The reality is that at the moment, Nigeria does not have the capacity to support foreign education. Those who can afford it should continue, but Nigeria can no longer subsidize foreign education at this moment. Next will be medical bill (just watch out) 6 Likes |

MKO4ever: But we have enough forex to sponsor for pilgrimage? We have enough forex to buy exotic cars? We have enough to some few elites education abroad? We have enough forex for Buhari to junker around the world? No one is saying the government should sponsor, these persons can afford their children's fees, but no forex to pay for the fees. What Ben Murray Bruce is saying is, education is important and should not be restricted from getting forex. 7 Likes |

maverickdude: Does the CBN subsidise the FX for importation of cars? The argument here is that the CBN doesnt subsidise dollars at official rate (N197) for school fees payment. |

The forex is available for those who want to pursue foreign education, albeit not at official rate. Bruce missed the point. 3 Likes 1 Share |

feldido: Ofodirinwa: Oz4realsss: It is obvious you did not listen to Mr President's interview with Aljazeerah and it is more obvious that you know nothing about FX Market. Mr President never said there is no FX for education, the question is, 'at what rate' Even if you wish to import toothpick and require FX, you will definitely get it, but at what rate? If the government allows school fees to be paid at the official rate, then the government is subsidizing the school fees. Therefore Mr President was only saying that school fees will no longer be subsized because we can no longer support it. Do you know the simple implication? Any time government subsize FX payment, our reserve is directly affected Please go back and watch the video interview and you will see that Ben Bruce was talking nonsense here 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Here is a good spin for those with common sense. Should government be subsidising foreign education? The true value of the dollar is not the pegged figure so why should government be subsidising the rich/upper middle class when they are less than 10% of the population 9 Likes 2 Shares |

MKO4ever:So our reserves are good for subsidising pilgrimages and buying exotic cars? Do you use your brains at all or are you politically blinded that you cannot reason well again? fitzmayowa: Buhari has only one child still in school, Zahra (that is if she has not graduated already, as she was said to be in 400 level last year) Do you have any evidence that PMB sourced Zahra's school fees from CBN after dollar restrictions were introduced about 2 months ago ? 4 Likes 1 Share |

maverickdude:The nation is suffering a financial crisis due to a lack of forex; Nigeria is presently suffering from a negative balance of trade with more forex going out than coming in. The CBN and president are struggling to manage this situation by banning all bannable items and subsidising forex for only essentials like fuel, raw materials etc. If only God will open your eyes to see what can happen to a nation if it runs out of forex, you wouldn't be accusing and abusing the CBN and president for trying to rescue your life. WHat are the irrelevant things been subsidised? 4 Likes 2 Shares |
Re: This Is Ben Murray Bruce's Reaction To #forexforeducation by obailala(m): 11:03am On Mar 07, 2016 |
Validated:So what exactly is your point? That because Buhari has his children abroad or he buys his official cars abroad, then the right thing to do is also to extend that privilege to all Nigerians and crash the nation to zilch in seconds? I thought a more worthy argument should have been about the government banning those pilgrimages and purchase of exotic cars instead of calling for the government to subsidise school fees for the rich? 7 Likes |

fitzmayowa:Where is the hypocrisy? Are you disputing the fact that Buhari can afford to buy the £30,000 university of surrey school fees at black market rate, as a former head of state and retired general? |
