Hello and goodmorning to everyone in the house..

I have been an avid but silent follower and must admit that I have learnt alot during my time here.

I work for an Oil & Gas, (Energy Management) company here in Lagos and I wish to apply for a B1 Visa, after my previous F1 denial in May 2015. I was to go and study for my masters program in a University in Michigan but it didn't work out. So I applied to study for my MBA in Unilag and have since commenced studies.

I have searched for conferences on Power & Renewable Energy via a couple of conference websites, but the conference registration fees I see on there, is discouraging. As I cannot afford to spend $700 - $1000 to register for a conference and at the end of the day, the visa will not be approved.

There are conferences in Business Management (related with my MBA program) that are cheaper (and I can risk) but I as I have read on here, one must attend conferences that inline with one's career. So I don't know what to do now.

Can anyone advise of any link to get cheaper, more affordable conferences? Or generally advise on what I could do, based on my profile..

Thanks.

I'll implore you to keep checking until you find one which you can afford... Trust me, they are there.

And since you are more of a professional than a student now I'll advice you make it align with your job role than your MBA program.

The difficulty is convincing the visa officer that you will return home after your trip.
The American system presumes that you want to immigrate (so are ineligible.)
Unless you give strong ties to return.
Letter from employer, family and managing landed property help. As does a good healthy bank balance.

Single, no job, no money are bad things.
Much information here if you read back.
''

my case i have a good job..and i will return back after 2weeks. am just scared where by the VO would only ask are you single. no and the next thing will be you are not eligible. i have been following this thread from the previous thread.. i will give it a shoot

Verily i say unto you.... If you do the following you stand a 50% chance of getting your B1/Conference Visa.
- Be sure the conference aligns with your job role
- Be able to convince the VO about its relevance to your job
- Be fearless & smart or you loose out
- Stay away from agent
- Read other peoples transcripts here on this thread

Remember to comeback to share your transcript....

On a sad note.... RIP Olamuyiwa Osinuga AKA "Nomoreloss"

sure i will share my transcripts.

Personally I think those expensive conferences hold more water

Goodday all, My family want to visit US in August, we are myself and hubby. Three children.

Should we apply as a group?

How can we schedule our interview so that we all will go at once and be interviewed as a family?

While filling your form it will ask you if you applying as a group... select YES & input all.
While scheduling you should pick same day and time...

Go to https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx and search for the RETRIEVE MY APPLICATION tab, follow the questions and retrieve/correct your mistakes. Then, Call this number +23414406218 to reschedule & change the DS160 attached to your appointment profile (Note: you'll have to give them the new appointment confirmation number of the new ds160 you corrected).

Awaiting your transcript & testimony!

Google URtec 2016. It's coming up in August. You pay less than $100 if you are a SPE registered member.

@BenIyoha01 & LadyGuinivere, does the applicant really have to call or email to have this done going by the bolded? Methinks all kooljay5 needs to do is to edit profile by changing the DS160 number to reflect the new one filled and then reschedule the appointment date by self. Correct me if I'm wrong please. Or has times changed without me knowing?

Click on "create new application" and make amends as appropriate. Meanwhile, ensure and be quick to first copy down the new DS160 number before anything happens again as you tag along. That will be the new number to be used for your rescheduling of your appointment.

Oh, okay. Getting flashes now I think, I have come across something like this in 2012 or thereabouts. Why hoard such info na? People could be made to pay another mrv fee because of this oh. Do tell dude

That's the old skool method, the ustraveldocs site does not allow anyone to update their profiles themselves anymore... the only easy and fast way out is to call them to update it. The email thingy too works but they often don't reply your mail or it takes a longer time because they need some specific info from you to do the update which includes PASSPORT NO, NEW DS160 CONFIRMATION CODE, MRV N0, DATE OF BIRTH. it could be more or less but it's easily done when you call.

I think you din't do something right... retrieving and correcting is a possibility with DS160's. However, fill up another DS160 and use the method i stated to update the new ds160 you filled to your appointment confirmation.

Also inform them when you called that you wanna shift your date...

Goodluck bro...

On another sad note, RIP to all those who lost their life in Brussels today

@Omobendel
By your method the fellow has to cancel an existing appointment right? Then book a Fresh one abi?
Let's look at d down sides 1. Possibility of not getting that same slot 2. Possibility of being told u have exceeded ur mrv cancellation limit.

Seye, really? U can edit a submitted form? I await the lesson pls
