Abdullahi..Ambrose..Obaobona..Echiejile

................Onazi

Moses...........Iwobi........Simon

...............Iheanacho

Nigeria are known to perform well in big games.I still believe the boys can do it. We go for a win in the battle of Alexandria!

It is as if we are on the same wavelength. Okay close.

We need Onazi's tenacity to help deal with Salah. Whether it is Amuzie or Echiejile the coaching crew chooses, Onazi is key in neutralizing Salah.

I chose Musa ahead of Moses because I feel Musa offers more goal threat. That was a selection Headache because of the way Victor Moses weaved his way repeatedly through the Egyptian defence.

Iwobi certainly will do even better in the cool whether of Alexandria and the better pitch. I feel his passes is essential to unlock the Egyptian defence.

I am shocked you also dropped Ighalo. I know you as a strong supporter of experience but I think you noticed that we need a more coherent performance than an individual style up front.

‘ S/Eagles attack was not on point,’ Fanendo Adi speaks on Egypt draw

A defensive blunder helped Egypt earned a point against Nigeria in Friday’s first leg tie of the Afcon 2017 qualifier, but poor finishing did the team in according to striker Fanendo Adi.The Eagles invitee was not named in the match day squad by Samson Siasia but Odion Ighalo, who led the team’s attack, was cold on the day and threatened the Pharaohs’ defence very little.

Adi, 25, stressed that the Eagles attack was ‘ not on point’ and that factor was the bane of the team throughout the game.

Siasia used up all his substitutions including effecting 2 attacking changes late on in the game while Nigeria led 1-0.

Eguavoen blames wrong tactics for Eagles 1-1 result in Afcon qualifier

Former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen has picked holes in the decision to go all out against Egypt towards the end of the game rather than get players behind the ball and see the game out.Super Eagles conceded a late equalizer which further tips qualification for the African Cup of Nations slightly off balance.

Eguavoen maintains that the Eagles could have earned all three points on the day and remains confident the race is still open for Samson Siasia’s men.

A member of Nigeria’s 1994 Afcon title winning Eagles, Eguavoen also expressed disappointment at ‘certain big name players’ who couldn’t provide the team with goals.

Siasia started Watford FC forward, Odion Ighalo, CSKA Moscow’s Ahmed Musa and KAA Gent’s Moses Simon in the 3-man attack, but the team’s goal came off the boots of 20 year-old unattached midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo and Eguavoen rued Nigeria’s lack of precision in front of goal.

However, it was not all gloom and doom for the Eagles in Eguavoen’s eyes as he saved some praise for the team’s shot stopper, Carl Ikeme for 2 point blank saves to keep Nigeria from trailing Egypt early on in the game.

He declared that the team was ‘still very much in the race’ to qualify for Afcon 2017 and put up an impressive performance.

Efe Ambrose upbeat ahead of Egypt trip

Efe Ambrose has come under fire for a few sloppy moments in the Eagles defence against Egypt but the 27 year-old remains upbeat about the team’s chances and ability to return stronger in Alexandria. The Scotland based defender was in the heart of the Eagles back four where he endured a few difficult moments trying to keep the counter attacking waves of the Pharaohs at bay.

Egypt capitalized a split moment of a loss of concentration to tie the game at 1-1 in Kaduna.

Speaking after the game, Ambrose said: ‘ we still thank God because the most important thing that we’ll take the game to Cairo (Alexandria).’

Oghenekaro: We showed class in the second half

Nigeria’s window of getting Group G’s sole ticket to the 2017 Afcon is creaking shut after the Eagles failed to close the differential with Egypt who maintain their 2 points gap on the table.Mohammed Salah cancelled out Oghenekaro Etebo’s 61st minute opener, and though Victor Moses could have doubled for the home side, Hamada Tolba’s last gasp goal line clearance denied Samson Siasia a winning return to the team.

Nonetheless, it was a good night for the former Warri Wolves midfielder, Etebo; who scored on his international debut. It was a half chance, but he arrived at the right moment and was calm enough to tuck the ball in as Kelechi Iheanacho’s volley ricocheted off the cross bar.

