Ah! Ewo! Sango oh! Abinolenu, Obakoso/Olukoso. Now, lets get down to an underground spiritual game. Nah! Sango. The following are my reasons: 1) Sango is stronger because he was as real as christ. Amadioha is just an absolute myth, a sky Daddy. Amadioha is also described as the god of peace and love whereas, Sango is unapologetically only desribed as the God of fire/thunder/lightning. While Sango walked the earth, he was like a boiling kettle, fire comes out of his mouth when he makes speeches. 2) C'mon, we do not have pictures of them but if we were to guess what they looked like, Sango was definitely handsome. Why? Because Sango is one of the great grand sons of Oduduwa and judging from the statues of the pre-colonial Ooni's of Ife stolen by a German and colonial Britain, Sango was probably handsome, no homo! Meanwhile, Igbo pre-colonial artworks depicting humans is what Europeans would consider has primitive or unrealistic for Africans (Sadly ). 3) Once again, Amadioha did not walk the earth so his leadership skills cannot be judged. Sango was someone both friends and foes feared. Sango definitely had leadership skills that's why though he was the second born to Oranmiyan (the creator of the Oyo Kingdom) he took over from his bother Ajaka because his brother was considered too weak to rule Oyo. 4) Amadioha is the kind of God people pray to when they have smallpox, after offering sacrifices to him thinking your child would get healed, the smallpox suddenly spreads to you. Upon all, he'll still be worshiped and given titles like 'the God who strikes us but yet we still worship him'. Why? because he's a fairy tale that people refuse to stop believing. At least we believe Sango existed in flesh, so he was active especially when it comes to war. He was the third Alaafin of Oyo and his administration was the most wrecked with war. He wears red clothes and carries charms, and so does his followers, indicating he was also a God of war. 5) and finally, who can know about Amadioha's temper when he did not walk the earth and there is no written text about him. Even the the temper of the God of the Bible/Qur'an is controversial. One moment Yaweh is sending meteors from heaven to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, but yet God's name is love. One moment Allah commands Muslims to fight the Jews and Christians until they proclaim that there is no God but him and Muhammad is his prophet or they pay the Jizya tax and feel subdued, the other moment, Allah's vaguely says "if you kill one man, it's as if you have killed humanity and if you save one man, it's as if you've saved humanity". On the other hand, Sango walked the earth and he was said to have hot temper. He even burnt his house with lightning after the Goddess of rain and his third wife 'Oya' menstruated on his charm which liquid was not meant to touch. It is also said that he left his Kingdom out of annoyance and hung himself after the incident and that's why he his worshiped today because it take a lot of annoyance for a powerful King to hang himself. I also think his people were also experienced because they know how Sango's Father killed his people after he turned to a pillar and was being mocked by the same people who he told to call on his name for protection from their enemies. Anyway, the Idea that Sango hung himself has also been refuted by Ifa priests and that's why he his also called Obakoso/Olukoso meaning 'the king did not hang'. The first two Images below depict the statue of an Ooni, the third depicts an Olori, while the fourth depicts the statue of an Igbo artwork or individual. 7 Likes 4 Shares

I'm not sure how one could go about rating the two. They do not operate in the same domain and rites and traditions related to both a not the same. Also, you're unlikely to find any one person that is well-versed in the activities of both. Most either know one or the other (as in, Yoruba know Sango, but not Amadioha and Igbo know Amadioha but not Sango). The best you could do is to compile information about the two. A rating/comparison would simply be ill-advised. I don't know how anyone can come and say that they prefer Sango to Amadioha and vice versa without being versed about both. So, any answers you receive to this inquiry should effectively be treated as either biased or uninformed. 8 Likes |

