Age 14 got married on parental consent? That's against the law of the land. U see things like this happen around the country but, specifically, i hate it when people try as possible as they can to justify evil. Nobody in the christians' dominated south supported rape case of Ebonyi state. and this, to the best of my knowledge wasn't the case of yunusa when his got mentioned. So there's a huge gap in rationalisation between north and south.
Yes,on parental consent.
We shld learn to tolerate each other.
It's okay.

Some people are just idiiotzs angry . He just wants to write because he can write.
Does anyone here support rape, whether South or North ?

Ese was abducted and forced into Islam and yet sone slowspoke think it's okay. The abductors did it in tbe name of Islam. If this Op sees nothing wrong with this then, may the same thing happen to his daughter.

Your post stinks of ignorance and stupidity.
First of all let me categorically state that Islam does not condone Kidnapping, rape, forced marriage or conversion; and that anybody who does that would have disobeyed Islam.
This does not mean, however, that there will be no Muslims who will disobey Islam just as there will be no Christians who will disobey Christianity.
Condemning either religion for the individual actions of deviants within them is downright stupid and ridiculous.
Secondly, anybody who believes everything written in Nigerians newspapers needs to have his head re-examined because everyone is aware of the unprofessional junk journalism we have today; never expect unbiased reporting when it comes to religion because the predominantly Christian owned and controlled media would understandably always tilt towards christinity at the expense of Islam - an intelligent discerning reader should always be weary and able to read between the lines.
Thirdly, the stories you copied and pasted are products of the typical poor journalism that I had mentioned, majority of the cases have something in common; they are not forceful abductions as reported but elopement or simply the girls ran away from their homes/parents.
For example, in Ese's case the prosecutors have had to drop the charges of forced marriage and conversion after thorough investigation as against what the press was falsely reporting and the gullible public believing.

As for your parting shot against the north concerning rape, abduction and crime; well I'd like to say first look at your own backyard before pointing at others because when it comes to: rape we all know who are the champion rapists.
Just take a look at the crime section of this forum and you'd come across several despicable examples of reported rape ranging from gang rapes, sons against their mothers to child molestation; even as the Ese's case was going on there were two parallel cases of fathers raping and impregnating their own daughters, one of them a man of god,a pastor.
At the same time there was another case of ritualists sticking a huge stick into a 2yr old girl's vagina for their evil purpose.
As for crime in general and abduction/kidnapping in particular, we all know that you southerners head everybody in this department, in fact only recently the police discovered a training school for kidnappers.
When it comes to animalistic behavior nothing can surpass CANNIBALISM which is quite rife in the south.
Stop the hypocrisy and bigotry pls.

Finally, note that northerners are not supporting any of the accused based on the allegations against them, however, we abhor the blanket condemnation of the region, Islam and Hausa/Fulani tribes for the singular crimes of individual within the groups.

You've spoken well my brother.

God bless you

There's So much hate and hypocrisy on this forum. What's the difference between what the emir did and what the igbo chief did? Who is even worse. Shielding a rapist/murderer or shielding an abductor/rapist? Lets think dispassionately for once. The evil in the south is not in anyway different from the one up north. They should be duly reported.

Well, I keep saying. Nigerian Christians are the worst brand of Christianity. They can never progress because they have so tied their progress to some blawdy GOs and hypocrisy.

A simple survey of rape cases on Nairaland alone will paint a gory picture of Christian rape endemic. However, that is not something you find people talking about. Also, Muslims are not calling out Christians to apologise for the rape cases of the pastors and church elders.

As for Ese's case, Yunusa did an awfully bad thing. However, he is still better than most youths in the South who impregnate girls and do not take responsibility. If the rape cases lead to pregnancy, it is usually swept under the carpet.

Rape happens all over the world and it is a crime. We know that and condemn it whole heartedly.

Sharia court sentencing christian children to illicit marriages without parental consultation or consent is an exceptional precedent.

It take a criminal act and attempts to legalise it.

It legalises child kidnap, rape, forced marriage and islamisation.

No level of crime lalasticlala puts on the front page will justify the legalisation of criminal act by the Sharia Court and Emir.

Nobody will say anything but they are involving our christian children and tribes in their criminality.

Really condemned, what hypocrisy

I'm yet to see people comdemn rape which is a primal evil I've seen people like yourself blame the victims of abdicating their safety due to "going places they should have known better" , staying out late or dressing indecently

Keep chatting rubbish.

