I thought in marriage we are one, so money is a demarcation? cheesy

Seriously though, I'm all for give me, if you want to and definitely treat me the way you want to be treated, so it's not about greed or whatever, there are factors to be considered.

Cocoa butter greed is the only way to qualify it.

Don't try to sneak stuff in, naughty girl. Just as forcing a woman to sleep with her husband is unjust, so is a man forced to provide for his wife. You could ask that those are spousal responsibilities, but applying force is evil. Any spouse who cannot bear to suffer neglect, financial or sexùal is at liberty to leave.

Secondly, you are only one in marriage not after a divorce. Unless youre implying that a man can come and be demanding sex from his estranged/divorced wife. grin. Once they split, that shoule be that. If the man wants to still take financial care of an ex-wife good for him.

What considerations do you speak of?

It's not greed Tim.

Quit with sex analogy jor, how does the two fit? You can get sex elsewhere during marriag / after dissolve, is it same for marriage?tongue

You do have to ask why spousal support is paid in the first instance, so many things happen and could've have happened in a married person's life. The person may have become better off, if they didn't marry you, supporting and helping you all those years. undecided

So my dear, if you have more money than her, you have to pay.

Lol, you be olè. Oya, wipe your mouth.

What's wrong with sèx as an analogy? People have sex with people who aren't their spouses before, during and after marriage. There is nothing sacred or divine about it. You can even get it for 500NGN. grin. If the law will mandate property sharing, it is only just and fair that the law mandates continued sexùal intercourse between estranged couples. I'm sure most men would feel compensated after being coerced to part with their valuables.

Madam, forget spousal support. After divorce, you're no longer my problem. You can't hate me and love my money and property. I know for a fact that American men are increaingly refusing to marry these days because of such things as spousal support amongst other marital law injustices, google "The Sexodus". The thing wey dey fail for there na hin we wan copy? grin Africans will not kill persin. It could get to the point where the government forces men to marry because they completely opt out.
Wake up, CocoaButter. You and your sisters should go and work for your money.

I guess sex is a commodity you pick off a shelf, why won't you compare both? Are we even talking about sex as just an act? It's about the person you will have the sex with. The law is very fair, the person with more money pays. I don't want anything with you, you are only paying because whether you like it or not, being married to you, raising kids and whatnot, can be a factor for you ending up richer so, yea, you have to pay.

Make them no marry na shior, wetin concern me?like men aren't cashing in on spousal support cheques monthly, abegi.

Have my cake and eat it? Nah.

What is so special about sex that you aren't giving to only me. The aveatge woman will have 3 or more sexual partners before marriage. There's nothing valuable about the sex she has with the husband who might be partner number 4 to 60. Don't flatter yourselves abeg. The only difference is that exclusivity of the sexùal act is expected, it is not even guaranteed. So, where's th value?

There is nothing fair about mandating a person to pay money to a divorced spouse. The women who pay certainly don't feel good about it. If you have to be forced to pay alimony/palimony, you should be forced to stay married.

Child support should exist in place of spousal support. An ex should not be my problem. Moreover, the parent who has the capacity to care for offspring should have them, except where here was an agreement between the couple for either spouse to shun work. Then the one who sacrificed work and career should rightly be compensated.

Never mind having kids. I'll just go the surrogate way, get maids and you can go make all the money you want. See your mouth like may make you richer. Provide proof that it made me richer na. Olè.

No court marriage for yall abeg.

Sweetcocoa, I noticed you didn't counter my claim about western men eschewing marriage with eloquence or facts. You simply dismissed it, and deflected it with the fact that a percentage of men also getvspousal support. That is quite disingenuous and I would advise you to look at that piece of information critically, as well as the phrase I suggested you search. There cannot be equality without justice, fairness and balance.

Perhaps, as a woman you value sex more than property. I would tell you that as a man i value property more than sex.

The way you talk about a woman eh, o mase o, omo mi grin , the man didn't have partners before marrying her?

Lol @ surrogate, why get married then? I guess the surrogate would raise the babies too, of course she will, dedicate her life to them and just walk away with nothing, when she's done, or maybe you'll raise the kids yourself? What kid needs his mother anyway?

My friend, make I hear word jor, you be a married woman first and then come tell me how my support didn't make you richer? grin.

Lol, for any girl dumb/desperate enough to marry, especially with this your mentality, me I no won't marry you like this, plus I don't even want to be a woman who gets spousal support in an event of divorce, but I also understand why it's fair to pay it tongue.

I'm far from angry. I'm just stating the obvious. If both genders have sex before marriage, that renders it even less valuable. It is not a valued bargaining chip. It is just like their every other commodity, it's transient in trade. wink

I have zero respect for the entitled, greedy women. There are women worthy of respect, sadly, they are increasingly in the minority. Consequently, I find it imperative to protect my interests, if marriage proves harmful to me I'd gladly do away with it.

