This takes us back to the question: WHY KADUNA?

Oliseh wanted Port-Harcourt but that created a rift between him and the NFF board.
Port-Harcourt is a cooler city and most of our foreign based players can easily adjust.

The Egyptians are coming with 80% locally based players. Egypt is within the hot Arid region. I hope taking them to a hot city like Kaduna would not bring out the best in them.

You remember why we could not qualify for the 2006 world Cup? Nig 1-1 Angola; venue: Sani Abacha stadium Kano. The players after the game complained of immense hot and humid weather.
Most of the Angolan players were locally based. There is a current called "the benguela current" that blows along the coast of Angola. It is a cool current that is responsible for the Aridity(dry weather) being experienced in the most part of Angola. The NFA took the game to Kano that has arid weather conditions. Most of our players played in Europe under a different weather condition. Most of the Angolan players played in Angola that predominantly experiences that arid weather condition. And you know the result as the rest is history.
Nigeria finished on 20pts same with Angola. We even had a superior goals difference bt head to head counted against us. We lost 1-0 in Luanda and then that silly 1-1 draw in Kano.

I DON'T LIKE KADUNA AS THE VENUE FOR THAT GAME.

I believe it was a stunt to sabotage Coach Oliseh. I for one do not understand the logic.

The Governor of Rivers State, Wike does a fine job with the Welfare of players and Cash Motivation. The Port-Harcourt sports facility is top standard. The footballers are familiar with the services of Presidential Hotel.

The climate of Port-Harcourt favors our foreign pros.

The Coach then, Oliseh wanted Port-Harcourt.

I can only think of Sabotage for the reason because Climate wise, Kaduna favors Egypt more than us.

hmmm the only reason i can suggest maybe the kaduna governtment offered to foot the bill for the match. you know the nff and claims of no money. in all honesty i don't expect any excuse about weather because these are trained professionals who are trained to cope in most weather conditions but i agree PH would have been better

I bet, Governor Wike is ever ready to foot the bills. I do not think that can be the reason to move the team to an unfavorable ground against the Coach's wishes.

Yes they are professionals but the NFF must use every advantage it can get. Creating a disadvantage for the team is mind boggling

Last year I was on one of our field locations and was watching one of our earlier qualifying matches. I think the Chad game. It was played in Kaduna. Though there was a TV in my office and personal room but I preferred watching in the general room with the other workers. Earlier before that game we watched a match involving I think Zambia or Uganda or so. We enjoyed the game as the stadium had a quality pitch. When It was time for the Nigeria game, everything changed. The stadium looked like below standard, the pitch was an embarrassment for a great country like Nigeria.
There was a Northerner by my side and he was also watching the game. (Without any ethnic sentiments) I asked why this Kaduna stadium of all places, National stadium Abuja is there, the Nest of Champions Uyo is there and the New Port Harcourt stadium all of which have natural grasses. Like-Play, like-play, this man saw it as an attack on the North o. If no be say I be him oga him for slap me sef. He even went as far as telling me we people from the South especially the SE don't always say anything good about the North.

I was like shocked
For football matter again. I just concentrated on my match and ignored him.

What I am pointing out here is the choice of Kaduna is most likely to be politically generated. A certain section of the country also want a fair share of the games even though the weather and other conditions are nt favorable to our foreign players.

That makes a lot of sense. However, I think a crucial game like this needs the best place. We do not attach sentiments in this kind of situation. Wish the lads the best.

I saw no reason Why Balogun was left out in the first place. After-all players like Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses didn't grow up playing football in Nigeria and they are in the team.
By not inviting Balogun for the Egypt clash would he also not have invited him for the World Cup qualifiers? If the weather was truly an issue this is even the best time to invite him so he can quickly acclimatize with the weather before the more important World Cup qualifiers kick-off.

Imagine initially selecting Chibuzor Okonkwo ahead of Leon Balogun.
Make Coach Siasia stand well first...

When it comes to Super Eagles, the Port-Harcourt crowd always come out in mass. That is one of the reasons why our players and coaches prefer there.