Amadioha is the Alusi (god) of thunder and lightning of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. He is amongst the most popular of Igbo deities and in some parts of Igboland, he is referred to as Amadiora, Kamalu (which is short for Kalu Akanu),[1] Kamanu,[2] or Ofufe.[3] Astrologically, his governing planet is the Sun.[4] His color is red, and his symbol is a white ram.[5] Metaphysically, Amadioha represents the collective will of the people.[6] He is often associated with Anyanwu, who is the Igbo god of the Sun. While Anyanwu is more prominent in northern Igboland, Amadioha is more prominent in the southern part. His day is Afo, which is the third market day of the Igbo four day week.[7] Origins Literally Amadioha means man of the people. Most people from the eastern part of Nigeria acsribe the name to their local deity/god. Shrines to Amadioha still exist in different parts of Igboland, but the main shrine is located at Ogboro Ama Ukwu or Ihiokpu as it is called in Ozuzu in Etche Local Government Area of present day Rivers State, Nigeria. Although it is located there, it is not the patron deity of the people of Ozuzu. In fact, it is said that Ozuzu is the town in which Amadioha "lives" and it serves as it earthly headquarters. It is from there that it spread to other parts of Igboland.[8] Functions of Amadioha God of justice Amadioha is first and foremost known as a god of justice. He speaks through thunder, and he strikes with lightning. He creates thunder and lightning by casting "thunderstones" down to earth. [9] Persons judged guilty by Amadioha are either killed by lightning (which leaves a black mark on the forehead) or attacked by a swarm of bees.[10] The property of the victim is usually taken by the priests of Amadioha, and the body is left unburied and the victim unmourned, as the punishment is considered to be a righteous one from God.[11] In some parts of Igboland, Amadioha is used as a curse word.[12] Oaths are often sworn to him, which can carry deadly penalties when broken. The ritual cleansing for Amadioha is very costly and tasking. The deity can only be appeased by transferring the curse to a live goat that is let loose outside of the walls of the community. [13] The ram is a common offering for him.[5] The priestly clan of Amadioha are known as Umuamadi, which translates to children of Amadioha.[14] God of love, peace and unity Besides justice, Amadioha is also a god of love, peace and unity, and is prayed for increase of crops, children in the home, and benevolence.[15] Aside the above manifestations of Amadioha, he represents, as different from most African religious world views, a messianic hope for those in critical situations. Creator God Amadioha is also considered to be a creator God. In some traditions, human beings were made by him when he sent a bolt of lightning down to strike a silk cotton tree, which split and revealed a man and a woman.[16] Consort to Ani Amadioha is often shown as a husband to Ani, who is the Earth mother. In some Igbo traditions, the pair are said to be the first Alusi to have been created by Chukwu. The two are often honored with Mbari houses, which were made with mudbrick. Amadioha is typically depicted as a fair-skinned, titled gentleman of cool temper who is the patron of "light skinned Igbos" and "men of exalted rank."[17] While Ani is considered to be the lawmaker of Igbo society (which is known as Odinani), Amadioha is the enforcer and protector of the law. God of Carvers In the play, the Other Side of the Mask, the character Jamike refers to Amadioha as "the god of carvers" and identifies him further as "the god that sends lightning to kill the evil spirits who inhabit the trees from which carvers hew their wood.[18] Personal spirit Amadioha as a personal shrine is a spirit of enterprise that brings wealth. It is also a representative of the head of the household.[19] Oracle In precolonial times, the village of Ozuzu turned Amadioha/Kamalu into an oracle called Kamalu Ozuzu.[4] People would travel all over Igboland to visit the oracle in order to settle disputes and for help with crucial decisions. Parties found guilty by the oracle could be sold into slavery.[20] Proverbs and prayers associated with Amadioha "Amadioha magbukwa gi" (Amadioha will punish you) "Chi m le kwee - O wuru si o wu mu mere ihea, amadioha magbukwe m" (My god please see- If it is true that I did this thing, let Amadioha Kill me). I would say Sango. Sango is the god of Thunder/lightning, Fire and Swift Justice. He strikes down the wicked with immediate alacrity when he is invoked. His symbol is a double edged Axe, called 'Oshe Shango" While his worship item is Fulgurite or molten lightning stone, which is usually obtained from the spot where a bolt of lightning strikes the soil. Yorubas call it "Edun Ara" His favorite musical instrument is the Bata drum, which also produces "thunderous" beats when struck akin to a thunder bolt. His colors are Red and Black. Not to mention that Sango was also an extremely good dancer during his earthly incarnation. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Sango, a person in recent times known for emiting smoke (maybe fire) from his mouth was or is the Oyo's version of Oramfe. Fire, lightening, thunder and more were all originally Oramfe's forte till now until all of it became wrapped around Sango who was known for smoke and fire. |

This thread still makes little sense. The only thing Sango and Amadioha have in common is the association with lightning and thunder. Their respective mythos are simply not the same. To me, both are distinct. So it makes little sense for Africans to choose one, as if they are merely reflections of one another. You just end up creating a popularity contest that has little to do with their attributes and more to do with people's familiarity of one over the other. But if a popularity/familiarity contest is what you're after, then this thread would make sense. In which case, I stand on the side of Amadioha. By the way, didn't NL have polls or something like that? Has that been phased out or is still available, because you could make this a lot easier on yourself and everyone by creating a poll out of it. 1 Like 1 Share |
