You gave me Channels and Silverbird, hence my using them as yardsticks. When I brought Jones to the discource, I told you he has over 40 years experience. This will tell you that he started broadcasting before the FG took over state-owned stations in 1976-7.

We all know Mr. Jones. So because a veteran is with TVC, i should go with them My former boss is there too. So?? I have to be objective and professional.

Apart from her LinkedIn account, I can't find any other thing about her. Even at that, it's only Minaj I saw in it.

Have you heard of Citizen Jones Usen, called the man with "golden voice" during the 1985 youth football world cup in China. He has over 40 years experience in radio broadcast. He currently works in Radio Continental. Let me listen to one of live programmes, Kobanji Direct (7-8pm, Mon to Fri).

Stella Din was probably the best newscaster on Channels TV when they started. She was one of the pioneer staff of SilverBird TV and then she moved on to one other new station (it seems she has a habit of working in brand new stations) before she established her own outfit.

Kubanji Direct! That's named after Momoh Kubanji. You've just reminded me of some of the greatest presenters on Radio Nigeria 2 (especially) and 1.

RN2

Willy Egbe (Your Willing Willy. Willy Brunch)

Sunny Irabor (Sunnyside Up)

Ohi Alegbe

Jones Usen

Ihria Enakhimio (this man almost made me die of laughter with the satirical way in which he insulted Babangida and Akpamgbo on radio after the annulment of the June 12 election)

Joseph Akinyemi Johnson (JAJ)

Aloma Nwogbe (police diary on Saturday mornings. Why would they air a show that begins with martial music very early in the morning? Don't they know that people might think that there's a coup?)

Boniface Onogwu (Boni With The Face)

Godwin Asuquo

Ndidi Osaka (I Beg Una)

Femi Sowoolu

Phil Ushie

Jim Lawson Maduike

Vin Martin Ilo

RN 1
Zachary Mohammed (Captain ZM)

Manny Onumonu

Evelyn Russel

Veronica Osawere

Of course there were also the legends like Ikenna Ndaguba, Princess Banke Ademola, Christopher Kolade and the doyen of comedy in Nigeria - John Chukwu.

@OrlandoOwoh. I'm trying to remember the name of a particular RN2 presenter, but I just can't seem to remember it. I can still hear his voice saying things like Governor Melford Okilo and I can remember some of the RN2 jingles that he did, but I just can't remember his name. I think I've written his name on nairaland before, but I couldn't find it with the search tool. But I found something else that I posted before and I think you'll love this.

This is a short documentary about Radio Nigeria 2, Martin Street, Lagos.

(There's a radio station that's got it all,
There is no doubt.
Radio Nigeria 2 is the name,
Check us out.

Ikenna Ndaguba's accent was just unique. Watching him as MC during state functions in Aso Rock was always a delight. May his soul rest in peace.

It's either you're beginning to like me or you don't like me at all. I don't discuss for long on this site. Use your dictionary for the word veteran.

Moreover not all people in the media must read news to be a veteran. We are the back end staff; producers, News Editors, etc. Stella was like that and also a core reporter!
I don't hate you. Do you know Kunle Olasope, the first man to appear on TV in Africa? He is still alive.

It still surprises me why any of the privately owned TV stations is yet to use him to anchor some programmes, David Frost on Aljazeera. He still maintains that he was frustrated out of broadcasting Vincent Mmaduka.

It's a norm. We don't recognize our own. By the time we ship his report abroad, newspapers here will carry the story. So sad. Doesn't it happen in football too? Maybe one day when I'll have a TV station, I'll use more of veterans.

There are people that would argue that the young ones are not given the opportunity to thrive. I still like to Sadiq Daba on the screen.

Yea, but a mixture will not be bad. Though there might be conflicts. Then, Stella was teaching us a lot of paper work, but now, everything is computerized. Some of them don't even like using teleprompters... lolzzzz.

His diction was perfect. They often paired him and Ali Baba during state functions when Obasanjo was president.

There was a day in the late '80s or early '90s when I heard Ikenna Ndaguba read the 6am news and Princess Banke Ademola read the 7am news. For a second I thought that there was some kind of national emergency (maybe even a coup), because they were both senior executives by this time and had stopped presenting programmes long before then. I later found out that the junior staff were on strike.

His son was my friend (Do you know that Princess Banke Ademola is Justice Adetokunboh Ademola's daughter?).

Apart from Walter Oyatogun, whose daughters, Moyo and Mofe, are into broadcasting, do you know any other veteran?

TV.
When it comes to getting news, those in radio are always fast. While TV journalists, mostly, look for their cameramen in order to report or cover, say, victims of an accident; the radio journalists just dip their hands in their pockets to get their tape recorder or phones.

I don't know him. Could it be Bisi Olatilo? I wondered how radio journalism was then, when he once said that "before you could come on air to say this is Radio Nigeria, the time is . . . , you would have undergone series of training."

When I hear the diction of veterans on radio, considering the fact that most of them didn't have university training, I imagine the rigourous training they underwent in the radio school at Shogunle, Lagos.
