In reality most muslims have not read the quoran cause if they have and they are still in their right senses they will renounce islam. 1.This verse was revealed after the muslim left their home town due to persecution. Those who left their families behind were being tormented and their property looted.
The muslims needed to defend themselves from oppression. The verse was revealed as a permission/ go ahead to defend themselves.