I currently live in the south and my js3 student spent last two nights in her boyfriends room. This is most rampant as some of them actually take in and stop coming to school. All these are normal in their societies.
The saddest thing is that whenever a certain pastor commits a crime even if he links it directly to Christianity, he's labeled a fake pastor, but a a misguided motor park rout commits a crime so long he has a Muslim sounding name, it's Islam that takes the bashing.

Progressive01:
Good evening.

Before leaving the office this evening, I decided to do a once over on the front page of the forum (as I mostly just keep refreshing the politics section for updates) and saw a news item that caught my interest: Newtelegraph reported a case of a girl that died of injuries she sustained after being gang raped by six boys.

From the report, there were two victims but so far, only one has died. I Hope and pray the other makes it to full recovery.

The unfortunate and barbaric incident took place in Onicha Igboeze in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi state, South East Nigeria

Four suspects were said to have been remanded at the federal prison, Abakaliki; while the other two were granted bail at the behest of one Chief Ogbonnaya Okereke.

For convenience purposes, let's call the victim Amaka. (apologies to all the Amakas in the house).

Digest the preamble above as I introduce miss Ese Oruru.

The person Ese Oruru actually needs no introduction on this forum, and perhaps, across Nigeria. Governors, traditional rulers, ministers, police chiefs, senators, civil rights activists, political party bigwigs, mainstream media, religious leaders, legal luminaries, Nobel prize winners, educational heavyweights, and the ordinary man on the street are all familiar with the name Ese Rita Oruru. She rivals the famous Olajumoke in (un)popularity and had what she was associated with a thing of pride, perhaps she would have been the brand ambassador of countless brands across the country today.

Hers was a story of an alleged 13 year old Bayelsan kidnapped and forcefully married and converted to Islam by one Yunusa Yellow, a NORTHERNER

The story of Ese Oruru took the media by storm and literally BROKE THE INTERNET!! The social media, from facebook to twitter, was on fire for days on end as Nigerians were held spellbound by the unbelievably barbaric act of Yunusa Yellow, Ese's alleged boyfriend.

Nairaland of course wasn't left out of the orgy!! Google the words "ese oruru nairaland" and you'd be awe struck at the sheer number of threads that were created on account of that incident! Of course that was expected as nothing gets the forum in a frenzy more than a story of an alleged abuse of a Southerner by a Northerner, or a Christian by a Muslim!

Threads about the incident hurriedly made the front page and run several pages before losing steam- all after commentators must have taken turns to abuse Muslims and Northerners generally. These group of people seem defenceless on the forum and perhaps social media generally since they are not as internet savvy and social media inclined as people from other parts of the country.

At the receiving end of the relentless attacks were:

1. Mr President; his crime being that he's also a Northerner and a Muslim.

2. Emir of Kano whose offence is same as that of Mr President.

Some stretched their hate to their elastic limits as the accuse the president of personally sanctioning the incident since he's a "paedophile" as he also married Aisha "at the age of 13!!"

The attacks went on for days unabated culminating in a threat by Senator Ben Bruce to sue the IGP to the ICC! Abati also arrived the scene to take his own pound of flesh!! Femi Fani Kayode of course also took his share as he could not be left out of the fist fest, moreso, it was right down his alley!!!

Now folks, fast forward a week after, news breaks of a SOUTHERN teenager raped to death by SOUTHERNERS and social media and Nairaland is as quiet as a King Tut's Tomb!!

Why is this so Nigerians??!!

1. Is Ese's life worth more than that of the girl that was brutally raped to death??

2. Are the dramatis personae involved in a crime of this nature supposed to determine the level of press/general coverage/attention it receives?? Would the offence have been more criminal had the rapists come from another region or belong to another religion??

3. Is this the first time a crime of this nature is happening in this part of the country?? Why are they usually undereported?? Whose purpose is the press serving??

4. Following from the logic of the Ese Oruru's commentators, would it be appropriate if one tagged Christians or South Easterners as child rapists and murderers owing to the crime of six folks out of millions??

5. Was the case for Ese borne out of altruism and sheer concern for her welfare or was it more about POLITICS??

6. Would things stand where they are as regards the Ebonyi incident had it been reported the name of one of the culprits is Adamu??

Mull over these while I take a sip of water... Brb.

Back..

Now, as much as we can, we always try to pass ourselves off as modern, civilised and intelligent folks with unrivalled knowledge about the essence of humanity, and more often than not, in the course of doing so, the underbelly of our disdain for civility is revealed; ironic one would say.

