I really need expertise on this matter. The issue I'm batteling is one that reocurred. My mechanic replaced the Dual Linear Solenoid (Flat Switch) of my transmission about 2 weeks ago. Prior to this, my gear wasn't changing appropriately. 2 days ago, I noticed leaks coming out of the
transmission and took the car back to the Mechanic to get it checked out. He noticed that the leaks were coming from the flat switch whgich was replaced.

Upon, sealing the leak, I left the workshop and barely 5 minutes later, my car refused to engage the second gear. Right now my mechanic is telling me that the switch hardly goes bad and he is very sure of the quality of the switch (Solenoid) that he purchased and my best bid right now will be to replace the transmission.

Attached is a picture of the solenoid which I think is responsible for this issue.

What year is your Vectra? It is easier to change from auto to manual, than the other way round.

What happened to the solenoid pack gasket? That is the correct seal to use! angry If your transmission worked well before the sealing, then the gum must have blocked a port during application, or some excess broken lose after, and did same thing. It should be an easy fix.

Let him clean the pack thoroughly and look for the gasket!

just for posterity and subsequent clarification.....
I relayed my a/t tranns issue sometime ago. wasn't entering last gear. did all I could do, even replaced tranny. didn't pan out. mechs didn't even know where to start solving the issue from. I got a scanner from konga, scanner read some codes indicating several issues, I saw one significant code indicating knocking sensor, tool it to a mechanic and had to get irate before the guy checked it out. it had no connection to it, the guy just carelessly took some wires and connected it.
no change still, got home and looked up the knock sensor wiring from ecm, took me up to 2hrs to connect properly and viola........ engine and car literally ran like new! FYI I changed all the wiring a month after, all codes except p1135 disappeared. still looking for where I can get the pre cat sensor. couldn't get it in owerri. anyone that can ship it for me will be appreciated.

Hi car doctor and gurus in the house.
My Camry 2000 is selecting/engaging only R while other gears are not engaging. My mechanic used dexron II instead of ty4.
The transmission auto Mech said he would replace the fiber instead if getting a new gearbox. What would you recommend?
Note: No check engine light came up and I don't know if the scan will show any code
Thanks

I have seen codes stored in ECU without the CEL on. Scan first. Did the failure come after the atf mix? How did it start?

One thing you should know for certain - changing the clutch friction (aka fibre) WILL NOT solve your problem.

Thanks for your response.
I smell the dip stick and it was smelling burnt oil. The failure started 2 days after the oil change. Had to call like 3 specialist(including gazzuz and car doctor) in gear and they told me it could be fiber burn. I took it to apo in Abuja and the gear box was dropped. The fiber was actually burnt. I want to buy a new gear box. What do you think?

A burnt clutch is just a symptom. Only two things will make a transmission mated to a stock engine and stock calibration to burn - crossleak and pressure drop. Don't bother with replacing the frictions without working on the valve body.

In summary, go ahead and buy a new-to-you transmission.

Thanks. I have replaced the gear box already.
Cost me 60k plus 1week warrantee. I have to drive it very well within that one week. It wasn't funny.

I own a Honda accord 2009 model. My battery got drained and I had to borrow another to start the car, then placed mine back (not jump starting).
Two to three days later, the Vehicle Stability Assistance (VSA) and hand break light came up on the instrument cluster. The car is moving fine, no dragging issue, as it should be if the hand break was on.
I have had d light cleared/Deleted but they came back on about 2hours later.
Please, the good people and car experts here, what could be the problem and its implications, and should be my fear?
HELP!!!!!

No but for older models, it will be cheaper to buy a used transmission. To repair a transmission properly, there must be a complete teardown, cleaning, replacement of bad parts, reaming of valve body bore(s) where necessary, etc. I would not do all those for 60K.

The major challenge is determining if the problem is internal or external of the box itself.

Hello Car Doctor

Pls i need urgent help and assistant. I drive a honda accord 2003 ex. I use to feel very lucky And i always praise the car because it has never disapointed Me.engine very sound and the gear very smooth u hadly notice when its selecting. Some times ago i was travelling then the car started jerking when i pressed the gas and the rpm reaches 3. But Any speed below rpm 3 it wont jerk though most times it wont jerk when the rpm gets to 3 and beyond..sometime it does.. I asked i was told it could be a sensor Problem.Well i had been driving it like that for a while now.. 2weeks ago i noticed the car makes an unusual Sound anytime its On N..but when i put to D or R it quiets Down but when i put to N the sound is high..(Guess it was a sign i dint notice>)Trouble stated a couple of days ago i noticed the car delayed to engage into the second gear I had to check to comfirm it was on D. When it eventually shifts to the second gear i noticed it wasent smooth it kinda breath, but the rest engages well. 3days ago i was driving only for me to press the gas and the car dint respond was jus Firing with out moving in one place. It later engaged in the gear but wasent able to shift to the second gear..It will seize again and then re-engage it self but wont shift to the second gear.i got a spot and parked. I called a mechanic the folowing day Which was yestaday and changeThe oil..it was burnt because i had not serviced it for a while ..he used an ordinary dextron3 oil for the service . He brough out the 2sensors and washed them wit fuel...after replacing them..it dint work instead the D on the dashboard started blinking it wasent before... It wont even engage in the gear again After the service. Now what could actually be the problem..can it be repaired and fixed. Or is replacing the gearbox the only option..Please respond. Hello Car doctor...

I'm currently using Mazda mpv , I have changed the gear box once because the car usually will just raised down when accelerating as if it is in neutral but the selector will be on drive. The gear has served for 2 years now and I have started experiencing the same problem.

Pls what might be the cause and the solution. Also, what's the best ATF for Mazda mpv 2002 model.

Thanks.

Hello guys I need your help.

I recently got my car engine (Honda civic 2004 model) washed some few days back. After about 10 mins drive from the car wash, I noticed that the car was not changing gears even with continuous revving.

I stopped by my mechanic's workshop only to be told that my gear oil compartment has been flooded with water. We got it drained (It was actually flooded) and replaced the oil but the problem persists.

The mechanic is already suggesting I buy a new gear box. Is there any solution? As I am still optimistic that there might be some solution.

What do you suggest. Experts pls help me out.

Someone says the solenoid should be serviced. Anyone with idea how these stuffs work?
Re: Automatic Gearbox Problems by ptoall1000: 8:30pm On Jun 21, 2016
If it uses sensors, you can change the sensor of the gear box
Re: Automatic Gearbox Problems by stpat1(m): 3:27pm On Jun 24, 2016
Thanks. The problem is that I suspect the mechanic doesn't have much experience regarding gear box and transmission problems. Compounded with the fact that I won't be able to drive to a far distance to have a more experience mechanic check it out.

Anyways, I'll try and guide him on what to do and where to check.

Thanks
