Believe me MS may not survive this bullshitt.
Imagine throwing x20 users under the bus!

The problem with this is W8.1 phones don't have any access to W10 apps, unlike android that still lets KitKat download maybe all the apps available.
Now developers no longer update their 8.1 apps, but only focus on W10 apps (eg. instagram)

That is the difference between the Microsoft situation and Android.

These people stood with you with their 1020, 920 etc. even when you didn't have basic stuff like a proper office app or notification center, only to tell them to fvck off or go buy new phones. grin

The irony is MS prides itself on being the OS with the longest support for smartphone updates, but the iPhone 4s got iOS 9 and it's 5 years old, but the x20 devices are not even up to 4 years yet.

Edit..
Some claim 512 ram can't run Windows 10, but the 920 1020 1320 928/5 are all 1gb ram devices but all jettisoned!
LG G pro runs a Krait S4 processor too and it has lollipop on it. (2013 phone)

I'm really upset with this development Elxandre. MS made a really shiity decision on this one.
You can imagine my annoyance when I found this great app I wanted only to see it was created specifically for Win10. Why must 8.1 and 10 have different apps? I don't understand this.

Then they say some of the older devices cannot be upgraded because it could affect users' experience. Bullshit. Why don't they let the users decide for themselves if they like the new experience or not?
They're just trying to throw 8.1 under the bus like they did the 7.8 (I think that's the OS on older Lumia devices). And it's unfair to people who have shipped them for so long.
Next thing we know they'll be trying to faze out all Lumia devices with the 'Nokia' brand on them.
Re: Windows Mobile Naija Forum by Elxandre(m): 12:21pm On Mar 20, 2016
Ujsizzle

At least your 930 is upgradeable. cool

The problem is what you just said.

Yes, Galaxy S5 won't receive Marshmallow, but even my brother's kitkat still has the latest instagram, has access to MS' own office apps, while still decent phones with even better hardware on W8.1 can't get any of these just because it won't get W10.

To make things worse, these devs will never update their 8.1 apps anymore till the end of time.
Do you seriously think many would recommend this platform to anyone?

The silly MS tech writers won't see this simple fact, but they'd instead go on a rant explaining rubbish.

Edit..
It was from W7-8.

They gave the agitated fellas 7.8 update, which ended up as their last update.
Nobody moved from 7 to 8.x, so this situation is still better.

Re: Windows Mobile Naija Forum by Unseen(m): 5:48pm On Mar 20, 2016
Elxandre:

Check if you can lock it through cellular+sim (not sure what it's now called)

It's now called Mobile+ sim and it's not possible to lock there

Go to All Setting - System - About - Reset phone

All apps will wipe and your Windows 10 will become fluid like..... Then you have to re install all apps and games again.

So after waiting for one year for windows 10, Microsoft cannot implement 3g only lock. That company is a disgrace to software developers. Foolish CEO with foolish team of quack engineers.

It should be an easy exploit to work out on W10, since it's now easier to install unsigned apps.

You'll aren't going to get apps on W8.1 anymore.
Many on 8.1 don't even know there is now a sweet official app for instagram on W10, but are still cussing Instagram in ignorance.

That's just an example.

You could be stuck on Kitkat on Android and not even give a damn.

It is a very simple problem with a simple solution. For now the 8.1 is still getting my jobs done,by the time it no longer does that I will just dump it and move to another os . I wasn't born with windows phone and so I am not stuck on it. Uf it works ,fine. Once it no longer works ,I dump it

it's same, no difference. Only thing is insiders get to use it first before it gets passed down to the masses. If you want to get back to official build just select production build in insiders app.

Apart from the sweet UI and the fluid like movements...... The rest are
All browsers Dey MUMU die except Microsoft Edge that is exceptionally superb

Microsoft Edge always logoffs on nairaland

Update is perpetually ON meaning more data.

Groove music the default music app is nice

Film and TV the default video player doesn't resume...... I didn't even bother to check if it can play various format

Ccplayer and Moliplayer can resume playback but start up time is slower now

UC browser downloads is same as before

Office is now sweet

WhatsApp UI now appears bigger....... Hoping for update soon

BBM seems like it's slightly better than before

There's a default torch light app in action centre

Etc.....

Unseen what's the camera like now? I went on another forum and learned that Movie moments and the rich capture features have been removed.
True?

If these guys aren't going to get their game straight I'll just sit comfy with my 8.1

Someone who has successfully done the upgrade shd please provide us with the following info to avoid errors:

1. is it best to perform a phone reset prior to the upgrade to avoid issues?

2. How long does it take for the upgrade to complete?

3. Does the new upgrade allow app/msgs/settings backup restore?

4. What mini/maxi volume of data is required for the upgrade?

Thank you

I read on a forum that a reset prior to the update (as opposed to after) is better.

That should be dependent on network strength I think. When I started mine within 15mins I had it 50% done. Just charge up and give your phone at least 1hr.

It's safer to backup on OneDrive before you begin.

Wat windows version is that? You could restart ur device; ensure your network is functional; try using wifi; try downloading xap files of d said apps then transfer to sd card via a pc and instal via windows store. These workarounds could help.
