Scully85 Ya timeline is wrong. Oyo didn't start in the 9th century - it started in the 15th century. And the first Awujale was neither appointed by Oyo nor did it start in the 17th century. There was an Awujale and Ijebu kingdom before there was Oyo and there had been an Awujale from way back in the 14th century according to early European explorers. |

SirShymexx: According to Radiocarbon dating, the Oranmiyan staff in Ile Ife dates much older than the time Oranmiyan is purported to have lived. I think there is so much History in Yorubaland prior to the dynasty of Oduduwa that is yet to be explored. |

scholes0: I can't post in this section - my handle is under a ban. Back to topic: The Oranmiyan staff most likely preceded Oranmiyan and was probably named after him. It's an obelisk and it might be what connects Yoruba people to other ancient civilisation from the East. That said, you can't really make an argument that Oyo preceded Ijebu Kingdom and the first Awujale was appointed by Oyo, when Oyo is on its 47th Alaafin, while Ijebu is on its 58th Awujale. This is the list of all the Awujales: PAST AND PRESENT AWUJALES 1. Olu-Iwa 2. Oshi 3. Obanta 4. Monigbuwa 5. Oba-Guru 6. Oba-Loja 7. Oba-Lofin 8. Oba-Apasa 9. Oba-Ofinran 10. Obaruwa 11. Obangaju 12. Tolumogboye 13. Lapengbuwa 14. Otutubiosun 15. Ajuwakale 16. Adisa 17. Jewo 18. Elewu-Ileke 19. Ajana 20. Olotunoyese 21. Olumodan 22. Mase 23. Ore-yeye (Female) 24. Agunwaja 25. Jadiara 26. Asapo-Okun 27. Afolajoye 28. Omila 29. Mekun 30. Gbogidi 31. Ore-geje (Female) 32. Oluyoruwa 33. Muwagona 34. Olope 35. Ayora 36. Fesojaiye 37, Rubakoye (Female) 38. Sapennuwa 39. Oniyewe 40. Boyejo 41. Moyegeso 42. Orodudu-joye 43. Atewogbuwa 44. Gbelegbuwa - 1760 45. Fusengbuwa - 1790 46. Setejoye - 1819 47. Figbajoye Anikilaya - 1820 48. Ademuyewo Fidipote - 1852 49. Adesimbo Tunwase 1886 50. Adeleke Ogbagba I - 1895 51. Adeona Fusigboye - 1906 '52. Ademolu Fesogbade - 1915 53. Adekoya Eleruja - 1916 *54. Ademotu Fesogbade - 1917 55. Adenuga Folagbade - 1925 56.. Ogunnaike Fibiwoga 1929 57. Dan. Adesanya Gbelegbuwa II - 1933-1959 58. Sikiru Adetona Ogbagba II - 1960 When you look at the timeline, it corresponds with Ijebu history and there are no spaces. However, with the list Scully85 provided, you can see gaps there. Also, both Sango and Ajaka ruled Oyo in the 15th century. And before them, it was Oranyan. When you also look at the fact that Oranyan was also the 6th Ooni and the Ooni kingship in Ife, after Oduduwa, is on its 51st king. Then you'll see that I'm right. |

scholes0: if it was meant as an actual staff, it could only have been held by a giant. |

scholes0:radio-carvon dating can only work on the material used in making the material itself, and not when the staff was moulded. The material used could have been there for centuries before the arrival of people in Ife. |
