Nice..

Sadly most of those kids are only interested in learning how to read and write enough to go to Aba and start business and start writing invoice and reciept.. grin

iKid,iKid!

I like what the Corper is doing. Its something I have also wondered as to why our teachers in Public schools have not employed this incentive based system of teaching rather than the punishment based system they currently run. Can you imagine if every term, there is a Grand Price for the Best performing Student from each class, best dressed, most punctual, Best behaved and the likes and they get to win interesting things that they would actually cherish ranging from a nice pair of sneakers to new school uniforms, bags, e.t.c.. Best Graduating gets like a Video Game for Boys or a nice 'WAREVER' for girls. The competition would be epic. The students would definitely respond positively to it. Alot of students who would have fallen by the way would be saved.

Eliminate Canes from our Schools and replace them with incentives and other forms of discipline and lets see how that plays out for us.

We as a people need to start taking our politics more seriously and vetting those we allow enter into power even harder

BUT! This Corper though;

The way God will bless u, will so much amaze u.ur effort will be rewarded.
Your action had really touched lives.

[Qquote author=DonDraper post=43905807]To begin with, I would like to thank GOD for a successful first edition of the spelling challenge and many more bigger ones to come.

Yesterday we held the finale of the first edition which was for JSS 3 and SS 1. After an intensive battle of brains, Uzoma and Chinemerem came out tops. Find pictures below.

Meanwhile, I have great news, the challenge is now spreading across Abia State. Another secondary school has agreed to host an edition for students. Our target is to organise the challenge in seven different schools across the state before POP.

Thanks for all the compliments and prayers *blushing*. Special appreciation to the Moderators for moving it to front page.

Hopefully, this thread will encourage enlisted and potential corps members to see the service as an opportunity to shine and give back to our nation. If you are blessed to be posted to a "remote" location like me, don't ask "ohh why me?" but say "try me!"...

DonDraper:
     Story about a Corper who was posted to Abia. When I saw the State in my call up letter my heart literally melted courtesy of previous stories. Strangely camp was interesting especially the "Ochendo Boys"....lol.
      After 3 weeks in camp I was posted to an Autonomous Community. When I got to the PPA, I just didn't want to go in because of the school's condition.
       Few months I fell in love with the students in the school even with no reason especially with their poor academic performance. I decided to think of a way out on how to help them. Then I came up with a "Base Word Spelling Challenge ".
      After much preparation the challenge went on with so much excitement from amongst the students, prizes were given  (one term scholarship,  school bags, books and pen).
ochendo boys were something else in camp. Abia rocks but me I don relocate go ekiti.
