you've got your timeline mixed up, maria run of form pass that Leicester city game I remember he was big for us against everton where falcao also scored.

1. He played from the right side. He is more effective on the right side of the wing than on the left where Gaal mostly used him. When he delivered a good pass for Rooney to score against Arsenal, he was on the right. Also that was his better wing for Madrid.

2. He had freedom to roam. Unlike under Gaal, Di Maria had the whole forward to explore. He could go to the middle, right or left. When he delivered an Assist to Ibrahimovic, he was on the left side.

3. The team is built to cover up his carelessness. That's what a good coach to to his star players. He keeps losing possession at PSG but it's not so obvious mostly because he is expected to have the midfielders working and cleaning up behind him.

4. He is not prematurely substituted because Blanc knows he could eventually produce a moment of magic even when having an average game.