Here's what I'm talking about: what Yunusa did was unacceptable in all ramifications and ought to be condemned by any right thinking human- but in doing this, some people, a good number, revealed their potential to do a lot worse than Yunusa could ever dream of doing. They literally forgot about the culprit and aimed the barrel of their cannons right at the heart of Northerners and Muslims generally! Some said they should be nuked and completely vaporised off the surface of the earth, that it is the panacea to world peace- these astonishing propositions put forward by supposed Christians who should know better!

Ese lives, Amaka is dead, but Yunusa's crime seems to surpass that of the Ebonyi Six. How convenient!

This type of scenario has been playing out since God-knows-when.

Let me digress a little at this point to share another nauseating instance of this double standard/hypocrisy.

Few hours ago, someone created a thread regarding the Senators who killed the Women's Rights Bill in the Senate. I don't know how reliable the news is but the op mentioned some Senators that supported the bill and three who didn't. Out of the three, two were presumably Muslims (from their names) while one was a Christian who sited a verse in the Bible to justify his stance against the bill.

Predictably when some people arrived the scene to comment, they completely ignored the Christian Senator and the reason put forward by him for his position and attacked the "almajiri Senators", inundating the thread with just about enough insults to knock the lights out a heavyweight boxer.

They became selectively oblivious to events of the recent past involving the Enugu state house of assembly where a similar bill was killed just the same way leaving one to ask: how many Northern almajiri honourables are present in Enugu SHoA that they succeeded in killing such a wonderful bill??

Mull over that for a moment reader...

Now tell us fellas, why have we chosen to turn the Northerners/Muslims into our preferred bogeymen and e-punching bags?? Exactly what crime did the North commit?? Since when did we jettison our democratic level tolerance for ethnoreligious diversity??

Politics is a game, and as such, must always have winners and losers. A people have an inalienable prerogative to vote whoever they think could best advance their course and interests; the Northerners saw that man in Buhari and the South Easterners and South Southerners saw the person in Jonathan. Each people threw their weight behind their preferred candidate and fate smiled on the former- how difficult is that to accept

Many a great democracy were built on such incidences of shift of power from a political party with time as it addresses mediocrity and dictatorship. It is in the best interest of those who lost to go back to the drawing board and realign their strategy. Take your defeat in your stride, learn from your mistakes, and take another shot at your goal- what comes of it would be anybody's guess.

As it stands today, Ese and Amaka's cases would, for a long time to come, remain a dark reminder of our hypocrisy as a people. They would remind us of how morally depraved we've become all in the name of politics.

The Abatis, FFKs and Muray Bruces of this world would remain completely mute over this as talking about it and condemning the culprits and the region from whence they come wouldn't do their political base any good. They all thrive on the hatred and mundane prejudices they've sown in our hearts, through their utterances, which we sometimes express indeliberately- meaning they've become a part of our character!

We must strive to exorcise that spirit of hate and kill it, lest it kills us all.

Remember:

Religious wars are not caused by the fact that there is more than one religion, but by the spirit of intolerance... the spread of which can only be regarded as the total eclipse of human reason.- Charles de Secondat.

Good night.

You gat some good writing skill..

Let me ask you some questions

1, Was Amaka raped in any igwe palace?

2, Did any igwe aid the rapist in his palace ?

3, How many southerners, igwes, lawyers & san have come out to defend the rapists & justify their actions ?

When your religion or your culture is at fault, you should have the humility to accept that something about it needs to change.

Let me add another clear bias..

Ese Oruru:
As far as I am concerned was not abducted at Gunpoint or Kidnapped. She ran away from home and went to live with her Abokey lover in the North where she got pregnant and coverted to Islam.

The Dead girl and the other Girls were raped.. They didnt go to visit their boyfriends and got raped. They were attacked in their homes and violated.

There is an obvious difference in these two matters..

But because of the Islam undertone of Ese Oruru's case, everybody has got an erectio-n. The have called for the hanging of Yinusa Yellow. Tunde MadMan Bakare called for his diick to be cut off. All our champion advocates jumped on the matter and were ready to wage war and bring the nation to a stand still. Even the Emir Sanusi was insulted and called names despite the obvious fact that his involvement was minimal and that he ordered that she be returned to her parents.

