Siasiaset to unleash U23 stars against Egypt

Oghenekaro Etebo

Nigeria U23 stars Oghenekaro Etebo and Azubuike Okechukwu are set to start in today’s must-win AFCON 2017 qualifier against Egypt in Kaduna.

Etebo has dazzled in training to now be the only player from the domestic league to start against the seven-time African champions.

After a five-star showing at last year’s U23 AFCON in Senegal, the former Warri Wolves, who is set to move to Europe shortly, will play behind top striker Odion Ighalo as the Super Eagles gun for goals on Good Friday.

Ahmed Musa and on-form Victor Moses are most likely to form a lethal-looking strike force led by Watford star Ighalo.

Nigeria U23 skipper Azubuike Okechukwu looks set to take the place of Lazio defensive midfield ace Ogenyi Onazi, who is still serving out his three-match suspension.

The central defence has already chosen itself following injuries to Kenneth Omeruo and Leon Balogun as Efe Ambrose and Godfrey Oboabona will hold forte in the heart of the back four.

Shehu Abdullahi is most likely to be considered ahead of Etim Matthew of Enugu Rangers at right back, while the battle for left back is between the impressive Stanley Amuzie and the more experienced Elderson Echiejile from AS Monaco.

Likely Nigeria Starting XI against Egypt

EXCL: Victor Moses dropped, Moses Simon, Iheanacho start

Eagles star Moses Simon will start ahead of Chelsea loanee Victor Moses

Nigeria caretaker coach Samson Siasia has sprung a number of surprises for today’s must-win AFCON qualifier against Egypt by dropping Chelsea loanee Victor Moses to the bench, while starting youngsters Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon.

Victor Moses has been on superb form for both West Ham as well as in Eagles since he last featured for Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Siasia has instead of banking on the vision and dribble runs of Victor Moses, opted for the speed and directness of Kaduna-born Moses Simon to start against Egypt.

Manchester City starlet Iheanacho will get his first Eagles start.
As expected, Portugal-based Stanley Amuzie will start ahead of Elderson Echiejile of Monaco at leftback and Shehu Abdullahi will start at rightback.

Oghenekaro Etebo is the only player from the domestic league and he will play alongside skipper Mikel Obi in a withdrawn role in midfield.

Aaron Samuel gets all-clear for Egypt showdown

Eagles striker Aaron Samuel is fit to play

CSKA Moscow striker Aaron Samuel has shrugged off a slight training ground knock and will be available for selection for today’s AFCON qualifier against Egypt in Kaduna.

“The knock is nothing serious. He can play if he is selected,” said a team official.

“All the players are fit and it is up to the coaches to pick the team now.”

Samuel was the only injury concern for Nigeria leading up to today’s showdown.

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has equally recovered fully from food poisoning in training camp and has since trained fully with the rest of the squad.

He is now in line for his official debut for Nigeria after he switched his international allegiance from England.

Nigeria – Egypt Preview: Siasia faces crunch double-header

The Super Eagles face the Pharaohs in the first of two matches over four days as both sides hope to banish their recent Afcon qualifying failures
The biggest game in African football comes to the centre stage on Friday when Nigeria host Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna in the first of two 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

With 10 titles between them, Egypt have failed to qualify over the last three editions while Nigeria have missed out on two of the last three competitions.

Despite winning an unprecedented three titles back to back between 2006 and 2010, the Pharaohs have lost their invincibility leading to their absence from the tournaments in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Such is the fall from grace that Egyptian football has suffered that their legacy is almost forgotten.

Gone are the players from the golden era of Aboutreika and the Hassans, coach Hector Cuper had to call up veteran goalkeeper Essam El Hadary in order to remind the new crop of players about their glorious past.

The Egyptians have less pressure though as they lead Group G with six points, two more than their hosts.

On the other hand, Nigeria, winners of their third title as recently as 2013, have faced their own problems. Samson Siasia is the third coach since the Super Eagles began their Afcon qualifying campaign in June 2015.

The former striker took over in an interim role from Sunday Oliseh who unceremoniously resigned in February citing breach of his contract by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Super Eagles are in a precarious situation as they trail the Pharaohs and need to win to keep up their challenge for a place at Gabon 2017.

Both coaches would be calling on their top Europe-based stars for this game.

Nigeria have in tow Watford striker Odion Ighalo who has scored 14 goals thus far in the English Premier League. Siasia also has returnee Victor Moses and youngsters Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi to call on when things get tough. The experience of Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel will be key as the new team captain has spoken about leading by example.

