Dear VO,
Thank you for the great job you are doing here and responding timely to your messages.
My husband and I own a company here in Nigeria and we represent two American companies in Nigeria. I was traveling to the United States in February 2014 to have a baby and also conduct business on b1/b2 visa. The CBP official said that i was unable to rebut the presumption that i was an intending immigrant that I did not demonstrate that I had the financial means to cover my expenses in the United States. I was charged under section 212(a)7(a)(i)(i), immigrant without documents. Visa was cancelled and i was deported and barred from entering the United States for 5 years. The Case was reported to Department of Homeland Security DHS Redress. I got a reply in August 2015 from a Director Admissibility and Passenger Programs (Office of Field Operations) that I should file form i 212 form at the embassy when requesting for visa.

My question is this
1. I am applying with my husband and children as a family. Will my application (decision) affect their application? My husband and one child (age 5) are renewing their visa, while two children (age 2 & 1) are first time applicants.
2. Will the visa officer automatically collect the form i 212 from me or i will have to make a case for him/her to collect it?
3. What is the average time to process the form i 212?
4. Will my passport be released back to me while the form i 212 is being processed just incase i have to travel for other business endeavors? Will my spouse and children passport be held back as well since we are all appplying together?
5. Any recommendations about submitting the form i 212 that may help my case.

Hello flowing12,

Read what you just wrote. You were barred from reentering our country for five years. Please do not waste your family's money by applying within that five-year period. To be frank, if you have a history of being turned around or deported, it would be in your interest to consider traveling to other countries.

Dear VO,
Thank you for you response. The problem is that I have already booked for a visa appointment next month. I guess we were misled by the Department of Homeland Security Customer Redress program and the Director Admissibility and Passenger Programs (Office of Field Operations) who wrote us to that I should file form i 212 form ( Application for Permission to Reapply for Admission into United States after Deportation or Removal) at the embassy when requesting for visa. Sincerely we do a lot of business with the US, and we are even member of the US Department of Commerce NUSA program in Lagos. Inability to renter the US may mean an end to our business with US companies and like you recommended we switch to China where we are still welcome.

Dear VO,

I hope you can help, as this has been causing me some mental anguish.
I have two half-brothers in the US - I will emphasise that we are NOT CLOSE. Complex family structure, my parents both had first marriages etc etc they were both grown up by the time I came along. Perhaps the correct term is that we're "estranged."
I don't have their addresses - we haven't spoken in years.
Now on the DS-160 form, it asks if I have a relative in the US, and I know I must disclose.

Will it sound odd to say I have half-brothers but I don't know where they live/we are not close in the interview? It's the honest truth. Also, will it be strange to disclose siblings and not have said sibling as the US point of contact?

I plan to go on a vacation and I have no intention of visiting them.

Thanks a lot

VO:which sch did u apply to?
My reply:NCAT
VO:why did u chose the sch?
My reply:being a technical institution, focuses more on sci and tech.which will add great value to my academic career also after exchanging couple of mails with the provost of research who directed me to the research team head of comp-sci,i was convinced of a good student-lecturer relationship which will give me easy adaptation to the sch learning process.I also mentioned the mild weather and climatic condition of the state.
VO:who is ur sponsor?
My reply:my dad
VO:what does he do?
My reply:he is an engineer by profession, ceo of enilolobo motors and basically deals with auto sales and has a large workshop for repair and services.
VO:how much is his salary?
My reply:i am not certainly sure of his income as that depends on the gross income and net profit after payment of tax, salaries and utility bills.
VO:could you give any likely figure he receives as salary?
My reply:like I said I can't say with all certainty but it will be btw 500-600k.
VO:did you apply into any other sch?
My reply:yes,NCCU
VO:what do u do?
My reply:I am a network administrator;NB:The 3rd time I went I was already working with mtn as an IP core network engineer as the answer.
VO:are u married?
My reply:No;NB:i was married b4 I went for the 3rd interview.i got married Aug 15th.so she didn't ask.
VO:do u know any1 in the institution?
My reply:NO
VO:Have u traveled before?
My reply:NO;NB: I went to Ghana before the 3rd interviiew.so this wasn't asked in the 3rd interview.

But while I was asked why I chose the sch in the first interview appearance ,I developed a cold feet and lost my consciousness.the second interview was great and the lady had to call the first interviewer, switched off the speaker, had a chat and denied the visa again.the 3rd time was great also but it was thesame interviewer in the 2nd appearance that did that again.i was composed, maintained eye contact and pour out freely.i was the 3rd person she attended to after refusing 2 student applicant.
Now I am considering using a joint sponsor, myself and my dad.

Dear VO,

how do i write 'Abimbola-Ajayi' being the surname (hyphen in between names) in the box provided to input surname knowing well fully that the application does not accept special characters.

Secondly, where i was asked to provide maiden name in the surname box, i write 'Abimbola-Ajayi (Adeola)' where Adeola is the maiden name. the system didnt accept it.

Kindly advise the best way to write so as not to present wrong information.

Thank you.

VO I have a question regarding B1/B2 Visa.

I don't know how to post a question on this blog.

My question is that I issued a B1/B2 visa to attend exhibition in usa sponsored by my employer, but I couldn't attend this

exhibition but due to work load in the company I couldn't go to USA to attend that exhibition. The primary

objective of this visa was "attending an exhibition", now I wanted to go to USA for tourism, my questions:

1-If unused B1/B2 visa not used for the primary purpose(to attend exhibition) it was issued can be use for tourism purposes?

2- Any issue(s) at POE by CBP officers if I use this visa for tourism purposes? or I have to present any

documents at POE?

3- In the past I have travel to USA two times first on B1 and then on B2

My B1/B2 visa has no Annotation (Annotation field is blank)

Can I use this B1/B2 visa for tourism purposes?

Hope you will give advice.

Regards,

Noman

Dear VO - AbujaNIV

I was issued a two year multiple entry B1/B2 visa in October 2014, due to expire October 2016. Given a family emergency I could not travel immediately as I initially planned.

I have now concluded plans to travel next month for a one month holiday. But i understand I was expected to have used the visa in the first six months of issuance. Is this correct? If so, what do I need to do to ensure a hitch free interaction with US Immigration officers at the POE?

Again, what are the likely implications of not using a valid visa before it expires? Should one expect any issue during application for renewal?

Thanks.

Hello nomannomi,

1) A B1/B2 is the appropriate visa for tourism
2) Yes it might raise an eyebrow at POE if you show up in a different town with a different travel purpose
