Hello House, Just to let current and prospective Oakbend Mamas know that they can pay the Hospital fees using Form A. I just paid DW's hospital fees using the form A from Stanbic. It seems like Stanbic is currently the most reliable bank in Nigeria when it comes to International transactions. Diamond wasted 1 week of my time only for them to tell me that CBN don't approve form for Child Birth after an initial debit transaction in my account. The charges for the form by Stanbic are quite friendly compared to WU or MG........Offshore Charge = $25, Telex Charge = N4000, Bank Charge = 0.525% of the transaction amount. Transaction was processed in less 24 hours..... Also, kudos to Dr. E for making a strong case for direct wire transfer....She actually met with Oakbend VP to make this case. I think she has even set up her Clinic for direct wire transfer too....Though we paid her fees in cash... Thanks to Firsttymum for suggesting form A medium when the dollar crunch was at its peak.....God Bless you.... 12 Likes |

A lil bit rested so i thought i should share my POE story. I left Nigeria on the 1st of march via united airline(LOS-HOU-ATL) and was asked for fit to fly(remember to make a copy). wasted a lil time weighing and removing stuff from my luggage to conform to the airlines requirement. Each passenger is entitled to 2 23kg luggage and 1 12kg hand luggage which must fit into their "hand luggage measurement whatever" (don't know what it is called). I was made to jump the queue cos i was pregnant but sometimes you have to plead your way through to the front of the queue. I pleaded with the airline lady to find me a good seat but when i checked she didn't give me a seat where i would be comfortable so i upgraded myself to the economy plus section by using the airline website to see the economy plus seats that were not taken, smiled and asked if anyone had come to claim the seat. so it was a guy, nobody then me so i didn't have anyone disturbing me to ease himself/herself. i probably would have had three seats to myself but by the time i checked online, some smart guy had taken the seats that where unoccupied. The airlines earpiece is really bad, so i suggest you get your own if you like watching movies. We were given dinner, dessert and breakfast. Please feel free to take extra bottles of water from the air hostess and keep some as you will feel really thirsty later on and also to ask for something to eat in between the flight if you feel hungry because nobody may ask you how you feel ( You could also bring snacks from home). I made friends with another pregnant woman. we both massaged each others backs. I got to houston by 5am(American time) and already saw the wheel chair guys waiting(i didn't use a wheel chair in Nigeria). i was wheeled to the CBP officer and already had my file in hand ready for questioning. officer- what are here for? Me- I am here for vacation and childbirth Officer- Did you state that in your application? Me- i didn't initially because i wasn't pregnant but i sent the embassy a mail Officer- And i am sure you don't have that mail Me- yes i do have the mail( i printed all my correspondence with the embassy, hospital, obgyn,Hospital receipt and even got my twin brother write a guarantor's letter although non all these was looked at). Office-How much do you have? Me- I have $4012 Officer- You have $4k dollars and you want to have a baby in the US Me- i have already paid my hospital bill He asked me to be wheeled to another room to check the status of my visa. I met some other Nigeria folks that were on my plane. In less than 10 minutes i was called by another officer. Officer- You said you are here for child birth. How much do you have on you? Me-i have $4012, money on my card and paid my hospital bill (he didn't ask for any of them) Officer- Ok just make sure you don't take any med-aid and bring all your receipts on your next trip then stamps me in for 6months. i was wheeled to agriculture where my bags were scanned because i indicated i had food on the form given on the flight. I had grounded egusi, knor cube(plain), grounded ogbono, grounded pepper soup spice, grounded pepper, dried fish, crayfish(not grounded, dried uziza and utazi leave, frozen pap, bitter leaf and ugbaka.(Igbo pple will understand some of these stuff). My indomie chicken was seized and i had two pieces of agbalumo (lol) which i forgot to finish up that were also thrown away, nothing else was seized. The wheel chair lady really tried pushing me and my luggage that i had to really tip her cos i probably would have missed my connecting flight if she didn't pull some strings. i got to atlanta and couldn't find my ghana-must-go of foodstuff. i complained to the airline and they promised to bring it to the house later that day, which they did. PS- i am nt using Dr valisia Andrews. therefore apart from the information i got initially i cant give any other info on her. I decided to use North Atlanta OB/GYN. Just decided one day to change her, so i sent her a mail to cancel my appointment. still hoping it was a smart choice because i don't know the entire bill the new OBGYN charges except the doctors fee of $2200. My appointment is still two plus weeks away but i accepted it because i have not had any complications in my pregnancy and that was there closest date they could get for me. That's it folks. personally Houston POE is not that bad. just be ready with your answers and probably even holding your file shows the officer you are ready to prove anything. Best of Luck 10 Likes |