I consider only a woman who gives me her love and loyalty worthy of my sweat. The moment she withdraws these things, i withdraw my goodies. You cannot take from me and give me nothing in return. Fair is fair.

Surrogates sign agreements. They are simply tools and implements. One doesn't need marriage to be happy, that's what you feminists have been screaming. Now we men have seen the light and the taste of freedom is exhilirating. Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be doing just fine.

Per dumbness and desperation. Any woman with any sense of value knows I'm a great catch. Not arrogance, just fact. As I understand my worth, I can make demands that protect my interests. If a woman feels they are too steep, she may leave. I'm sure I can manage another catch rather quickly.

Men do not generally want to cheat women. And what are scared about? I'm beginning to feel you're just trolling. And if it is true men are losing, rest assured, they will re-evaluate the rules of the game and play to win. And, mark my words, men will win because we are solution seekers.

If there's a law today in the west stopping women from paying, you will not hear a whisper of male protestation. It is even shameful for a man to pursue, talk less of actually collecting. Tufiakwa.

Stop arguing with yourself, old woman. Show me where I said women are just good for sex. If I call you olodo now you go dey vex.

You keep comparing paying alimony to a woman, to sex, taking 'bout why she should get money if the man can't sleep with her after divorce, what's that?

1. After divorce, she has all but withdrawn whatever love she may have or may have had. I reserve/should reset the right to withdraw my assets. Whether she loved or didn't love is immaterial post divorce. I no longer care about her love, she shouldn't care about my money.

1. When you say the woman gives sex to get security, I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to respond to that but I'm glad even you know it's more than sex. You believe, cause of divorce and other factors aren't put in place before a ruling? Each case is different, you talk like it's a one size fits all approach.

1. I know you will try to paint an altruistic picture of your gender, but the truth is neither gender is truly altruistic in terms of relationships of any definition, and especially not of the romantic strain. I agree we'll arrive at no middle point, but only because we look at the matter from different vantage points. I, naturally, think I've got a better, more experienced understanding to these things, as such, I'd be so prejudiced.
You try to imply that women divorce because men make them, men would disagree. And because men disagree, and lose out post divorce, the thought of marriage sounds like a bad business deal. Since the implementation of no-fault divorce, women have been initiating divorce up to 78% of the time, after which he's mandated to pay her way through life amongst other indignities. Surely, the male is flawed in marriage, and he's increasingly shying away from an institution he's sure to fail at.

2. Lol. I see you've a steady supply of Kwale weed. Naija men want marriage more than women. Hahahahaha. That's a good one.

We could go back and forth forever to no avail, although I don't understand how divorcing you for cogent reasons is a crime and equates to greed, I guess you expect a woman to continue emotionally investing in you regardless of why she may no longer want to, nice.

Ample warning ko amplifier warming ni.tongue

You and those million men can take your case to court and yes, I don't think what you consider facts on the matter, have any merits, why waste time on it? If you don't see the importance of a woman besides sex, why are we even having this conversation? Abegi

Blah, blah, blah. Is it not in this nairaland that someone mentioned a couple in divorce court over an argument of whether or not yo give their child Viju milk? What is a cogent reason apart from adultery and abuse? Stop arguing with yourself. If she withdraws her own investments, I withdraw mine. No biggie. Everyone's happy. But withdrawing yours and fixating your eyes on mine will lead to violent blindness. wink

You've been warned.

You like arguing with yourself. Show me where I state or even implying women are only good for sex. I expect you to invalidate my points with yours, not conjure statement and ascribe them to me. angry

Yea, in your small mind, the viju milk is why they have to get divorced and I'm the olodo? grin. Two people not being able to agree on issues like whether to give viju milk or not, is a cogent reason.

Your warning doesn't mean shit, you are only blowing hot air.tongue

I'm arguing with myself, yet somehow you are still here. undecided

When you say that sex is the currency women trade with in a relationship, I honestly don't know what you think that means.

I have to type everything in my already long post? Of course, they can't agree on anything, but do you not think it would injustice to part with half my belongings because my wife and I cannot seem to arrive at an agreement on seemingly trivial issues? Note that the woman initiated this case, would she be so quick to call court if she were to lose half her stuff? I seriously doubt that.

Arguing with yourself = Strawman

Exactly what it says. What do you think it means?

Not necessarily, you don't.

What you call trivial, another person will call consequential. Again you fail to realise that each case is unique, quit judging them as one. Who is to say that she wouldn't head to court if she's the one paying SS? These so called seemingly trivial issues often turn into weighty ones so why stay if you can't work it out? You are only seeing these women divorcing their hubby cos of the money they get, that's why you hold on so tightly to your belief. I won't deny the fact that there are greedy people everywhere, but this doesn't mean that, there's no good reason to pay alimony.

It's pretty obvious and self explanatory so I don't have to manufacture a meaning for it.

Btw, any argument against yours is strawman, na today? Abegi.
