True that, this is why l dont trust anybody in Nigeria, it is better to be on ground to see the construction of your projects, be in tune with the family that sold land to you and just make sure you do due diligence all the time as much as you can, the poverty level in Nigeria has made some people to be the devils advocate, l feel for the woman sad

My instinct tells me that this great woman will get justice very soon.

Op, that woman story is even a tip of the iceberg of what some people abroad have encountered in trying to invest back home. My uncle is a travel agent. I've overheard his conversations with most of his clients where they narrate their ordeals in trying to invest back home and also telling him, they've got nothing to do with Nigeria anymore.

My brothers and sisters. Nigeria still has a long way to go!

Very sad story. I personally know a woman facing same issue too. She is still a nurse in US. She decided to invest in Nigeria. She was sending money home to her own blood, her nephew to help her buy the land, construct and build a befitting edifice. For those of us abroad we understand better what it means to work, pay taxes, and all the bills and then have a little left to save. To save money here is not so easy. Yet she saved for years and sent this money home. Her nephew with the naija mentality that everyone abroad is swimming in money swindeled this lady. I mean her hard earned money of many years all gone!
The guy used the money and built a place for himself with her money. After spending many years abroad she decided to inspect her building because based on her calculation the building ought to be finished. Lo and behold this guy not only barred her from entering, he fixed all documents of the house in his own name. I mean from the land, to all reciepts of building materials used were in his name. Frustrated she dragged him to court. This case has been in court for many years. Each time there is a court case this poor lady leaves America, pays her flight ticket plus other expenses. Sometimes she needs to appear several times a year. Just imagine the waste of money. There is still no headway till now. Our judiciary system of court adjournments makes things even worse. But the frightening part is her nephew stood on the podium looked her in the eye and said she never sent him any money

Advise her to execute a Power of Attorney in favor of someone in Nigeria to prosecute the action on her behalf. This will mitigate her expenses and costs of traveling every time to Nigeria.

I will not insult you, but I'm actually referring to the park she works. Half of the men there are semi illiterates who have never traveled out of Nigeria
And here comes a WOMAN, who has lived and worked abroad for a long time and to top it up she is ibo
Like I said my Mom owns properties, and we live in a predominantly Yoruba Street where she is the only landlady with a storey the other landlady the house was an inheritance.
I've witnessed the cold shoulder we've received time and again most especially from women like her though, now it is a bit better.

Some people eehn. Over wickedness go kill them.

However, i think she could have contributed to the court transferring her property in her absence.

Some Nigerians living abroad feel the system in their countries of residence are the same with Nigeria.

They may have summoned her and she will dismiss it and say they can't do anything.

Now they have. But I believe there is more to her story than she let out.

I pray she gets back everything.

I pray she gets justice in the end.

I pray it comes in her lifetime.

Exactly!!! Their victim mentality is sickening. My mom's two plots of land, in two different locations in Lagos were sold to other people by the same people that sold it to her. We wanted to fight it, but when we saw how bloody those guys can go, we let it go. Omo onile in Lagos are ruthless...it doesn't matter what part of Nigeria you are from, most of them will still cheat you...so the OP needs to not make this a tribal hate thing.

I'm not insulting you,but enough of this yoruba vs igbo ish.
Any small thing, that hapuns, most igbos claim they are been harassed by the yorubas.
If u claim to be harassed by yorubas,y don't u leave and go to where u will be accepted peacefully.

oga, take it easy abeg. Seems u dont know whats happening in the country. Whats happening is that, if u've money. U can win anycase. In as much as its not a murder case. Oga, see i know one chairman of omooniles. All my life, he's never losed a case. He grabs people lands, take them to court, use his financial and connection influence on the case, there u've it. He wins the case. Not until when his boys killed a man on his land when they're dragging an issue. His case was taken to the federal court, he went to jail. Now, he's back. If he sees that the land he wants to grab isnt gonna be easy. He leaves it cos he has been warned, if he's any murder case again. Its life imprisonment. Oga, things are happening.

U said, a court delivered a case in her absence. Am a yoruba boy and i'll tell u what people who've case in the court do. Most especially these omo onile's. They consult their herbalist that something bad should hinder u from appearing in court. The second time, u didnt appear. The third time, u didnt appear. The court verdict will definitely be in favour of ur counterpart who's presence. U can meet a lawyer to confirm.

If they asked you to choose between 400k and your life, which would you choose? Ofcos your life. This people will attack you spiritually, physically, mentally...etc. Of cos she had a receipt, and I even remember the spot, cos I drove her to the place in Ijegun (and the other one in Sango) a couple of times, but as I said, peace of mind is better than any amount of money.
