Bambizzle4k4556: I guess your MSc is from UK. Then u can apply for Australia visa subclass 476. It allows recent engineering graduate from countries sign to the Washington accord to apply for a 18months temporary visa. The visa allow u to work full-time or study if u want. But u must be less than 31 years and apply within two years after graduation. The beauty of this visa is that u don't need to show any fund whatsoever. And it almost guarantee if u meet the criteria. Two of my friends has gotten it this year and am waiting for mine. This visa is not popular in Nigeria bcoz Nigeria is not a signatory to the Washington accord, so engineering graduate from Nigeria uni is not eligible. But u having a UK master engineering degree can apply (even if ur first degree is from Nigeria). 3 Likes |

As a newbiee to all this I am relying on the expertise of the house to make my decision. I don't really know which is better of the two. But personally I am looking for the most direct and straightforward of the two, easier to settle environment and lower costs of living. In general, they offer almost similar high standards of living. Bro, applied for 476 as well..submitted my application on jan 27. Haven't heard from them since..my status still reads Application submitted. How long did it take before your friends got it and when did you apply yourself? Cheers bro! Dfavouredone: |
Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Dfavouredone: 3:26pm On Mar 12, 2016 |
iceberg54: The time varies, but it was about a space of 2 - 3 months in general. A third friend just got his own yesterday and submitted around 2nd week of December, 2015. I submitted mine on the 29th of December last Year. Yet to receive final decision but have been contacted once by a CO to request for an additional document. So you will have to relax, that was how their status was until they received their approval mail. This 476 subclass visa is almost a sure banker if u meet the criteria. |

Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by iceberg54: 3:38pm On Mar 12, 2016 |
Thanks for your reply. I guess i will be patient then. It will be two months on the 27th and i haven't been contacted by any CO. But then they don't always require additional info. Please do you know if one is required to travel within a specified time after visa approval?. And does the 18 months start counting from visa approval date or when one lands in Australia? Sorry to bother you. Thanks a lot. Dfavouredone: |

Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Dfavouredone: 6:15pm On Mar 12, 2016 |
iceberg54: They don't always request additional document. Once you visa is granted they will give some months within which you will expected to arrive oz. It is usually more than six months though. Your 18 months visa grant start counting from the time you arrive oz. |

Dfavouredone: thanks so how do I apply and what and what is needed?? |
Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Dfavouredone: 7:04am On Mar 13, 2016 |
Bambizzle4k4556: First, you need an engineering degree from a country that is sign to the Washington accord (of which UK is signatory), the degree must have been completed not more than 24 months ago as the time of application. Secondly, the applicant should not be more than 31yrs of age as the time of application. Those are the two major criteria, every other thing is just supporting documents u need to summit like English language test result, birth certificate, degree certificate or statement of result, transcripts etc Check further details here. https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/476- |

Swimgood:thanks for your response, I have read through the thread and even the Australian immigration website but am still unclear about somethings. For example, my occupation is listed on both the CSOL and the SOL lists but I don't know which to pursue, secondly I don't know the one to select between subclass 189 and 190, lastly, since I already had my ielts done, what is the next step?. Please help me cos the process is still not very clear to me Thank you |
Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by alaoeri: 8:07pm On Mar 13, 2016 |
cuteannie02:If you are sure of the 60points benchmark, the first thing is to assess your B.Sc with the relevant authority. 189 visa is for workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a state or territory government. 190 visa is for workers who are nominated by a state or territory government agency. If nobody is sponsoring you SOL & if you are being sponsored or nominated CSOL. 1 Like |

Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by bellong: 10:55pm On Mar 13, 2016 |
noblealuu: The taste of the pudding is in the eating. I am not sure anyone here can answer the question except AITSL. If he meets the requirements, he should get a positive response. Like I said, until he put in for the assessment, no one can confidently say yes or no, individual circumstances are different. @Cuteannie02, Since your occupation is on the SOL list, apply for the 189 subclass. You only need minimum of 60points. First step though is to assess your skills and qualification with the assessing authority for your occupation. @Swimgood, The company can prepare payslip for him since he works there. However, without bank statement and tax clearance, I wouldn't know how he can navigate that water if the CO ask for additional documents. Better get your 60points without claiming work experience. |

The following occupations have been flagged in this financial year. What it means is that they may or may not be removed in the future. Remember that new financial year starts in July of every year. Whatever you need to do, just do it because anything can happen. https://www.education.gov.au/flagged-occupations-sol-2015-2016 1 Like |