The result of this game and the return leg could determine if Siasia gets to keep the job on a permanent basis.

While Cuper has only called up five players based abroad, the understanding of his core of Al Ahly and Zamalek players will be helped by the presence of Roma forward Mohamed Salah and hardworking new Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

With the Kaduna stadium expected to be filled by eager fans, this encounter promises much and it should deliver lots of fireworks.

Siasia needs Oliseh influence to vanquish Egypt

The two coaches have nothing in common, but the incumbent will hope that some of his predecessor's more pragmatic ways are not too quickly unlearnedCOMMENTBySolace Chukwu Follow on Twitter
Not for the first time, all the major subplots around a Super Eaglesfixture stem not from the opposition, but from within. Art – and football – imitates life, and so it is fitting that a nation racked by internal tensions often seems so desperate to grapple with its own shadow in the footballing arena.
The uncertainty regarding the role of head coach following Sunday Oliseh’s abdication a month prior was swiftly contained, and Samson Siasia will have the reins for both legs against seven-time African champions Egypt. The obvious question is whether, considering the limited preparation time available, how much of his style and ethos can he hope to impress upon this team?
In the interest of the nation could the Nff stop talking about Oliseh's resignation and concentrate on Egypt.Talk about looking for excuses!— Sunday Oliseh (@SundayOOliseh) March 18, 2016
Less obvious is the fact that there is no accompanying answer to the above question that totally assuages doubt. In truth, all things considered, it might not be crazy to suggest that, the less of his overall footballing outlook he passes on, the better the team might do.

To what extent will Siasia be able to implement his philosophy before the match against Egypt?
There is little convergence between how Oliseh and Siasia seek to play: the former – albeit with the benefit of a limited sample size – prioritized control and was often overly pragmatic, while the latter espouses a virile, cacophonous style of play with a strand of risk inherent.
Logically, a risk-averse strategy is better suited to games against big teams who are willing to impose themselves on the game, while carefree expressionism is infinitely more useful for blowing away smaller sides. It might explain why the Super Eagles struggled mightily against DR Congo, a primarily counter-attacking side, in October, only to dominate Cameroon a few days later.
Nigeria take step to banish Oliseh era as Mikel takes up captaincy of "new Super Eagles" https:// /FfOdYUg5v7 pic.twitter.com/tu1hN4sgSK— Lolade Adewuyi (@Jololade) March 24, 2016
In a game such as this, some of that solidity – soporific and staid as it was – would seem far more beneficial; Egypt have pace in attack, but are a side that seek to control the ball. However, another legacy of the previous regime is that Egypt come to Kaduna already holding the whip hand, by virtue of Nigeria’s draw away at Tanzania in September.
Consequently, a draw is a more palatable result for the Pharaohs than for the Super Eagles, and if indeed they will come seeking just that, then Siasia’s barnstorming attack would be perfect for breaking down a deep defence. In any case, what is needed is clear: Nigeria must take the game to the visitors.

Offensive stars such as Ahmed Musa will be charged with taking the game to the Pharaohs
Also implicit is that it is a game that will test the interim Super Eagles boss in a peculiar way.

His wilful insistence on the aesthetic often leaves his teams dangerously open, an effect complicit in his downfall in this same role in 2011; this is perhaps a legacy of his own playing days with the national team. That 1994 vintage has become somewhat romanticised with the passing of time—for all their brilliance in attack, it was a team with great defenders rather than a great defensive team.

It is under the former Nantes man that the Super Eagles have most closely approximated the attacking verve and swagger of the mid-90s. The trade-off is a defence that has to live by its wits at times, and defenders within the Siasia framework must be proficient in 1v1 situations, especially in wider areas.

In this sense, Leon Balogun is a huge miss at the heart of the defence; the Mainz man is laid low with injury, a most unfortunate recurring theme in his international career. Kenneth Omeruo is similarly hobbled, and so Efe Ambrose and Godfrey Oboabona will be tasked with keeping the back door securely shut, with Chelsea’s Lazarus and new captain John Obi Mikel, bidden to rise by the messianic Guus Hiddink, providing a calm base in midfield.

Congratulations to John Mikel Obi, the new captain of the Nigeria national side... https:// /nfNYdpfbxe pic.twitter.com/Hp52QO0tP2— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) March 24, 2016

Mikel |A pivotal figure both offensively and defensively for the Super Eagles

Victor Moses will finally have the chance to team up with the man who, according to reports, figured most prominently in his decision to pin his colours to the Nigerian mast. He will presumably feature wide in a 4-4-2, with the opposite flank manned by Moses Simon, one of the few rays of light for the national team in a bleak 2015.

