President Muhammadu Buhari has thrown his weight behind the people of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, SADR, otherwise called Western Sahara, stating that Nigeria would ensure the realization of their self-determination and independence.

Lmao @BooHarry. This man doesn't even understands diplomacy and this utterance alone can strain whatever relationship naij has with Morocco. And I won't be surprised if they decide to summon the Nigerian ambassador in Morocco.

You're dealing with Biafra at home and it's better to stay neutral, and covertly support the position of the AU. The AU recognises Western Sahara and you can always reference that, rather than open ya mouth and put naij in diplomatic squabbles with Morocco. I hope this doesn't turn into something similar to Morocco vs. Sweden diplomatic row.

This is the holygrail for Biafra. They can always count on a friend in Morocco for support. wink

Hmmm......

The Western Sahara issue is not like the Biafra issue for these reasons

1.Western Sahara was a colony of Spain (was called Spanish Morocco)....while Morocco proper was a colony of France.

2. Morocco got independence from France in the 1960's. Western Sahara did not get independence till 1975.

3.When Spain quit Western Sahara.....Morocco and Mauritania marched in and split the country between themselves.

4.Eventually, Mauritania left its half of Western Sahara....which was taken over by Morocco eventually.

5.The OAU (Now AU) Strongly censured Morocco for its activity....and as a result....Morocco pulled out of the then OAU in 1975. Since then, they have stayed out.

6.Since the 1970's,Nigeria has always backed the Western Sahara.....in line with OAU/AU mandates. So..Buhari is just continuing an old policy...which is backed by all other African states.

Sorry, but this ain't Biafra in the desert....

Thanks for the clarification else.... lipsrsealed

Atimes when our leaders make decision, one will begin to wonder why can't we allow a 10yrs old rule this country?

The clueless one (GEJ) ruled for 6yrs, yet he pushed the nation backward.

We have prof bubu taking 9ja back to stone age.

Which way 9ja, which way

But remember that biafra has the backing of UNITED NATIONS. Because when Nigeria was being amalgamated in 1914, there was a provision that any of the amalgamating unit can re consider being part of the entity called Nigeria after 100 years. This 2016

When I say we are being ruled by a Certificate less Dullardpo Dundee President Buhari one of Daura, some people will get angry. How can you be against the right of the Igbo for self determination and still go ahead to support Western Sahara's bid for a similar thing? Only a useless herdsman with a NEPA bill qualification will do that.

Shut up

Buhari is a hypocrite.

You can't clamp down on peaceful Biafrans while championing Islamic separatists.

1.The Western Sahara struggle has been largely secular.

2.As regards Biafra....the OAU has always had a policy of respecting the original borders of all African colonies turned countries. Yes...South Sudan happened....but that was the result of a ten year process of negotiation that was conducted partially under UN auspices., and even then people like the late John Garang always wanted a united Sudan.(secular run).

3.Buhari here is merely backing long established AU policy of backing the Western Sahara (which has been in place since the 1970's).

4.Western Sahara was ''a separate colony'' that on independence was invaded by another country....and occupied. (A good analogy would be Nigeria invading Benin Republic and taking it over.). Biafra was never run as a separate colony.

5.If Buhari is a hypocrite...then GEJ too was a hypocrite...because he never ever repudiated Nigeria's policy of supporting Western Sahara.(And if he had...that would have isolated him from the rest of the AU).

6.On a more interesting note...Morocco has some precedent....in the 1960's India invaded the Portuguese colony of Goa and took it over. Most of the people were happy with that.

On the other side of the coin.....Indonesia took over the Portuguese colony of East Timor in 1975....and that sparked off a rebellion that ended with Timorese independence in 1998.

There is no such provision. It is a myth.

If there was...it would be in the Constitution by now.

I have a question for the Biafra agitators, Assuming Biafra is actualized, do you plan to move back east to Biafra to reside and earn your living there, developing your country, especially those currently in Lagos and Abuja? If so, why aren't you there now developing your region? Do you need to be independent to develop your region? If not, how do you justify calling Nigeria a zoo, getting your independence but still wanting to live and earn your living in the so called zoo?

While I do not support Biafran agitation....for reasons that I would explain soon....I don't think that Biafran agitators are bad people. They are angry that after 40 years...no one has done much to heal their wounds. War leaves lasting wounds.

Having said that...my reasons for not supporting Biafran agitation have a lot to do with the fact that your average Biafranist has nothing to say about corruption, bad governance, and poor leadership in the region. His answer to that is to blame the Hausa...even when the thief is from his village.

And to be honest...that is how many Nigerians ,Hausas inclusive behave. Blame everyone but themselves.
