is obvious that these laws are targeted towards Christian Pentecostalism. Some people might be rejoicing that at least noise pollution by both Christians and Moslems will be gone but if you read in between the lines, there is trouble written all over this new laws. The noise pollution part is the dummy part to mask the real intentions of that law.
Banning listening or watching of religious media outside church is a basic breach of fundamental right of freedom of worship. "Preachers" having to face screening committee and obtain license before performing another fundamental human right is outrageous. So if TD Jakes for example is coming to Kaduna, he will have to come like a week earlier and be screened before being able to preach?
Again no use of microphone after 8pm who do you think that is for? So no mic in vigils and night crusades.
Let me see if the so called human rights lawyers and Kaduna will just sit back watch this happen.
Politicians are problem of this country. If they allow this to hold, soon other northern states will follow suit and may be some southern ones will make their revenge laws and the anarchy continues.

He knows what he is doing, this law is targeted more at his muslim brothers and sisters, many preachers twist doctrines and evil sects are born. Boko haram came from such flawed system. The el zazaky shia group islamic movement are evil fanatics who grew because they were not regulated.

Can you explain y anarchy will rain, this is one pro active / progressive law ever enacted in Nigeria.
Must T D Jake come to Nigeria to preach? Must one mullah come from Afghanistan to explain the Quran to you.
The next law I expecting is a HEAVY tax on religious activities in this country.

This is wonderful. For all the religious bigot condemning him, I have a question for you, just mention one European country where this religion madness is allowed? Preach in the bus, train or public place in US, UK or any other country and have yourself bundle out of the place. You cannot constitute nuisance in the name of evangelism irrespective of religion. El-rufia ride on. We need it all over Nigeria.

No doubt about that but responsibility and concern for other people's welfare should be exercised in dispensing the gospel.

When the preaching methods constitute discomfort and nuisance to others then the aim of the preaching would have been defeated.