But in the Ebonyi case of "Amaka", everybody seems to be chilled. Yes its annoying but atleast they were not raped by Muslims or Gay People (Because the only thing that Gets Nigerians going is Islam and Homosexuality). grin The Chief Ogbonnaya that bailed some of the Perps have not received and any flak whasoever, but Sanusi who instructed that Ese be returned to her people was cursed out for days.. grin grin

Lets not stop there.. last week on this same Nairaland, A 56 year old Father raped his 10 year old daughter.. The reaction on the thread did not carry the same level of venom the Ese case carried. But imagine the story read 56 year old Muslim Man marries 10 year old bride.. Niggas would get into the street with placards.

Just a few days back (yesterday), a 35 year Old Man (Pastor) rapes his 13 year old househelp with a candle.. Yes people reacted, but it was not as bad because it was not a muslim Alfa that was involved.

I have said it that they should just give those Rapist their 6 Months to 2 years sentences and set them free. That is the law of the jungle we live in. A Nation so bigoted and blinded by their hate for things that actually have no bearing whatsoever on their lives.

Nigerians know how to channel their hate towards the wrongest of directions.

Progressive01 Please dont bother.. The next thing is they will attack you and make you the new enemy. Nigerians are not interested in the message but the messenger. As far as they are concerned, its North vs. the rest or Islam vs Christians.

You are only giving us your opinion about Ese. You don't know her. What happened against her can't be justified no matter how you want to twist it. She is not the 1st person to be abducted from the South, mind you.

Secondly, this does not justify raping of minors. If you had noticed, all the rapists were charged to court. No one justifies rape, whether it is committed by a Southerner or Northerner. All rapists should be punished. I don't know why you guys think anyone is justifying rape.

Any sane person would be mad if his/her underaged daughter is abducted into marriage and forced to pickup anothet religion. There's no bigotry here. Try and abduct a Fulani girl and marry her, you will see what will happen to you.

Hypocrisy at it's best, you obviously do not comprehend the issue well.

The evil of rape which is endemic in the South East and somewhat is the SS and SW is far greater than an elopement.

We are yet to receive any qualitative information of systematic mass abductions of minors beyond the activities of BH.

We have many young ladies being killed, and murdered South of the Niger in their hundreds daily by their fellow clans people. A total betrayal of trust and allegiance.

People like you pay it no mind, it's not your family member of friend that has been raped after all and their is no tribal gain or an opportunity to insult those northerners.

God is watching you all in 3D
There is no profit in feigning stùpidity. Ese mother was against the union why did the Islamic cult not seek approval? Her mother was hounded and threatened in kano while Ese too confessed to being unable speak when she saw her mother in Kano. You call all that elopement. Even if she truly eloped she is still a minor.

never say d truth..if a muslim does something you
attribute it to Islam but christians..you won't
ascribe it to christianity....

If a muslim does something, no one will attribute it to Islam if some
eminent muslims are not rallying around such criminals.

Everyone knows that crime has no religion, but when religion adherents starts
defending their brothers in faith, then you won't blame those who attack such
religion.

If everybody start condemning a crime even if is done by people of the same
faith, then religion victimisation won't exist.

Standing5:
There is no profit in feigning stùpidity. Ese mother was against the union why did the Islamic cult not seek approval? Her mother was hounded and threatened in kano while Ese too confessed to being unable speak when she saw her mother in Kano. You call all that elopement. Even if she truly eloped she is still a minor.

The mother that was aware of the affair before the so called abduction.

Ese was lying undecided

most southerners are hypocrites, they will not come out to condemn a gurl raped to death simply because the culprits because they are not muslim/northerners

they are directly implying a case of girl raped to death/pastor defiling his own daughter is better than ese eloping with her lover, we condemn yellows case but what happens down south is far worse
the average northerner doesnt breed this hatred for southerner
the hatred these guys have for northerners is apalling
WHY?

Thanks OP.. The hypocrisy is damn annoying, a muslim does something wrong and all the stupid hypocrites will come out insulting religion and every muslim, when their pastor rapes someone, the only thing the intolerant bigots will say is 'end time pastor' or fake pastor. No one will remember his religion or State. When a muslim name is attached to a crime all muslims should prepare to have their religion bashed but when it's someone with other religious affiliation no one remembers their religion. Bloody hypocrites.

What Yellow did was wrong, but that girl surely wasn't abducted, call her naive whatever, she eloped out of her own volition. 14 yr olds get pregnant these days without some even knowing who the exact father of the child is out of their multiple sexual partners but there is nothing wrong with this as long as it doesn't happen in the North.
