This is obviously a lie. That is the Amphi Theatre and you can only see that mammoth gathering during PHIL 101 lecture periods. SER 00, as a special elective is conducted, lecture-wise according to departments and Faculties. You can never have students of all Faculties or departments sit at once in an exam hall like that, not with a humanities Faculty elective where you have the likes of Dr. Aruwa, Mrs Famakinwa, Dr. Babalola, Dr Akande, among a host of others. Interestingly, students hardly write exams in Amphi. It's not something you see everyday. SER001 is a compulsory elective and the school would never allow you students to sit that way. A space in between has always been OAU's style, even if you 500 students writing that exam. That is either CHM 101 class or PHIL 101 class. Reminds me of the days of "Jingo". 32 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: Shocking Photos Of OAU Exam Hall by Nobody: 1:25pm On Mar 16, 2016 |
Ever wonder why this is happening. When OAU was established, entering university in Nigeria was very tough. You went to secondary school for five years, then sat for the old WASC/GCE/LONDON Olevel. And how you passed that exam determined whether you went for the next step....A level. (In brief, 5 Credits at O level did not give you a place in university. Maybe teacher's college if you were lucky. If you wanted University...you had to retake WASC). And you needed to pass A levels at a certain level before you saw university. But between 1978-88.....that was phased out. Suddenly, instead of O and A levels, you wrote a new exam called JAMB and another one called WASSCE(used to be called SSCE). And you needed 5 credits in the new exam to get in to university. Isn't that simple. And all of a sudden....crowds of people were entering university where there were just one or two people. Then as the number of universities grew larger, someone forgot to increase funding for them. Or rather...the government had it difficult funding the universities because money was not enough. In 1979...90,000 students were enrolled in six universities. Now...it is 2-3 million. And somehow....we ran out of the money to fund them ' Anyway in 2009.....ASUU and the Government signed an agreement....whereby 3 trillion niara was to be given in extra funding to universities, the idea being that the unis would be able to build new facilities among other things. But by 2013....government suddenly said they could afford N1 trillion over 5 years. And they stopped paying that before PMB came around. Attempt to make up for the shortfall in funding was resisted on the grounds of poverty. And we cannot icnrease taxes because...poverty. Oil prices have fallen. In my opinion, students should be paying N60000-1.2Million naira per annum as fees. It costs that much to train a student in Nigerian universities. But...poverty. So...here we are. The Government and the People of Nigeria do not want to pay for better university.So...the universities remain awful. And the rich and middle class migrate out of the country, get a degree from foreign universities...and come home to displace the poor who struggled through a Nigerian unviersity. It is time we faced the cold reality in this country.Either we start paying more money for better university facilities, or the universities remain messed up.Or maybe some of you who have fortunes of N1trillion can donate them to the benefit of our country's education system.Or maybe we pay higher taxes to maintain free education. 6 Likes 3 Shares |
