http://www.strike-the-root.com/3/scarmig/scarmig1.html http://www.parents.com/kids/safety/tips/what-is-child-identity-theft/ Nef and Modath's submissions as per not applying for ssn prompted me to do a little search. Found the links above interesting. Apparently, people can wreck havoc to a child before he/she even reaches age of consent. Pls Nef throw more light on how not to get ssn for ur child. Are there forms or columns in forms which u deliberately don't fill? |

bbaby84: I'm not saying anyone should do it, like I said it's morally wrong and fraudulent but I feel we just go to town with our imagination of the consequences. To each their own Meanwhile, modath / Nef....that una style was super. Good thinking for people that don't want to apply I think there is a column to tick when filling Bc at the hospital if you want it? I guess if you leave it blank nothing will come in the mail 1 Like |

cutelass: I just didnt apply. Where there any forms to be filled? I dunno o! After baby is born, you go to ssn office to get the number, or meet the SSN rep in the hosp. I skipped both. For passport I put zeros, and it was accepted 2 Likes |

Mmmm sigh, na wa o. Pls stand ut ground Pls is there a way to know if someone is using ur child's SSN for tax return. I remember one of my kids own didnt arrive before i returned to Nig, only for my host to bring the envelope open. Hian. Pls is there a way to confirm if it's being used? That is what he plans to do but we said we aren't interested . The man just dey para on the phone for almost 30 minutes say I turned it down. That he discussed with his wife before telling us. The wife was positive I was going to agree but he doubted her. He knew I wouldn't agree with it, why is he now upset? After all, wasn't that his expectation of me? I tire o![/quote] |

I am about to book an appointment for my folks. Will they need to have a reservation from a hotel at their interview? The place of stay on their form is the hospital address. Please advise! Any useful information will be appreciated. |

Hello house, I just got a B1/B2 Visa with my wife. During the interview we were asked if she was pregnant and I said 'No' But I am nursing the intention of giving birth in the States if or when she gets pregnant even though we would still go for vacation first in New York as i told them during the interview. My question now is that if we want to give birth in the States do I have to send an email to the embassy stating my intention or just pay hospital bills and show evidence at Point of Entry? Please advise. Thanks 1 Like |

gravity007: 1. If you already have a B visa, you are advised to write a Notification/Change of Intent email to the embassy(If you declared your intent to give birth in USA during your the visa interview then you don't need to send a letter to the embassy) but if you have withheld this info during the visa interview then letter of intent is not a shortcut. Use these addresses LagosNIV@state.gov and /or Consularabuja@state.gov This correspondence and the reply is carried by the traveler to the point of entry (POE) *For the format of the said letter, kindly use the search button on top or below this page and key in the key words. You will have to search until you see the info which has been posted by several users. 1 Like |

nefertitiram: Nerf I'm confused o. When you're filling the former for BC, the SSN form is also given to you and it usually comes through the mail in a few weeks. You don't have to go to the SSN office for anything o. Did you just decline to sign the SSN form? Anyways, they mailed my daughter's and my nephew sent it to me intact. But I still put zeros on her passport application 1 Like |

hey hun. Someone recently asked me if anyone is claiming taxes for my LO and explained the whole process to me. Basically they claim that the dependent child lives/lived with them and the Govt gives tax refunds for the upkeep of each dependant. They even give tax refunds for things like tithe. It is pretty simple for me. If my LO did not/is not living with you and you were/are not paying for the upkeep of my LO then why should you explore a loop in the system to collect tax refunds for that child? So, I decided to chat with my neighbour (nerf, the one you know...name starts with S) who recently had a baby and returned from the states. She told me that her uncle had been filing and collecting tax refunds for dependants in their family for a long time and then last year, he came to Nigeria after filing and while he was in her house, his wife called and notified him that the IRS was in their house as they had "caught him in the act" he had to buy a one way ticket that day and got a lawyer and eventually was able to pay a huge fine and get no jail time, however he is listed as a tax offender on his record. The United States is a huge country. The IRS cannot cross-check all applications for tax refunds, however they randomnly pick out a select few every year as "quality control" and last year, his was picked. Case of every day for the thief, one day for the owner. Is it Illegal for a person to claim taxes for a child s/he did not care for? YES Do people (Americans, Nigerians, Other nationalities) do it/ YES Do they get away with it? YES, most times Should they do it? NO favoredgal: 10 Likes 1 Share |