There remain question marks over whether Odion Ighalo can finally graft his English Premier League form onto the national team, and who would be a suitable foil.

Kelechi Iheanacho seems to fit the bill to a tee, but it is unclear whether the coaching crew might not see value in replicating the brawny, selfless bustle of Watford team-mate Troy Deeney by playing Aaron Samuel alongside.

What is clear, however, is that a Siasia-led team will always make chances—the football under his watch is much too slick not to.

Inevitably, they will also give some up themselves; if the recent bluntness in attack is anything to go by, then ironically the influence of Oliseh is something the current regime must embrace rather than abjure.

One Super Eagles fan hopes to the his heroes destroy the visiting Pharaohs on Friday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. But is he asking for too much?

There were more than 1,500 fans that watched the Super Eagles train at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

One of them was very vociferous in his cheering of the players so we asked him for his expectation from Friday’s game against Egypt.

His predicted score is very interesting and outrageous. Watch the video below:

Kaduna’s 35 degrees heat to play major part in crucial Nigeria-Egypt encounter

The Super Eagles with a bulk of players based in Europe will face the added challenge of hot weather in Friday’s game against the Pharaohs.

There was soothing rain in Kaduna on Thursday evening promising to make Friday a cool day for good football.

According to AccuWeather.com, Friday’s weather in Kaduna will peak at 35 degrees Celsius.

Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has been worried about the heat in the northern city that usually climbs to 37 degrees by midday and around 34 degrees later.

“One thing we have to worry about is the heat,” said Siasia ahead of the game. “We need to make sure we run less and conserve our energy.”

The Pharaohs, who only arrived on Wednesday night, might suffer more from the heat as Cairo regularly sees average highs of 26 degrees Celsius.

“Sports persons are at risk of a range of heat disorders especially at this time of the year in Nigeria with daily temperatures rising to as high as 37 degrees Celsius or more,” Yetunde Tagurum, a consultant community physician at the University of Jos toldGoal.

“These heat disorders can be mild like heat cramps and heat exhaustion (due to excessive sweating) or more severe forms like heat syncope and heat stroke where in addition to loss of body fluids, core body temperature can rise to 41 degrees.

“Prevention is mainly through acclimatization training and taking of plenty fluids,” she said.

Both sides would have to ensure that there’s abundance of water for the players to cool themselves at every opportunity of the exciting encounter.

SIASIA’S MANY TOUGH DECISIONS VS EGYPT; CONGRATS, CAPTAIN MIKEL

By Nurudeen Obalola:

SIASIA’S MANY TOUGH DECISIONS AS HE FACES EGYPT
As I’m writing this, I’m imagining myself in Samson Siasia’s shoes.
While I would definitely not mind being paid the millions he gets paid every month in salaries, allowances and bonuses (when he does get paid by the NFF), I wouldn’t want to face some of the tough decisions he will be facing right now.

Siasia might be Super Eagles coach just on an interim basis, but he must get things right.
It is his second shot at redemption after the pains of failing to lead the team to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, and he has to get his tactics and selection right.

The only acceptable result against Egypt this Friday evening in Kaduna is a win, even as everyone knows the North Africans are not going to just roll over and accept defeat.

So Siasia, obviously eager to win and put himself in the frame for the job on a permanent basis, must right now be wondering if the approach he has settled on is the winning one, or if the team he has picked is the right one.

Is it preferable to go on the attack from the off to unsettle the Egyptians? Or why not be patient, draw them out of their shells and then pounce from around the hour mark?

What formation is the best to deal with Egypt’s expansive, speedy football? Should it be a cautious 4-5-1 to take control of the midfield? Or an open 4-4-2 to keep the pressure on the Egyptians from the wings? Or a 4-3-3 with the three forwards seamlessly interchanging positions?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.
And it does not end there.
Siasia has to somehow keep out the freescoring Egyptians with a patched-up defence. The Nigeria coach has been shorn of the services of regular defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Leon Balogun through suspension and injury.

So who pairs Godfrey Oboabona in central defence? If it’s Efe Ambrose, who then plays right-back? Does vastly experienced Elderson Echiejile keep his place at left-back or does Siasia go with his U-23 favourite Stanley Amuzie?

Where does Mikel Obi play in midfield? Will Siasia retain him in the deep role he plays at Chelsea or deploy him further forward like at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup?

