Henry240:I said it before that Nigerian won't allow any nation's troops on it soil to fight boko haram. The time it would have been possible is long gone when the crisis was a very serious issue, not now that It about to end. The worst is to train troops just like the US and UK troops in Nigeria currently. You will hardly hear of them when they come. |

croat: People are fascinated by the bullpup design not knowing how under powered the 5.56 mm cartridge is! In fact US specops operating in Afpak are known to ditch their M4s for 7.62 mm Paki army G3s. |

iblawi: I decided to stay away from this topic because i didn't want the toxic venom brewing underneath to escalate and ruin this thread. Any Nigerian leader who accepts foreign boots on the ground, not part of the MNJTF would face impeachment proceedings. However, i see nothing wrong with a mutually beneficial relationship between the SANDF and the Nigerian military. It should start with port to port visits, joint naval drills and joint boarding ops. 2 Likes |

kikuyu1: M4 isn't a bullpup, a bullpup design benefits are that you have full lenght barrel for 5.56x45 mm NATO and better control in full auto. For example, VHS-2 which is produced in Croatia and used by Croatian armed forces and is in final competition for primary french assault rifle. kikuyu1:Brethren it's about choice, 5.56 is just as effective as 7.62 as long as you are shooting human targets. Tavors can also fire a 300blk. |

croat:why are you trying to go off topic ! the discussion was about the lethality and effectiveness of a 556 vs 7.62 ,nowhere did i read him claiming a M-4 is a bullpup |

africaken254:The 7. 72 will always be better. But the smaller 5.56 means soldiers can carry more ammo and other equipment. |

africaken254: 7.62mm is better, however for Navy 5.56 is preferable. |

MikeCZAR:the russians even favored an even smaller round,5.45×39 mm .7.62 is good for sniping but for close quarter combat i would prefer 5.56 |

Ghana has 24 units of Chinese WZ-523/type-05 IFV with 25mm cannon plus their 50 units of Typhoon MRAP. Wonder why the WZ 25mm gun looks like a Bushmaster instead of Type 87 looks. Can the Ghanaian guys explain their confusing IFV gun? Also, are these women combatants? Why are they in black not army green?

zuluoscar1: He made a legitimate assessment. The 7.62 is a more powerful round than the 5.56, and i can say that all Nigerian soldiers fielding the Tavor, would love to keep it but wish they came in chambered in 7.62. |

On the recent controversy, here is the Nigerian position. We seen the position of South-Africa, here's the official position of Nigeria, directly from the Defence minister's spokesman. Defense Cooperation: 'Nigeria Is Not Asking South African Forces To Help Fight Boko Haram - Defence Minister The Minister of Defence, Mansur Mohammed Dan-Ali, had yesterday faulted a newspaper report quoting him that South African Special Forces would come in to help the country in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents. This denial was made even as the President of the Republic of South Africa, Jacob Zuma was on an official visit to Nigeria. Prior to Zuma's visit, the officials of the Nigerian Defence ministry and that of SA had met in separate meetings in the two countries to fashion out how they could fashion out mutual military technological and personnel training exchange. The meeting culminated in the signing of MoU on Defence Cooperation which will include the training of special forces to combat internal strifes like terrorism. But it did not state that such forces would be deployed into either countries to help in fighting any form of conflict. It was to this misrepresentation of fact in the media that the Nigerian Ministry of Defence is putting up a clarification to correct the misconception generated by the report about the Nigeria-SA Defence cooperation . An elaborate statement was issued by the office of the minister to that effect: "The attention of the Office of the Minister of Defence has been drawn to a misleading newspaper publication (carried in Punch Newspaper of March 8th, 2016) quoting the honourable minister, Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali, that the South African Forces would help Nigeria in the fight Boko Haram", the statement issued by the minister's spokesman, Col. Tukur Gusau reads. "That report was totally misleading and false. "Wondering where the Punch NewsPaper reporter may have sourced such unpatriotic and misleading report, the Ministry of Defence wants to unequivocally state that there was never a time that the minister of Defence had made such statement or alluded to it. "It is a fact that on Monday, March 7, 2016, the Honourable Minister and other top service chiefs had hosted his visiting counterpart, the Republic of South Africa's Minister of Defence, Ms.Nobise Mapisa-Nqakula, and her delegation of military officials at the Defence Headquarters where they discussed bilateral security issues that would be of benefit to the two African nations. "It would be recalled that the Honourable Minister and his team were in South Africa recently where the two country launched a partnership initiative that led to the signing of MoU on Defence Cooperation by the defence chiefs of the two countries. "The visit of Ms Mapisa-Nqakula to Nigeria was a return visit, and a prelude to what President Muhammadu Buhari would discuss with the visiting President South African President, Jacob Zuma in respect of that MoU. "And during the Monday meeting at the Ship House Defence Headquarters, Abuja, two major issues bothering on transfer of skills, technology processing and development. "There was never a time during and after the meeting at the Ship House that the issue of Special Forces as mentioned in the PUNCH Newspaper of March 8,2016 edition, was mentioned in the tune with what that publication inferred. Stillchris, Iblwai, Patches689 2 Likes |

@ViceAdmiral The Military is building a Marine corps base on Impalila island to function as a launch point for Helicopter/Boat/foot patrols along the Okavango river and as a training in Jungle warfare...not sure when it's going to be operational Also,I think a strong military presence is required over there because of our not so friendly neighbor Picture curtesy of Nigerian Military couples I'm especially fond of this image 2 Likes