I remember during Nigeria '99 where the Northern stadiums were empty despite the government paying for tickets for them.

Port-Harcourt had full stadium with a large crowd outside protesting for tickets.

The Northern teams got more matches while I think Port-Harcourt games ended in the second round. Even Sepp Blatter blasted the LOC for their stadium choices.

Chinese interest sees Mikel put Chelsea talks on ice

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi

by Graeme Jackson

Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel has reportedly placed his contract talks with Chelsea on hold, as he waits to learn more in regards to lucrative offers from China.

The 28-year-old’s contract with the Blues expires in mid-2017, but he has an offer on the table for an extension with the Premier League club.

According to his agent, John Shittu, the Super Eagles player is not prepared to commit to Chelsea just yet and will wait for more details about big-money offers from clubs in China. Mikel has been on Chelsea’s books since 2006.

"Chelsea have approached him for an extension of his contract but he said after the season he'll decide," Shittu told website AllNigeriaSoccer.com.

"He has so many teams interested in him, almost three clubs in China want him."

Osadiaye (right) scored for Nigeria U23s against Super Eagles on Wednesday

by Samm Audu

Nigeria caretaker coach Samson Siasia has expressed displeasure with the home-based Super Eagles loss to the country’s Olympic team in a training game on Wednesday.

The Nigeria U23s avenged a 2-0 defeat they suffered on Tuesday with goals from Joseph Osadiaye and Usman Mohammed.

Eagles stop U23s 2-0

“The coach was not happy with the result and he told us we did not play according to instructions,” disclosed Bright Onyedikachi, who scored one of the goals for the Eagles in the first training game on Tuesday.

“We still can’t understand what happened to us, it was like a dream.”

U23 defender Erhun Obanor said it is now all-square between the two teams.

“They beat us on Tuesday and we won on Wednesday. It’s 50-50 now,” said the big defender.

“We will have a final replay on Thursday before we leave to play for our various league clubs,” said Eagles defender Chibuzor Okonkwo.

The home-based Eagles are building up for AFCON qualifiers against Egypt, while the Olympic team will face Brazil in a friendly, all to be played later this month.

Echiejile Warns Eagles Teammates: “Egypt’ll Be Huge challenge”

By Johnny Edward:

AS Monaco defender, Elderson Echiejile, is under no illusions about the task of facing the Pharaohs of Egypt later this month in their two-legged 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers in Kaduna and Alexanderia, branding it "a huge challenge".

The 28 year old is the only surviving player of the 2010 squad that beat the Harambee Stars of Kenya 3-2 at the Kasarani stadium to pick the sole ticket for the World Cup in South Africa having trailed Tunisia in the group. A feat the former Stade Rennes and SC Braga star believes could also serve as a motivation against the Hector Cuper side who he says are beatable.

"We have had big one-off games in the past and responded well. I believe we can do that again on this month in Kaduna and inAlexandria against Egypt, Echiejile told Completesportsnigeria.com.‎

"We have to be on our game to s and I have confidence in the players to do it."

"Credit to Egypt, but we can beat them if we are on our game.We know that, and we just have to get our heads down for the game.

The Monaco defender also warns that the new look Samson Siasia's side cannot afford to repeat their insipid showing in recent games against a technically gifted Egyptian side.

"They are very technically intelligent. The Egyptian teams I have played against all seemed to have that individually.

"They have great players up front – I've watched them a few times. Mohammed Salah's form is amazing – his all-round game and‎ his finishing. And the other players we all know about anyway.

"In Elneny and Moteb, they have two fantastic midfield players. I can't speak highly enough of them actually. Elneny has come on and really impressed at Arsenal in the few games he has played. It's going to be a battle ground because they are very strong in there."

Moses Set For West Ham Return Against Manchester United

By James Agberebi:

Victor Moses could make his return from injury in West Ham's FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.‎

Issuing his weekly update on the club's official website, Head of Medical and Sports Science Stijn Vandenbroucke, said Moses, along with Enner Valencia and Joey O'Brien, have all returned to training ahead of Sunday's clash with Manchester United.