How about the attack? Will Odion Ighalo play as a lone striker in a 4-5-1? Or will he be paired with Fanendo Adi in a 4-4-2?

If Siasia goes 4-3-3, who will be the wide forwards to complement Ighalo among Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa?

Who will play the No10 role if it is not given to Mikel?
How many home-based players will start and how many will be in the matchday squad?
What will be the strategy with Iwobi as England lurk? Will the Arsenal teenager be given minutes to tie him down to Nigeria even if the Eagles are hanging on and would rather make a defensive change late on?

Siasia has loads of tough calls to make this Friday and next Tuesday. It’s all on him whatever happens, the buck stops at his table; so he has to get everything right.

If he can’t score a perfect 10, he must get at least eight out of 10.
A perfect 10 would be getting the mix of youth and experience right, beating Egypt while playing attractive football, and capping Iwobi to keep the teenager from the clutches of England.

An eight would be beating Egypt anyhow and somehow finding some minutes for Iwobi.
Maybe a seven would be acceptable, that is playing badly but winning, even if it’s through an added time winner off the backside of Ighalo.

The task before Siasia is not an easy one. Apart from his pay, I don’t envy the man and the enormous pressure that comes with his position.

SUPER EAGLES BETTER WATCH OUT FOR TANZANIA

SUPER EAGLES BETTER WATCH OUT FOR TANZANIA
While the Super Eagles have been busy worrying about how to catch up with Egypt and nick Group G’s sole guaranteed ticket to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Tanzania have sneaked up on them.

If the Eagles did not realise how important it was to win against Egypt, they surely now do with the Taifa Stars now clearly in their (Nigeria’s) rearview mirror.

Tanzania’s win over Chad on Wednesday means Nigeria must beat Egypt on Friday to stay well clear of the East Africans.

Now tied on four points with Tanzania, the match in Kaduna serves as Nigeria’s game in hand.

A game in hand that must now be won if the Eagles don’t want to keep looking over their shoulders.

Chad have lost all their three matches in the qualifiers so far, so they will be expected to lose again to Tanzania when they meet next week.

If Tanzania win again, they will end this round of games with seven points from four matches. The Super Eagles currently have four from two matches and therefore need at least four from the two matches against Egypt not only to upstage the Pharaohs, but to also hold off Tanzania.

Anyway, whatever the outcome of the next few games, Tanzania have got themselves in the mix and the race has just got that little bit more exciting.

CONGRATULATIONS, CAPTAIN MIKEL OBI
Mikel Obi has looked like Super Eagles captain material for a few years.
Even if his discipline and performances sometimes can be questioned, he always looked like a leader on the pitch and his colleagues always had serious respect for him.

Apparently, playing for a big club like Chelsea for such a long time counts, and he has been in the senior Nigeria squad for 10 unbroken years.

Right now, he is the most experienced Super Eagles player around and it is fitting that he has finally been named captain.

He looked odds-on favourite to be captain after Vincent Enyeama, but the controversy surrounding the Lille goalkeeper’s exit from the national team and Sunday Oliseh’s preference for an easygoing, not headstrong player meant Ahmed Musa was given the armband.

Mikel handled the situation perfectly when he was overlooked for the captaincy and Musa has also been very gracious as he let go of the armband after his short tenure.

Some insist that Musa should never have been captain but I believe it is up to the head coach to determine who captains the team. Most of us don’t know what goes on behind the scenes that informs some of the decisions coaches take.

The good news to Nigerian sportswriters is that the normally reticent Mikel will now, as captain, have to speak with reporters regularly.

Hopefully, Mikel’s tenure will see Nigeria qualify for the Nations Cup.

Film Trick! Asiegbu Tips Eagles To Dazzle, Beat Egypt; Urges Enyeama, Emenike Recall

By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Nollywood star actor Ejike Asiegbu hopes Nigeria's Super Eagles will come unscathed in their double 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Pharaohs of Egypt today (Friday) and Tuesday in Alexandria, Completesportsnige ria.com reports.

Interim coach, Samson Siasia, will lead the Nigerian side in the crucial games against the North Africans.

Asiegbu, a passionate Super Eagles supporter spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on his thoughts on two-legged confrontation.

"Talking about the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, I'm a bit cautious with our preparations as we have derailed in the past.

"Anyway, I expect to see the likes of new captain Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Moses and Ahmed Musa to play their best football in the national team in these two matches. We know the importance of wins against the Egyptians," the former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria told Completesportsnigeria.com.

