Your Excellency,
It is with heart full of surprises that I write to express my worries on the recent happenings in our dear state owned University. I can vividly recall that some years ago, you gave indigenous Imostars a waiver on their Tuition fee payment. This did not only see to the relief given to the downtrodden and the poorest of the poor in our society whose children were compelled in some past administrations to engage with all kinds of activities just to make ends meet but lose interest in tertiary education which was highly not affordable to many of them.
.
The jubilation was high upon your declaration of the tagged "free education" amidst the terms and services surrounding it on campus and as well its challenges facing the state government. Ever since then, alot of our students have been writing their examinations without distractions and restrictions from the University management in the examination hall. The "NO SCHOOL FEES, NO EXAM" syndrome which has long existed on campus was therefore suspended and students all chanted THANK YOU OWELLE, commander of free education.
.
The most interesting part of this tuition fee waiver declaration on Imo state owned tertiary institutions is that it seems to have long existed as a burning desire in your heart to empower every promising Nigerian child academically regardless of their family background. Even when many imolites saw and criticized the irregularities surrounding the faulted "total free education" which was extended to non indigenous students as later declared by you, You remained resolute and consistent in living up to expectations by funding the University and as well paying IMSU STAFF their salaries as at when due and therefore changed the funny IMO STRIKE UNIVERSITY back to IMO STATE UNIVERSITY.
.
Just few days after some Imo stars trooped out en mass to appreciate your kind gesture towards them in your continued free education policy in the state, they came back to their respective departments to notice their hunger stricken lecturers were already burning to shut down the school due to non payment of their deserved salaries. This did not go down well as the Management had already scheduled their 7th convocation ceremony. While everyone managed to pretend as if all is well just to give our Alumni a resounding welcome back and also give you our amiable governor and visitor to the University a cheerful face while you were around, we were all hopeful that you will put a smile on our faces by paying our lecturers their overdue salaries.
.
To our greatest surprise, Non Indigent Imo stars were struck with shock 48hours after their thank you visit to you was rewarded with a memo released by the University registrar revealing the impromptu hike in their school fees to N150,000, N180,000 and N190,000 respectively. As if it was not enough, the aggrieved Students who were already in the background to protest and disrupt the convocation ceremony were calmed down by members of the Students Union Government ably led by the President, Sen Nwanna Emeka with the assistance of the University Librarian Prof. Okey Okoro.
.
Today, While our non indigent students are boiling and planning on shutting down the state, our newbies, the freshers on campus, our dearly beloved 100 level students are wallowing in bitterness and insecurity with regrets and disappointments as their lecturers have embarked on an indefinite strike action leaving their faith of writing their first semester examination in your hands, the commander of free education. Needless do I hide the fact that these your children are being robbed and molested on daily basis as their seniors have all vacated their hostel premises to their respective homes.
.
Your Excellency, If the Children of the poorest of the poor must go to school and graduate as at when due as your policy in the academic world stipulates, then the salaries of their teachers should be paid and as at when due too. Just some hours ago, Some robbers were caught trying to steal from our students who were mostly 100 level students residing at OGIDI Hostel, Bishop's court alliance. All thanks to the Alliance President Comr Christinno Okafor who has relentlessly fought insecurity and lack of power supply in the alliance to a standstill. We cannot afford to answer half baked graduates as this indefinite strike action lingers! We therefore call on you to use your rescue mission mighty powers which have been working for you in the past to expedite action that will see to the end of this lingering industrial strike action as soon as possible. Yes! It is excellence in service. You cannot outshine an Imo Star!
.
God Bless Imo State.
God Bless Imostars.
God Bless Imo State University.