He also gave information about the fitness of Winston Reid and James Collins.

“Enner Valencia, Victor Moses and Joey O’Brien all re-joined training earlier this week after recovering from a right high ankle sprain, a quadriceps injury and hamstring problem respectively.

“Winston Reid is going to join training on Friday. James Tomkins is in the final stage of his rehabilitation after recovering from the calf injury he suffered at Southampton on 6 February, and he will start training again next week.”

It would be recalled that Moses and Emmanuel Emenike were on target in West Ham's 5-1 win against Blackburn in the 5th Reound of the FA Cup.

Why Nigeria CAN Reach The 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations

In 2017, the 60th anniversary of the Africa Cup of Nations will take place and Nigeria may well be the side to watch throughout the tournament. In recent years, Nigeria have struggled to assert themselves as a dominant African force but they may be on the verge of a return to the big stage.

A decade or so ago, Nigeria were arguably the driving force of African football. With the likes of Joseph Yobo, Jon Obi Mikel, Ayegbeni Yakubu and Nwankwo Kanu in the side, Nigerian boasted a star-studded line-up filled with Premier League talent. Nowadays, they struggle to select even one footballer from England’s top flight, however that doesn’t mean they’re a bad side.

Nigeria’s main troubles started after their disappointing performance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They lost head coach Stephen Keshi and are currently led by interim boss Samson Siasia. The Super Eagles are struggling to inspire confidence right now but who knows, they may be able to turn their fortunes around in the next twelve months.

If truth be told, they’ve been on a downward slope for quite some time. Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 but that was their last real success. In fact, they didn’t even qualify for the 2015 edition, which tells you a lot about the current state of Nigerian football.

However, Nigeria’s prestige suggests they will bounce back and be a real force once again. In the next year or so, Bookies.com can keep you updated on the latest news regarding the tournament and other international football and punters can exploit their free bets offers and place a bet on the competition.

In their qualifying fixtures, Nigeria are unbeaten and haven’t conceded a goal. However, they have to face Group G leaders twice in the space of four days at the end of March and back-to-back defeats would be catastrophic to their hopes of qualifying for next summer’s competition in Gabon.

As we verge closer to March 25th, punters will be able to find odds and betting news regarding the Egypt double header. In the meantime, it might be wise to visit Bookies.com and compare free bets side by side in order to get the best promotional offers. In what is a must-win game for the Super Eagles, punters might prefer to use free bets rather than actual money in this particular encounter.

If Nigeria defeat Egypt, their Africa Cup of Nations destiny will be in their own hands. Anything less and they may have to rely on other results to ensure qualification for next summer’s tournament. Nigeria are struggling right now but they have the experience, talent and leadership to turn things around and, with a bit of luck, it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see them feature in Gabon.

Siasia: Nigeria cannot be afraid of Egypt
By Ahmed Wagih

Nigeria national team manager Samson Siasia stressed that the Egyptian team should be afraid ahead of their AFCON qualifiers’ encounter later in the ongoing month of March.

Siasia had previously said that he aims to get all the six points from Egypt in their two-legged clash in the qualifiers, and now warns his players that they cannot be afraid of Egypt.

“We are preparing very well [for the game against Egypt], some of the players have just arrived,” Siasia told TheNFF.com

“Nigeria is not afraid. Nigeria cannot be afraid of Egypt, we are playing in home what can we be afraid of? Not even away, even in the away game we cannot be afraid. We know they are a good team and we have to be very ready. We just have to continue like that until the foreign-based players come. I told the foreign-based players that everybody can play,”

“We don’t have to be Bayern or anything, we want players who will go out there and give 120 percent on that day. We are not messing around, this is a very difficult game we are going to play. I don’t want to punish anyone, I want guys who go out there and play for us with a serious mind and achieve what we are here for. Me under pressure? I have never been under pressure before, why now?” he concluded.

It is worth noting that the 48-year-old coach has taken a disciplinary action against three of his squad players after arriving late in training without a permission by excluding them from the list for the Egypt games.