The veteran actor further reiterated that Samson Siasia was the right choice made by the Nigeria Football Federation to coach the national following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh.

"Samson Siasia has shown consistency in the understanding of his boys and so I expect a win for Nigeria with a 2-1 victory for us at home and a draw away in Egypt. I commend the NFF for that, though NFF issues is a matter for another day.

"Siasia has been there before, though with not too good results. This time, he wouldn't want to make the same mistakes," Asiegbu, a Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Port Harcourt stressed.

Asiegbu then further expressed his belief that the Super Eagles still need the experience of the duo of Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike who have retired from the national team.

"Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike left because of Sunday Oliseh's unbearable attitudes towards them and could still be persuaded to return to the Super Eagles. We still need their experience," Asiegbu maintained.

"We need to turn around things if we want to take our place in the comity of nations by restoring our pride in football.

"We made an Olympic record in Atlanta '96. The Super Eagles were feared and respected and our FIFA ranking was 5th in the World and 1st in Africa after the 1994 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia. We should be striving to return to that kind of glory," Asiegbu concluded.

The Nigeria versus Egypt game kicks off 5pm Nigerian time this evening at the Ahmedu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Iheanacho Confident of Starting Shirt against Pharaohs

Manchester City and Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho is very confident Nigeria will come out victorious in the double fixture Africa Nations Cup qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Iheanacho who was an unused sub in Nigeria’s 2nd leg World Cup qualifier against Swaziland, said he was looking forward to picking a starting shirt in today’s match.

The 19 years-old striker said, “No doubt the game will be tough, but by God’s grace we shall obtain the maximum points.

“I am fit and ready to start the match. I hope the coaching crew will consider me for the game.

“We know that the Pharaohs are good as most of their players are doing well in Europe and at home, but I am sure we will be victorious at the end of the game.

“There will be pressure from the fans which is normal in a match of this magnitude, but I urge them to be calm, even when the goals are not coming early.

“We know Nigerian fans are very passionate about the Super Eagles, but the Nations Cup is equally important to us. We know that we cannot afford to lose this opportunity, not after we were absent at the 2015 edition held in Equatorial Guinea.”

AF Nigeria 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers - Africa Egypt
What can Siasia do for Nigeria?

As we know, the Nigerian Football Federation named Samson Siasia as the caretaker coach for the Super Eagles, and is that news? of course it is.

Aaron Samuel cleared for Egypt cracker
Many Nigerians have been questioning the choice by the football federation of Siasia. Why him and not others?

Most importantly, he has progressed through the national age-group coaching categories culminating in winning the U23 AFCON in 2015.

He was obviously appointed under duress when their former marriage of convenience with Sunday Oliseh crashed sooner than expected, as I earlier predicted.

Let me take you further down the memory lane - Siasia was a coach of the Super Eagles at a time, and was sacked when he could not take Nigeria to the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

I remember vividly when we suspected a possible sabotage by players who were not happy with him as a coach, playing a draw in an all-important game against Guinea, hence our failure to qualify in Abuja.

Siasia is no doubt a disciplinarian, he is tough on his players, a man-manager who knows his onions, but he could be arrogant. Yes I said it! Siasia is arrogant. In actual fact arrogance used positively can only be of benefit on the long run.

So, arrogance is allowed.
I know a lot of players find him challenging, but rightly, no player is bigger than Nigeria, we are a people of over 170 million, so a player who is not ready to be humble and follow his coaches’ instructions can step aside for others to come in.

As it is, Siasia has inherited a damaged, battered and dispirited Super Eagles from Sunday Oliseh and the NFF.

Our once-upon-a-time darling national team are now commonly called ‘Super Chickens’.
Eagles and chickens all na bird, one can soar and the other is lame, lol!

Looking at the list of invited players for the Egypt match, my confidence was lifted and I was happy as I am sure so too many patriotic Nigerians.

I really don’t know why but I believe in those boys. Watching them train in Abuja, I saw a team who are ready to win, a team who are hungry, players who want to make individual mark by justifying their invitation and living up to expectations.

Siasia is not perfect, no one is – Jose Mourinho’s travails at Chelsea are a testament to that, but without a doubt in my opinion, he is a good coach.

He is vocal, he knows his onions, he cannot be dribbled around, and also he knows how to play the politics of working with those NFFMafiosos– that’s all.

We should not expect magic from him overnight, Nigerians should be patient and let him be, let him work and I seriously hope the NFF will not bring a foreign coach as we know that is the least of our worries. They are even broke, so how can they afford an expatriate coach?

