I think some Nairalanders have set their brain to "criticize anything that comes from Aregbe or Osun"! If it's Fayose, the comments would be positive - like; wow! Swagacious Governor, my role Model etc.
Can any of the Wailers reminds me the last time Fayose was pictured on Nairaland either inspecting a project or commissioning a completed one?
Despite the little resources at his disposal, yet he's still doing and commissioning projects! Seems some Wailers are bunch of Hungers! They are expecting the Governor to be paying salaries alone without doing any capital project(s)!
I pity some Yorubas who join in castigating Aregbe and praising Fayose! When was the last time Obiano is pictured cutting Ponmo and eating at a Buka?! While Obiano is developing his State, Fayose is engaging in frivolity.
Our Brothers across the River Niger are happy and only catching funs with the foolishness of Fayose (cos they never pray or wish for the developments of the South-West)! They only want to be seeing brown Roofs, not any eye-catchy projects!
I rest my case cos a word is enough for a wise!

The problem with Aregbe is this: It's all well and good commissioning grand education projects but if you are not commisioning any industrial projects, if you are not attracting investors to your state, how is the state going to get the funds to maintain these school facilities, especially for a state that is struggling to pay it's workers? You commission a nice looking school but you don't pay the teachers who are expected to teach, does he think those kids are going to get a quality education? Education is not about beautiful schools, it's about the quality of the teaching. Who cares about basketball court that will become overgrown with weeds in a year because govt has no funds for maintenance or to supply new basketballs once the ines bought for commisioning and show to the media have worn out.

We need to get away from this mentality of "I built this, I commissioned that" A project that cannot be sustained is a waste of resources and I can bet you that all these schools will likely be run down and in a state of disrepair in 5-10 years. A state that cannot pay salaries will not have money to repaint schools or buy new lab equipment, or new books.

Western Nigeria pre independence was the most educated region in Nigeria due mainly to Awolowo's free education programme. If you study history, you will know that "Awolowo schools" were ridiculed initially because those schools were little more than blocks and a roof. However the quality of the teachers meant those who attented got a quality education the likes of which you'll struggle to get today, those students ended up as lawyers, engineers and doctors and led to the development of the region to the point that Awolowo's education program is a reference point for education in Africa till date. . It's not about what a building looks like but the quality of teaching. If you have money by all means build fancy looking schools but when you are struggling to pay your teachers, I doubt your students, irrespective of the type of buildings will receive any quality education while their teachers a routinely in debt because they are owed salaries.

Let's get our priorities right!!

He won't be the last governor of Osun. The next governor can work on that. He has work on infrastructure in his tenure, the next governor in few years can work majorly on human development for 8 years. America is not built in a day, but for more than 200 years.

He is simply creating problems for his successor. Dont be surpriseed if in ten years that school is run down, I can bet you in 10 years the airport he is building will also be run down. Aregbe is a man with a poverty mentality, people like him should not be in govt, dont get me wrong better him than Omisore. Ibadan has an airport (that is hardly viable) if a town like Ibadan cannot justify an airport, why does Osogbo need an airport.... just so that the poverty mentality in him can brag that Osogbo an airport....airport for who? When you embark on all these white elephant projects that aren't viable, you make life hard for your successor and ultimately for yourself but his myopia cant see it. He may get praise today but ultimately when his projects fail, he will be ridiculed. Great leaders think and embark on projects that are sustainable, not just a project for show and popularity. There is a reason why Awolowo's projects; Liberty stadium, NTA ibadan, OAU Ife, Cocoa house are still viable and standing today....planning!!! Odua Investment company is still paying dividends on it's various investments around the world (they own propertires in England for instance) to all former members of the old western state till today.

Aregbe introduced free feeding in schools, has it not failed? Because he couldn't pay for it!! If he were a thinking man, shouldn't he have brought in agric investors to farm tha vast untapped land in Osun and provide the food that the state would buy for it's feeding programme (ready market for investors), the investors would provide jobs for his people, the jobs plus the taxes from the investors would pay for his free feeding programme, so that it's a win-win? But as the typical brain-fart of a governor, he spends first and then retrench later!! A lot of governors are finding out that it is easy to spend than to earn, any idiot can spend, a true leader spends what he can earn or spends to bring you future earnings. A true leader thinks about how everything is linked together, there is the story of how Awolowo said if I educate my people, they will read newspapers and newspapers will sell more papers and employ more people and pay more taxes and he was ultimately proved right. You just dont embark on projects just to look good in the short term.

Fear of failure or hoping other people fail or even hoping what they build crumbles is not any kind of excuse not to be productive and leave something for the next generation.

Hoping he fails is not a credible argument and it doesn't change the fact that he left something behind unlike the people you support and call your hero with nothing to show or hand over to the next generations.

No matter what, what he built and left behind in mortar and stone remains forever...

Aregbe to me doesnt look like a guy going all out to impress with big projects. I see him as a man with passion and drive to make his state great but he is lacking in some fundamental senses. Also, no matter how noble ur mission is, the moment corruption started ingressing u loose ur mojo. The airport initiative sound great initially because planned to serve as a cargo airport which would have opened the state up for bussiness while providing alternative to lagos and Kano. But when an aiport that should not have have exceeded 5-7 billion is gulping 20 billion, left a lot to be admired. Judging Aregbe on Awo seem to me injustice to Aregbe. Awo is a god... How many Africa politicians can measure up to Awo?. I think Aregbe major mistake was working with commisioners and advisers that cant advice him. He sought for advice from individuals that have no idea of what the state purse look like . They gave him recommendations that could only have been succesfully executed by states like Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom because they have no idea of what his state is worth. That lead to his second mistake of over borrowing... Who borrow to do project in the time of plenty? When e go pay am back. Aregbe borrowed a lot of money when his states was earning an unprecedented allocation, he is so ignorant that he doesnt know that oil spike dont last forever, and that after every cycle of oil spike comes a slump. Just like joseph 7 years of plenty and 7 years of farmine. Aregbe was planning to pay back his debt during farmine...lol. Aregbe using bail out fund to complete project while workers salaries are left unpaid is barbaric and it shows that Aregbe is very close to an Idiot.... The guy just refuse to learn. Choice between Omisore and Aregbe in 2014 was an easy choice though... Because Aregbe still dey think of doing projects. As a contractor, politician, deputy governor, senator all Omisore have done is benefit his purse and intimidate others... Trails of unexecuted contracts from roads to OAUTHC...