I remember being asked on this thread (or possibly the U-23 thread) this question: "Is the Home-based U-23 Olympic Eagles stronger than the Home-based Super Eagles?"

This was asked after I correctly predicted that indeed Ifeanyi Matthew will make the CHAN Squad after failing to break into the U-23 Afcon squad.

My point was clear: If Ifeanyi couldn't make the U-23 Afcon squad but was always sure to make the CHAN (which he did) then that shows us something about the strength of both sides "home-based-wise"

So Siasia, why so displeased? You don't know your U-23 home-based side is stronger? #BigSmiles

Onyedikachi said it's a "dream". SHOW SOME RESPECT DUDE!!! THAT U-23 TEAM ARE AFRICAN CHAMPS!!!!!

Yes, the first game was 2-0 to the Senior Home Eagles but the U-23 Home Eagles got their own back in the second game via same scoreline.

If that 3rd game will indeed hold, I still don't expect the U-23 Home Eagles to just roll over. They're really good even in the absence of some other players.

So Siasia, just know that I'm still watching. Nigerians are "watching".

Like I said earlier, the list is a mix of the Super brilliant players, the washed-up and the average.

We just need to be @ Gabon 2017. Pls, make that happen. That's all.

Nigeria and Zamalek player Moruf Yusuf has stressed the importance of Mohamed Elneny and Mohamed Salah to Egypt, ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

The 23-year-old has sent a warning to his national team about the havoc the two players can wreak against the Super Eagles, ahead of the two countries’ upcoming 2017 African Cup of Nations qualification clashes.

In an exclusive interview with allnigeriasoccer.com, Moruf said, “Nigeria have to prepare well for the game against Egypt because they are coming with full force.”

He also advised Siasia and his staff to focus on using quick a full back to quell the danger of Roma’s Mohamed Salah.

“Nigeria have to have a good right-back; I think they have good wingers [Salah].”

He also added, “Mohamed Elneny is a very good midfielder, he operates everywhere in midfield and he has strengths.”

Yusuf has had plenty of exposure to both Nigerian and Egyptian football, having plied his trade in both countries. He played for Kwara United in the latter’s league, before trekking to El Shorta in the Egyptian Premier League, and finally Zamalek.

West Ham star refuses to come out of retirement for Nigeria national team
Posted by Eren Sarigul

Nigeria national team manager Samson Siasia has admitted that attempts to convince Emmanuel Emenike to come out of international retirement have failed.

Emenike retired from international football last October after falling out with Nigeria’s former manager Sunday Oliseh.

“You can’t force them to rescind their decision and we have to respect that.” Siasia told BBC Sport.

“I felt they left under a cloudy circumstance. It was only an opportunity for them to reconsider their stance but it appears they’ve both decided to stick by their retirement.”

West Ham have won both games which Emenike starting in. The Nigerian international joined on a six-month move last month from Fenerbahce.

The Hammers have now gone 13 games unbeaten at home this season and their win win over Evertons saw them move into 5th place just one point behind Manchester City who also won.

West Ham take on Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.

Nigeria: How Eagles Can Beat Pharaohs in Kaduna - Adepoju

By Alex Monye

Former Super Eagles player, Mutiu Adepoju, has advised interim coach, Samson Siasia and his assistants to put sentiments aside while selecting players for the doubleheader 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

"We need players who can over run the Egyptians on the pitch," Adepoju told The Guardian. "The first leg of the game in Kaduna is very crucial. I know that Nigeria has the players that can do the job, but my advise is that only the best should be selected," he said.

Adepoju who is also a member of the NFF technical committee, stated that beating the Egyptians with plenty goals in the first leg would dampen the morale of the North Africans.

"That will also boost the confidence of the Super Eagles going for the second leg in Alexandra, Egypt," he added.

According to him, the Pharaohs is a highly technical side and usually played with determination whenever they are chasing tickets for major competitions.

"The Egyptians always deploy all sorts of antics whenever they are on the pitch. They don't have respect for anybody whether they are playing at home or away.

I am sure they will be coming to Kaduna to play their usual antics and our coaches and players must be very careful with them," he said.
