I dont think NLNG is averse to criticism. I like to think they welcome it. Unless they are hoping to groom a bunch of yes-men who will keep bobbing their heads like redneck lizards even when the status quo is awry and against their better judgement. The main reason I love this thread is because it comprises different, and often highly opinionated, people whose opinions cut across a wide spectrum. If we all do get in, and I am hoping we all do, NLNG stands to accrue a lot of benefits from that singular characteristic alone. I dont think they will like it if we all turn out to be a bunch of synchronously bleating sheep who lack the grit to demand answers let alone effect an improvement of the system.

Sincerely can’t see the connection. I guess our definition of a “yes-man” differ.
For me a yes-man (otherwise known as a kiss-ass) is motivated by different forms of fear (be it psychological, emotional, social, job security, oracle leaving, even spiritual, etc.) which makes him or her to always supress his intuition and agree on issues even though they are not right or are to his/her detriment.
Almost everyone aspires to make more money I don’t think that makes u a yes-man. Being motivated by money can be a good thing as long as it is healthy. It can make u to continually put in your best and be productive consistently. That’s why companies offer career progression and promotions. Some are motivated by power, positions etc.

You are so wrong my brother. The fact that its only the money that drives u doesn't mean all are in the same boat. Some people earn well already in their current job but what draws them to Nlng may be that they feel unappreciated, or they desire the fresh challenge of the oil and gas industry. For some still they may be running away from a vindictive boss..we all know how many of how naija mgrs can frustrate young talents,for others still they want a good company where they can come back to from the diaspora. Whatever be the driving force, people see Nlng as hope for a better future hence they will wait for as long as they need to until it comes through for them.
The fact that the company pays well is an added advantage to us. If only money drives you then I doubt if you will ever be happy at the job because money I know doesn't ever satisfy. That's why the likes of dangote and bill gates will never rest.

I have a very perfect guess on who the individual is and ayam hardly ever wrong on these things. Sadly, it'll just be a case of "my word against yours", unless until I table supporting evidence and I'm not sure if that would be nice...

All this discourse on the relevance of money or not as a motivator, is supposed to show there are differing valid views on the issue; and these views should be appreciated. This is because we are all different, with different stories and drives.

Money is very important, other factors are more important than money to some. Doesn't mean money isn't still a key factor. We all joined this process to improve our lives.

This whole started with views on the first salary negating the sufferings endured throughout the process. That view is best put as " Your past 3 years can be bought with 3 million naira " . I mean that view is putting a price tag on people, and alot still believe that is not right to put a price as such against their dreams, sufferings and aspirations.

This is a typical problem with generalisations, let's try to put caveats against generalisations. I always wanted to work with the smartest brains in Nigeria, I will be glad to have most here as colleagues.

Ok, i would have compared like for like if the rise of say the software Britannica was responsible for Encarta's discontinuation - it wasn't. Wikipedia's rise made it unprofitable for Encarta to continue in that sphere. Now you claim I said Wikipedia doesn't care abt money, now it seems you're confusing "liking money" with having need for the absolute lifeblood of any non-profit venture which is operating capital, which Wikipedia even solicits for (ever notice the donate button on the site?). Now Wikipedia receives content freely from contributors like linux distros like Kubuntu receive code to improve upon versions of the operating system free from the community which after "curating" will include in subsequent releases if they so wish. Wikipedia operates the same way with their content.
The WikipEdia model clearly disrupted Encarta's model just as Uber's taxi model is causing major disruptions in the traditional cab model (remember the French cabbie protests from last yr?).
Ever seen those highly technical wikis on topics like say engineering or science? You think hippies gave Wikipedia that content? They came from experts in that particular field and were given free for the sake of spreading knowledge and not for money. That's what got Encarta discontinued and that's the point my argument made.

You're are only complicating this arguments without being able to make me reason with you. What are we arguing about? It is the top priority why people seeking employment. That's it. Stick to the scope of the argument. You first deviated by comparing Microsoft and Wikipedia which are not on the same Base on the one hand. And also these are not even individuals seeking employment or individuals that are employed. Now you are going further by comparing uber's taxi model vs traditional taxiing. Now this argument only underscores the importance of INNOVATION in the life of a business that's what I see which again is an analogy that is way way beyond the scope of this argument.

Let us remain within scope shall we. Lemme ask you. Have you ever seen anybody that is grossly dissatisfied with their current jobs, or even being conctantly abused and harrased by their employers but are only hanging on just because of what comes in at the end of every month? I bet you have.

On the other hand, have you ever seen anybody WORKING just for the experience and challenge and job satisfaction without being paid any salary? I bet not. So what are we talking about then?

I am only advocating for practicality and realness here. I am not a recruiter, neither is this an interview situation. I know interviewers hate to hear 'I want to join your company because I will earn more with you guys than I am earning with my present company.' But like I said, I ain't no recruiter.

I know for a fact that anyone that works has as his basic, primary, fundamental reason, earnings. All other reasons, job satisfaction o, challenges o, development of human race o, etc etc only come after.

Sorry bruv I didn't mean to sound rash and my intention is to have a discourse and not attack you personally.

To answer your question I'd personally leave my current place of work to a place that will even pay me 50% less. Yeah u heard me right. That's to help you imagine that what I earn already isn't that bad. That Nlng will give a double of my current earnings is just to me an icing on the cake.
When I signed my offer letter where I'm currently I felt like I was going to be very comfy and happy here cos they offered over 5times what I was earning before. Alas 3years down the line I realized that I was not getting any career fulfillment. I needed a fresh start with a diff company. That was what drove me far in this exercise. I know of a colleague from my current company who applied with me for this GT recruitment but he didn't get beyond the shl stage. This guy was the best graduating student of his set in one of the top universities in the country but yet he didn't get past the shl. I know personally that he didn't make it because he his career was going the way he expected. When he got the regret mail he happily moved on. Whether he enters NLNG or not that guy is already made. Infact with better investment decisions he will be richer than any Nlng employee that squanders his finances. Even if he is not richer he will be financially bouyant and can hold his own even around Nlng big boys. So you see that when you have something better than money driving you definitely you will be more dogged in your pursuit.

When I said as long as they need to I simply mean this. Even you that feel like you so value this Nlng will jump ship if a better offer comes your way. If tomorrow you wake up and find the head HR Saudi Aramco chyking you on LinkedIn with a bloody offer to resume next week I'm sure your next post here will be a bid farewell. Same goes for each and everyone of us. We r doomed to wait for NLNG because none of us have got a better alternative but that's not to say that such opportunities may not come.

My point is we all have our stories which if possible someday we can decide to share here but until you know a persons story you can't tell what his driving force is.