In a chat with footballlive.ng, the 20 year-old has his sights set on a win in the second leg, and hopes the players turn up with the same gusto which they attacked Egypt in the second half.

Nigeria will face Egypt March 29 for the last time in the qualifying rounds of the Afcon.

Mikel says he won't commit on Chelsea future

Mikel

Nigeria skipper Mikel Obi has said he remains open about his future at English champions Chelsea.

“Let’s wait and see. If I get to move in the summer, fine, if I stay, it’s good,” he said while on international duty this week with his country.

“Eleven years (at Chelsea) is a long time during which I have won everything at the club.

“We are now trying to see we get back to our normal selves and next season, the club will make changes in the summer, so we have to wait and see what happens.”

Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 after he had controversially first agreed to join Manchester United.
He still has a year left on his contract at ‘The Blues’ as speculations rage on about his future at the club.

It is widely believed he is eyeing a big-money move to secure the financial future of his partner and his daughters.

Oil-rich Dubai, Turkey and lately China have been mentioned as possible destinations for the 28-year-old midfielder.

2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers| Zamalek

Abiodun Baruwa warns Eagles against Egyptian fans

Egyptian fans

Former Nigeria international Abiodun Baruwa has charged the Super Eagles to remain focused on the pitch and not take notice of the loud and intimidating Egyptian fans when they tackle the home team in Alexandria on Tuesday night.

After they failed to get a much-needed victory in Kaduna on Friday, Nigeria will be seeking a win in Alexandria on Tuesday so as to get their AFCON 2017 campaign back on course as they still trail the Pharaohs midway through the qualifiers.

Baruwa, who is now a UEFA certified coach, was in goal for Shooting Stars in the final of the 1996 CAF Champions League against Egypt’s Zamalek, said Egyptian fans will be loud and intimidating but Eagles should not pay attention to them.

Zamalek and Shooting Stars played out a 3-3 draw after two legs with the Egyptians edging past their Nigerian rivals 5-4on penalties.

"Trust me, it's football where anything can happen. They just played 45 minutes as far as I am concerned,” he said.

"Egyptian fans will be so loud and intimidating supporting their team, they get behind their team like never seen before, but if Eagles hold their nerves and play according to their plans they should win.

“They have to be more than 100% focused and neglect the fans, who will come out in large numbers, but the Eagles must not lose concentration."

It is expected that as many as 20,000 fans will be allowed into the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria to cheer Egypt to victory on Tuesday.

Siasia Set To Start Moses, Bench Iheanacho Vs Egypt In Alexandria

By Adeboye Amosu:
Nigeria caretaker coach, Samson Siasia, will reshuffle his starting eleven in Tuesday’s crucial return leg fixture against the Pharaohs of Egypt, Comple tesportsnigeria.com can report.

The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by the North Africans in the first leg of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Sunday.

Siasia handed left-back Stanley Amuzie his debut, overlooking the more experienced Elderson Echiejile, while youngster Kelechi Iheanacho made his first start in the game.

Both struggled to make an impact in the game and while the former spent the entire 90 minutes on the pitch, Iheanacho was substituted by Aminu Umar in the second half.

Although Manchester City starlet Iheanacho had a hand in Nigeria’s goal when his shot rebounded for Oghenekaro Etebo to steer in, his overall performance was not satisfactory, Comple tesportsnigeria.com was told.

A reliable source within the team told Comple tesportsnigeria.com that the coach is already considering starting some of his experienced and well established stars for the must-win clash in Alexandria.

“Some of the boys failed to live up to expectations in the first leg and the coach is seriously thinking about making changes in the second leg,” the source informed Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

“Victor Moses and Aminu Umar who did well when they came on as substitutes have put themselves in good position to start the game.

“Don’t forget Ogenyi Onazi who was suspended for the first game will be available again which is a big plus for us.

“There will also be some changes in the defence as we need to keep things tight this time around as we expect the Egyptians to be more attack-minded at home.

