Can A SSCE Holder Go For Programming/hacking? by concord129(m): 9:36am On Mar 08, 2016 |
Hello, pls I need ur advice here, am a SSCE holder can I go for programming/hacking? Although I still have the impression of going to higher institution but as am putting up this article no clue of going back to school in the next two years. And mind you I have learn one computer course and that is computer technician (although in a small workshop and I work for street boys) but I love these three courses- programming, hacking and web design to be part of my life. Am currently in Osun state and I will be glad to have your take on whether I should go on or wait till I have the opportunity of going to school later. But to those who will think my question is worthless, the main reason am asking for this question is that am not good in Mathematics and I heard some people quoting "If you are not good in Maths u can't be good in programming". Your take will highly appreciated. Thanks. Azeez Lateef. |

My take on it is that we are capable of many things as long as we have the belief in ourselves that we can do it. I know you can do it, you just have to believe in yourself more. I recommend that you take the path of doing some online free courses on edx.org, coursera.org, udemy.com, etc. etc. that are related to programming. I would start off with either an introductory course to Java or Python. This should give you a feel of whether or not you enjoy programming. Hacking is something I'm against and whilst I'm very capable of doing it, there is not a malicious bone in my body that could ever think of it. I'll leave that one to you to research. What I think you should get into alternatively is Computer Network Security. There ought to be good videos on that online perhaps even on Youtube. Let me/us know if you have any other questions. Best of luck! 1 Like |

Who told you programming is mathematics? Programming is technical and logical (cracking sense or being smart) not necessarily mathematics. Learning a programming course is also expensive, I personally had to drop out of school because I couldn't pay my fees, I was doing a 3yrs software programming course in port Harcourt, 260,000naira for each year, only in my 1st year I learnt Java, Xql data base, C#, html web designs, net beans ect. I was even far much better than a friend of mine who graduated from University of port Harcourt, which I couldn't meet up for my 2nd year. But the price can be much cheaper depends on the school you go to. 2 Likes 1 Share |

echris246: If you are studying Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, or even Electrical Engineering, math is an integral part (no pun intended) of the coursework. Cheers! |

Fulaman198:I didn't do computer science or computer engineering, I don't know if u have heard of NIIT I did a programming course called Master Mind Series, its a 3yrs course, whichi could only do 1yrs, but within that 1st year we did maths but not the type you should be scared of.. Besides all the programming projects I did like games, calculator, websites ect. none of them required any sort of mathematics, I may be wrong cos I haven't really gone deep. But what I mean is, if I have a software in mind I want to create I don't need to start solving any kind of mathematical equation, what I need is to figure out the model of how I want my software to be like then I will knw how to write my code. |

echris246: Was it N260k per year or for 3 years (i.e N780k). Anyway, even at that consider it cheap. Programming is hard. So even if some1 charges you N1m, be grateful and thank God. Other disciplines charge outrageous amounts yet they're not half as hard as programming. On the other hand, if you were not so cert conscious, you couldve taught yourself, in 3 years upto intermediate levels. At the cost of a laptop, some ebooks and some electricity. 1 Like |

Fulaman198: Bro stop discouraging aspiring programmers. You don't need to be good at maths to be a good programmer. Programming is more involved with Reasoning (Logic), than calculations. |

Brezil: I think he's right Whether you like it or not....there's a difference between. Programmer and a computer scientist who programs. Computer science and applied software engineering are two different things You need to go to school for the former But anyone can be a software engineer once he puts his mind to it |

Wow! I have been waiting for someone to ask this question, thank God someone did. Absolutely yes! Few years back after completing my SSCE, i felt useless because i don't know what to do. Then i started reading all sorts of book and i became a bookworm, during the process just to motivate myself i watch all sorts of documentary about great programmers like Bill Gate, Aaron Swartz and so on. To make this post short, i started learning android programming and few months later, i jumped into Python and C++ programming. Now i can develop a full android app from scratch and even write some useful Python and C++ program. Infact, where i work as an **** i wrote a small program that count characters on PC. However, learning to program requires time, dedication, sleepless nights and being an introvert. Enjoy Programming . If you need any help, my email is michaelgbenga91@gmail.com |

The guys here have answered you well. The only thing I know that can stop you from programming is 1. Lack of dedication. 2. Unavailability of a computer 3. Unavailability of power supply. If you could come to this forumn and post this question with this level of coherence, you can learn the basics. As to programming and mathematics, two different games, man. You would need calculus to write unreal engine. But fortunately for us, you likely wont be writing unreal engine for a looooong time. And you can make a lot of impact in programming without having to write unreal engine. |
