We have alot of research done - a couple of research firms have been paid to come up with theories and all, everything was thrown away.
A research was even done recently on number of houses on the prepaid meters and the number was so low for what the number of household announced by Power ministries.
i feel so bad for this country - it's so sad

Buhari wants to diversify the nigerian economy and he appoints a lawyer as minister of works, housing and power. It's like appointing an engineer as minister of health while expecting a turn around in the health sector. Nothing personal against fashola though

Power supply: All homes in Lagos will be lit in six months if… —Fashola

March 09, 2015

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, said the solution to the problem of power sector could be achieved in six months if the Distribution Companies, DISCOs, were ready to yield some percentages of their concessions to the state government.

Fashola made this statement at the commissioning of the 1.2 kilometer Glover Road and 8.5 megawatts, Peninsula Integrated Power Project, PIPP, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The governor, while commissioning the fifth IPP, said: “Let the EKO DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government. In about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State.

“So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated.

‘’So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible.”

He opined that the project showed that the money to improve the Nigerian economy is here, “since we don’t need the World Bank to come and do this for us.”

Fashola noted that he felt fulfilled with the conduct of youths that delivered the project, despite the difficulties in getting to the finishing point.

Explaining the importance of the project, the governor said the project, courtesy of the state government, in partnership with PIPP and Heritage Bank, would help to provide power supply to power the Lagos State public water corporations in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as well as over 25km of public lighting in the Lekki axis.

Earlier, Commissioner, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Taofeek Tijani, said the new addition was about continuity in public infrastructure programme of the state government.

General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board, Damilola Ogunbiyi, said the state had shown that reliable and sustainable power projects are possible through the youths.

Ogunbiyi said though it had been a successful story, the state was just scratching the surface in its “aggressive development plan,” in the area of power.

Promoter of the project, Faruk Agoro, noted that the new IPP was an innovative idea of world-class natural gas-fired power generating facility, sold to the government by youths and it was bought into, to support government institutions, especially in the area of water supply and security.

Stage One is 8.5 megawatts, with the capacity for 30 megawatts. Lagos IPPs now has a total of 47 megawatts of electricity in total, powering public institutions around the state. The generated megawatts is however a tiny drop in the over 9,000 megawatts power deficit in the state.

Jeremy Hunt isn't a medical doctor, yet British minister for health. Philip Hammond I'm sure hasn't fired a gun before but is UK's Minister for Defence.

You don't always need experts as ministers, all you need are like-minded,progressive and honest individuals, and the job gets done.

the crazy thing now is that the man is just 10 months in office, and if the power situation begins to get better now, people like you will start to swallow back their vomits with no shame whatsoever.
he is 4 months in office, and not 10 months . Those criticising him are simply depraved individuals who were happy with a govt of over 5 years who failed to stabilise power supply. If there is one thing i am certain of, in the next 15 months, there would have been an appreciable increase in power supply to homes and relative stability. I am an Engineer , but i believe fashola thinks and acts systematically, he is good enough for the role.

With some of the comments that i am seeing above, i can see why most of our youths are not employable or work for people that exploit them mercilessly or run down their businesses.

You all need to know that administrators are not necessarily technical expert(s) in a field though he or she is allowed to know enough in order to be able to make decisions or contribute to discussions that will add values to the bottom-line.

Its funny how people want a long lasting solution to a problem Nigeria has been facing for decades but got no chill whatsoever. Finding a solution to the problem starts from the grass root,I support the minister because only an illiterate minister won't bother bout details.

IgboGoat:
Nigeria’s Power Minister, Babatunde Fashola, has stated that he’ll do all in his power to end the epileptic power supply bedeviling the nation.

When quizzed recently by newsmen whether there would be an end to the epileptic power supply in the country, the minister noted that having been properly briefed “in papers, files and memos” since he assumed office, of the situation in the sector, he had taken it upon himself to go round the country and have an on the spot assessment of the situation.

He however noted that what he had seen so far had given him hope that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

“This problem can be solved, it is a problem that has challenged us for a long time, not only am I going around to understand the situation, am at Ugwuaji now in Enugu, I’m going around to understand what I’m supposed to manage, I’ve been briefed in papers, in files and in memo, am going from power plants to power plants, from transmission sites to transmission sites, what I see convinces me that this problem can be solved, I’m optimistic that it can be solved, it just needs for us as a people to understand the system better and know how it works.

“I am going to be dedicating my time to breaking down all technical issues that have been sounding so heavy over decades so that the average Nigerian can understand how the system works. Our people must know that if people break down pipelines, you know that you are breaking the system, no matter how angry you are, a broken pipeline is going to affect you because you won’t have power, if people feel that the best way to secure employment for their colleagues in the union is to shut down the power plants, the truth is that they are going to hurt more people than the people they seek to protect.

“If people think that if there is a restructuring going on in any government agency, and they fear that most of their colleagues will lose work and the answer is to shut down gas stations, the truth is that more people that they seek to protect would be hurt than those they want their jobs secured, for me everybody must understand how your action or inaction affects the system, once this is done, I think I see a better tomorrow clearly,” he noted.
