I always knew grin, named after Isaac Pondoleni Shikongo,he's a marine Officer as well...that's why you'll always read of serving members complaining that only connected individuals are being promoted..

Speaking of which the lady colonel in the pic shares her last name with the CDF wink

bro, to be honest, if i were a moderator i go don ban you since.

i like this thread a lot and some of your post are quite provocative enough to start some baseless arguments that can ruin this thread. i love my country and all but sometimes we just have to be civil especially in a place that requires it.

i think south africa pulling out of darfur is none our business as they have their reasons.

same way we had ours when we pulled out major combat troops from mali before elections and we also defended had our reasons for pulling out some troops from same darfur and we happily defended the decisions on this forum.

my point is that there are some arguments you just don't get into if this thread is to be kept clean.

no harm in correcting a foreigner's info about your military when wrong should only be allowed. (i got my eye on you @patches cool)

abeg bro. make we try abide by the rules.

It burgles the mind, i don't see how the SANDF pulling out of Darfur is Nigeria's business. We can discuss the reason why, but that's that.

It took Nigeria contemplating over 1 year to deploy to Mali, when the French deployed, our politicians began acting all serious and forming activity.

Nigeria only has a few military advisors/Trainers in Mali, there are no combat troops or heavy equipment there. We only have Policemen in active duty in Mali, and that's it.

Every country has challenges not just the Nigerian military or SANDF.

Its fekking expensive

Note that it has an APS

Also, a 120mm doesnt fit our doctrine. Rooikat is primarily a recon platform.

Tank hunting is left to missile armed IFV's

I think BH exposed a lot of weaknesses in our military (thanks to OBJ's policy of downsizing and degrading the military due to washington's advise), and the military was cautious not to commit to such an offensive operation we clearly lacked the capabilities to execute at that time.

At first it was easy chasing out boko haram when they lacked conventional capabilities. A kind of war we were to engage in Mali at that time.

I think too much engagement in "peacekeeping missions" also added to our weakness.

Thank God we are gradually getting it right again.
We just need to lay our hands on some mad platforms if we are to prepare for ISIS. I believe Nigeria is in their sight and I don't trust our dull politicians to pay attention.

OBJ and Theophilus Danjuma (COAS, later Defence minister) almost killed our military.

The advice they got from the Americans and Europeans, that pruning and downsizing the Nigerian military makes it more effective proved to be monumentally false and a stup1d move.

There's a direct correlation between having a small, peacekeeping style military and insecurity. They are like the ying and yang, Inseparable!

The tactics BH employed were also entirely new, that was another source of frustration in the beginning. We couldn't just deploy "scorched earth tactics" or shell civilian areas. We also didn't even know the enemy. He was everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

We've now gotten a hang on, and the results continue to improve. However, BH is a long term fight. We cannot defeat an ideology, we can only contain it. There are many factors which make defeating BH impossible, some of the factors are completely beyond our control.

My personal satisfaction would be the day we are able to deploy 70% local land systems. APCs, IFVs, HMGs,n surveillance equipment et al.

ISIS..... Is nothing. BH has committed more atrocities in the last 12 months in Nigeria, than has ISIS in Syria. There's nothing ISIS would throw we haven't seen before. What we need is to improve upon the gains we've been recording, purchase proper assets, especially long range bombers, continue with a flexible training regime. Dominate the grounds.

I agree with you and then some. However, we should also consider CBRN and NBC capability, enough to at least contain a minor nuclear disaster with all the whispers of ISIS possibly having access to nuclear material.