The Super Eagles who trail Egypt by two points must win the game in Alexandria to boost their chances of making it to Gabon 2017.

Cuper Praises Tolba For Crucial Clearance, Shocked By Kaduna Crowd

By Adeboye Amosu:
Pharaohs head coach Hector Cuper has admitted Hamada Tolba’s well timed clearance from Victor Moses’ goal-bound shot was the turning point in his side’s 1-1 draw against Nigeria, reports Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

Moses who came on as a second half substitute for Ahmed Musa in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna almost doubled the Super Eagles advantage in the game after dribbling past the Egyptian goalkeeper, with the 34-year old Tolba making a last ditch effort to prevent the ball from going into the net.

And the Argentine has nothing but praise for the defender who has been constantly criticised by the fans and the media.

“Hamada Tolba’s save was a turning point in the game,” Cuper told the media on his team’s arrival in Alexandria.

“I didn’t choose Tolba to challenge the media and the fans.
“Tolba may be 34 years old, but he has superb physical ability that will continue to prove useful to the team.”

The former Valencia boss also stated that he has never seen a large turn out of fans like the one he witnessed at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

“I have never witnessed this number of fans on the track of a pitch in my life which is dangerous but the fans were respectful and didn’t do anything offensive.”

Eagles in Pharaoh's cross-hairs
By: Sammy Wejinya

Egypt’s Pharaohs have intensified preparations to beat Nigeria in Tuesday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Alexandria.

The Pharaohs arrived in Borj El Arab (an industrial city and resort in Alexandria, Egypt) on Saturday following Friday’s 1-1 draw with Nigeria in Kaduna.

The team immediately swung into action with their first training session overseen by Argentinean tactician, Hector Cuper.

The session at the Borg El Arab stadium lasted for an hour and a half under heavy rains according to a report on the Egyptian Football Federation’s official website, www.efa.com.ng.

Players who took part in Friday’s game against the Super Eagles were separated from the rest of the squad with special drills performed on the two sets of players by Cuper and his coaching staff.

Meanwhile, veteran goal keeper, Essam El-Hadary is a doubt for Tuesday’s fixture against the Super Eagles in Alexandria.

The 43-year-old Wadi Delga goal keeper sustained a calf injury in training ahead of the Nigeria game last Friday and duly sat out the contest at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

On Saturday, he had scans and x-rays performed by national team doctor, Mohammed Aboul to determine the extent of the latest injury.

The veteran shot-stopper has now commenced an intensive course of treatment within the team’s camp in Borg El Arab.

He has stayed on in the camp to continue to perform his role as captain of the Pharaohs.

NFF Earns N40m from Nigeria vs Egypt, Faces CAF Axe for Poor Crowd Control

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), made a total sum of N40 million from ticket sales at last Friday’s AFCON 2017 qualifying match against the Pharaohs of Egypt in Kaduna.

The tickets for the match, which witnessed an overwhelming crowd at the Ahmadu Bello stadium, it was, bought over by the host Kaduna State Government for N40m.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sources confirmed that the federation reached an agreement with the Kaduna State Government which bought over the match and eventually distributed them to the freely free at designated centres.

The situation led to the throwing open of the Ahmad Bello stadium, leading to the recording of an intimidating crowd at the stadium.
“It was a perfect arrangement between the federation and the host government who bought all the tickets and distributed them to the teeming fans. We are pleased with the agreement which has guaranteed the highest crowd ever on Nigerian football. We are also grateful to God that we did not record any ugly incident because the crowd was much overwhelming,” an NFF official said.Nigeria may be sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for overcrowding at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Egypt last Friday.
The 25,000-capacity Ahmadu Bello Stadium, which was built in 1964, overflowed with more than 40,000 spectators after host Kaduna State government threw open the gates for the fans to watch the game free.
Hundreds of fans stood on the stadium’s athletics tracks to watch the match, while the stands were packed to the seams.
“Nigeria will most likely be penalised by CAF for this poor crowd control even though there was no major incident before, during and after the match,” said a worried top official.
“Sanctions for such a shortcoming would be a fine and a warning.”
Another official said the police failed to stop the crowd from gaining access to the stadium even when it was clear the arena’s capacity was already overstretched.
In 2009, poor crowd control caused the death of 19 people before a 2010 World Cup qualifier between hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Malawi.
Investigations said ticketless fans were to blame on the stampede and Ivorian FA were fined $47,000 by FIFA.