The big questions are: Can Siasia lead Nigeria to AFCON? Is he the Messiah we have been waiting for since the exit of Keshi from the national team? Can he beat Egypt home and away?

Yes, I believe we can defeat Egypt and why not? At the end of the day, it will be 11 players versus 11 players.

However, if Nigeria do not qualify or beat Egypt – God forbid - Siasia should not be blamed for he inherited a disorganised and divided team.

Blame the NFF who in the first place installed a rookie coach to continue the qualifying campaign for AFCON 2017.

I think the reason Sia 1 selected simon over victor was d ability to score free kick ,interns of spread the both have good spread and good crossing ability , even dribbles , but sometimes victor over dribbles . Nice line up though

A love letter to John Obi Mikel: Chelsea cult hero he finally gets recognition he deserves as Nigeria captain

Nazar Kinsella

Dear John Obi Mikel,
Or is it Mikel John Obi? I wanted to tell you how much I love you.
Your humble words upon receiving captaincy sum you up: “I want to promise you that I would not let you down.”

I think it is great that you have finally been recognised for your services to football as the captain of the Super Eagles.

You will also be presented with an award with Nigeria on a truly Good Friday but I know it isn’t the spotlight that interests you.

You look great in green or blue but not in red, and how we all laughed when you rejected Manchester United for West London.

You have more trophies than Steven Gerrard with two league titles, four FA Cups, two Capital One cups, a Europa League and Champions League to boot!

You never complain but I know the Blues give you a hard time now and again. We saw you in all your glory against Crystal Palace and know your hard work is never in vain.

We know you are the master of keeping possession, reaching a pass accuracy of 90.7%. That is more than any Chelsea player, even though many are sideways or backward.

Your father runs a transport company and you certainly have a good engine. You are the man we call African Zidane.

A man who can score against Paris Saint-Germain. After John Terry you are the longest serving blue and if he leaves it will be too painful to lose you.

Please convince Antonio Conte that we need you. After 10 years of service a divorce would be too painful.

We will be at your testimonial and you could be the last of the originals from the Jose Mourinho faithful.

HOW SIASIA REACTED TO JOURNALIST WHO QUESTIONED MIKEL’S NEW ROLE AS CAPT

Coach of the Super Eagles Samson Siasia reacted angrily to a journalist who questioned the choice of John Obi Mikel as captain.

The Super Eagles manager while defending Mikel whom the journalist accused of not being fit enough to captain the team based on his ego.

Siasia angrily collected the microphone during the press conference and out rightly told the journalist he was taking his person problem with Mikel to judge the Chelsea star.

He angrily lambasted the said journalist terming his comments as stupid and unwarranted because the Chelsea midfield treats people how they treat him.

It didn’t end there as after the press conference Siasia was taking pictures with journalist the same man came up again which drew angry response from the Eagles manager who was held away from tearing into the journalist.

AHMED MUSA: I WAS WRONGLY MADE CAPTAIN

Former captain of the Super Eagles Ahmed Musa says he was not suppose to have been made captain of the team in the first place.

Answering questions from journalist shortly after announcing he is stepping down as captain of the team for John Obi Mikel the 23 year old CSKA Moscow forward faulted the decision of former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh who made him captain.

Mikel and Musa both grew up in Jos,Plateau state and as at when the world came to the attention of the talent of the Chelsea man,Musa was still playing street football.

“I want us to put aside what has happened in the past that lead to my being made captain of the team but I can’t be captain of a team when I have senior player in the team like Mikel” He said.

“It doesn’t really matter who is captain as the most important thing is for the team to win and am very happy to contribute my quota either as captain or not”.

Our attackers are too stretched out. Coach Siasia and his crew should advise the attackers to drop a bit deep to coordinate with the midfield and Wingers.

If we stay stretched out, the midfield will have a tough time getting the ball to the strikers. If the strikers get the ball more often, they will blend into the game and draw the Egyptian defenders out of their position.

It's a bit disappointing..... but they played well!
I strongly believe the Eagles will fly and soar high in Egypt on Tuesday (Night)!

My gen went off just before the equalizer. What happened? Coach Siasia should learn to respect his opponents. His three changes were attacking changes. Aminu, Moses and Iwobi. He did not think of bringing in another defensive to secure the win

Iwobi's change was okay to secure him but we should have gone 4-5-1 and brought in a defensive midfielder instead of Aminu.

Any one who thinks Ighalo is a liability to the squad. He just seems lost in the team. He hardly offered any threat.
