The Nigerian Army says it has commenced investigation into the recent killing of some pro-Biafra protesters in some parts of the south-east zone, especially Aba in Abia state, allegedly by its officers.

It stated that anybody found culpable would be decisively dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who made the disclosure while addressing newsmen during his maiden visit to the headquarters of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, said a situation where troops open fire for the sake of fun would not be tolerated, adding that the investigation would be thorough.

“We are already investigating. Such incidences, when they occur and result in loss of lives, we usually investigate, that’s our procedure and just as I told you, we have our own rules of engagement, definitely, troops cannot just open fire, just for the sake of fun, we are investigating the matter,” he said.

He urged his officers and men to always respect their rules of engagement which he observed had enormous regards for human rights, noting however that there is a limit to what the military can tolerate.

“Since my appointment, I gave out my vision statement which is to have a professionally responsible army in the discharge of of its constitutional roles. These visions are been pursued and the results are there in all the formations. When we say professionalism, we do our duties in professional manners as thought to us in various training institutions.

“In the areas of operation, your colleagues in North East are doing very well and also your internal security operations are very impressive, you must maintain the standard and ensure that we work within the framework of our rules of engagement. Our rules of engagement also provides for human rights protection, its basically on human right protection and indeed protection of every innocent citizen.

You see, I am maniacally bewildered, it's high time hypocrisy becomes a punishable offence in this. It is getting out of hand. Every tom and Jerry knows that those guys acted on the orders of a superior. With the way Mr. President spoke during Aljazeera interview, it was crystal clear that there was this willingness to order the shootings of any kind of Biafra protest, even when those guys are unarmed, forgetting that the quest for self determination is never, and will never be a crime.

As a President, wisdom to preside over your domain precedes every other single flair you might possess. By acting all stubborn, you only strengthen the resolve and zeal of others to push for what they believe in.

The fear of ICC is the beginning of wisdom.

So unless u have evidence to add to army's investigation, be quiet!

Do that so that justice will prevail. Those protesters were armless and it was a peaceful protest.

It think it is clear to the despotic president that tomorrow is pregnant. Am sure intelligent people have advised on towing the path of good sense. But the so called investigation is only window dressing because the dastardly acts were planned and agreed among the evil forces of oppression in Nigeria. But the move, however is indicative of the cowardly acts of a bully who suddenly feels exposed amidst his own limitations. Meanwhile all the events were recorded including his interview with Aljazera. One day they will all be called to account.

This same army that depended on South African mercenary to rout Boko Haram still has the audacity to shoot at unarmed protesters.

This is just pure macabre dance. Truth is that the Nigerian army is trying to save face and to pretend to be Human right defenders, this is so, because they want to compromise the report of the Amnesty International which is due to be out in no distant time.

But unfortunately the deeds are too weighty and the evidence to damning to be hidden. So the NA should instead save us the embarrassment of going into a venture whose end is predictable. I am happy that in the midst of all these IPOB never retaliated or fought back, but had recourse to the law, this is so, so that when it starts IPOB will be on the path of justice.
