Goodday House,

1. Is it possible for me to still get admitted this year considering the timeline from march to application deadline dis 2016 (God's willing I score high in both exams)?
2. Any tips on passing the GRE n TOEFL pls?
3. Also, please I would be glad if u can help me with schools having low tuition fees in the US...

Will be very happy to hear from y'all
Thanks

Lemme answer u the best way I can.

1. Yes, it is still possible. Most of the unis admit students on a rolling basis. Although getting funding may be too late. If u get money to pay school fees and all, it's not too late. Some schools go still dey admit till around June. This means if na scholarship u d find, could be late but if na just admission. There is still time.
2. Tips on passing toefl and gre. Well, different strokes for different folks. I am a lazy student. I didn't prepare for Toefl or GRE. I just studied Gruber for one week. I didn't fail sha. Get materials, u fit go for lessons, etc. Anyone u prefer.
3. You have to check Google out. I think the minimum na total package of 23k usd. Saw it somewhere. Go to www. Msinus . Com and check wella, there's a link to it somewhere.

Finally, u need to b sure about this cos u go spend money and time o. If u think it's possible to get urself sorted quickly (transcript, reference letters, etc.), go for it. If not, relax and prepare for next terms(spring or fall 2017).

PS: a very wonderful letter of motivation goes a long way, it could cover up for a low cgpa, low toefl/gre scores, anything. Write in an interesting manner, let the reader see how gingered u are and it could give a strong impression that u're the student they want.

Lol... efiko ke? Far from it. I felt so underprepared, I decided to cancel the test and take the partial refund (half payment). Na the exchange rate make me no do am. I paid 58k (205usd at 285 naira) and they were going to refund 20k (102 usd at 197 naira). I just vex go do the exam. Answered d ones I was sure of, the rest na sense I use. It can't be E, not A, B is wrong. Could b C or D... make I choose D jare. U know that kind thing. No copy my style o. Maybe I got lucky, 301 na still average score. Could have done better if I prepared.

I'm glad u found my answers helpful. You're welcome bro.

Hello folks. When is the ideal time to go to Walter Carrington for the Visa interview for Fall 2016.

Thanks.

I didn't get an answer to my first question. Well I got another one. I got a bank statement from a relative in the US.
A friend of mine said VO may deny me / be sceptical of giving a visa, since the account is from US and I may not plan coming back to Naija, coupled with that my school is in the same state in which my uncle resides.

I need advice ooo. Has any1 here experience such a situation.

From what I've garnered on here, there is no ideal. Just go as soon as u can bearing in mind the 120 days rule.

Uniben won't confirm your transcript verification to WES until you pay a processing fee of N1100 to Zenithbank. So get back to your contact

This is a bad idea. Are you going for an immigrant or non-immigrant visa? You don't even have anything tying you to home and how do you want to prevent getting a 214(b) during your interview?

Quoting:

What constitutes ‘Strong Ties’?

Actually, there is no standard definition for ‘Strong Ties.’ What constitutes strong ties will differ from country to country, city to city, and individual to individual. "Ties" are the various aspects of your life that bind you to your country of residence: your family and social relationships, employment, and possessions. Some examples of ‘ties’ can be family, a job or business, a house, a bank account, and investments. Each person's situation is different.

Consular officers are trained for and aware of this diversity. During the visa interview they consider professional, social, cultural and other factors each person presents. In cases of younger applicants who may not have had an opportunity to form many ties, consular officers may look at specific intentions, family situations, and long-range plans and prospects within the country of residence.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I'm really glad I stumbled across this forum.
I've just gone through some of the previous discussions and they've been really enlightening. Getting a US student visa from Nigeria seems to be even more difficult than getting admitted into a US school in the first place.

I have a few questions (for any one in a position to answer):

1. Does the school you're admitted to have any bearing on the success/failure of your visa application/interview. For eg. let's say I have an I-20 form from Harvard College. Would that 'guarantee' me a US student visa from Nigeria?.

2. Can anyone offer any 'specific' information on scholarships that can be applied for prior to admission to a US university (for Nigerian students). [I got 2280 on the SAT I, 770 (Math Level II) and 790 (Physics) on the SAT II].

3. Considering my 1530/1600 score on the SAT Verbal (CR+W), do I still need to take the TOEFL to impress the folks at the visa office? $180 is a lot of money and I'd rather not have my parents spend it if they don't absolutely have to. MIT and Harvard waived the TOEFL for me since I did well on the SAT Verbal, but I would still gladly take it if it would help with my visa application. I can't imagine being denied a student visa if I do get admitted to an Ivy.

4. And finally...in my application for a student visa (for undergraduate studies), does the bank statement I submit have to show funds sufficient to cover the total cost of attendance for all 4 years or for just the first year?

Thanks.

Nothing is a 100% guarantee. grin
Even if you were smart enough to get full scholarship from Harvard The visa officer may still not be happy.

(But it is much better than some backstreet community college which will almost certainly fail.) shocked

Everybody should remember!
The American system takes it that you intend to migrate (overstay / be illegal.)
UNLESS you prove otherwise.
It is all down to the visitor to show sufficient evidence.

It is not a conspiracy or racist, it's just their system.

Nothing really guarantees a visa, but getting an admission into an Ivy will give you a lot of edge.

1. It does not guarantee it, but I am sure you will have a high chance of getting the visa
2. If you apply to midrange schools, you might get a full ride scholarship with your SAT score. But Ivy League, I do not know of. But that is some pretty good score man (If I had your SAT score, I would not settle for less, and would not come to America without a full ride scholarship.
3. Man I do not think you need to take TOEFL, because if Havard and MIT can waive it for you, man.... But I believe the SAT has covered the grounds of the TOEFL. people without standardized test even got their visas, talkless of you with a high SAT score. If you can defend yourself well, I do not think you can be denied
4. No just for one year.

That is an email message from Ball state university admission department, does that really mean I shouldn't take SAT and TOEFL , and hope it will not be a problem at the embassy for not taking any of the test. CUs the should waive Toefl for Nigeria student, Nigeria been a English speaking country and the school does require SAT from international student. So regular admission is guarantee to Nigeria student not conditional one CUs they found Nigeria a English proficiency country and been part of the country the school waive Toefl 2, pls house which advice can u give ? I hope if I dont take the test it will not b a problem at the embassy.