AMBROSE UNDER FIRE

RAGING Nigerian fans have blasted blundering Efe Ambrose following another high-profile howler.

The Celtic defender came under fire after being blamed for Egypt’s last-gasp equaliser in the crucial African Cup of Nations encounter in the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Ambrose didn’t check along the backline when he claimed offside as Mohammed Salah raced onto a through ball before blasting in the leveller.

Unfortunately, the centre-half had failed to notice a fellow-defender had played the speedy AS Roma winger well onside.

Left-back Etebo Oghenekaro was equally guilty at stepping out at the wrong moment, but it was the Hoops star who was in line for some furious comments by angry supporters of the Super Eagles.

They took to social media to pillory the 27-year-old who cost £800,000 when ex-boss Neil Lennon signed him from Israeli outfit FC Ashdod in June 2012.

One also took the opportunity to have a sideswipe at the standard of football in Scotland. He said: “I wonder the kinda strikers they have in the Scottish League. How Efe Ambrose is coping I dunno.”

Another wrote: “Check the dictionary for the meaning of ‘mistake’. You might find a picture of Efe Ambrose there.”

Another wrote: “Check the dictionary for the meaning of ‘mistake’. You might find a picture of Efe Ambrose there.”

And one tweeted: “I just cannot understand why Efe Ambrose is still a footballer.”

The Nigerians were within seconds of three points which would have put them in pole position in the race to reach the finals in Gabon next year. Now they trail the Egyptians by two points in Group G while Tanzania are third, one adrift.

Oghenekaro, who would go from hero to zero, netted on the hour mark when he followed up a rebound off the crossbar to scramble the ball into the net.

However, it just wasn’t the unfortunate Ambrose’s day and that was underlined when he fired in a 25-yard drive that struck the woodwork.

Egypt – known as ‘The Pharaohs’ – came back into the game and dominated midfield. Ambrose and Co lived dangerously as Carl Ikeme, the English-born keeper of Wolves, kept the opponents at bay – until the stoppage-time leveller.

The Nigerians take on Egypt again on Tuesday when they travel to Borg El Arab in their next qualifier.

Ambrose has suffered a torrid season at club level, too, and has been sent off twice – in the goalless draw against Hearts at Parkhead in September and the shock 3-1 defeat from Ross County in the League Cup semi-final in January.

His last start for the SPFL champions was the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over East Kilbride on February 7.

Thanks.
On why i chose Moses over Musa: The Egytians have a very cohesive defense and long balls, execessive running and crosses cannot break dat defense. It requires players hu play d way Simon and victor Moses play to unluck that defense. A little beat of selfish dribbles and a simple pass. This would always stretch d back line of d opponents as one of the CB back would always want to provide support to d Wing backs thereby leaving a gap in d middle of d defense a position from where Iheanacho hardly misses. We need to pull apart dat Egyptian defense as dey were too co-ordinated for us in d first leg. The 2 Moseses can effectively do that job.

On why i would prefer Iheanacho over Ighalo as d lone CF: Ighalo is too predictable. This also is largely responsible for his goals droubt in d EPL. He scores more from one on one situations. An organised 4 man defense can easily crowd him out. Iheanacho is a more versatile player. He is capable of springing suprises. Given the situation i described earlier where Simon and Moses pulls d defense apart, Iheanacho's shooting ability of any loose ball or pass would make d defference in dat attack. U saw Nigeria's goal against Egypt. Simon did d work of distabilizing d Right and Centre Back, d ball fell on Iheanacho hu hit d upright before Etebo finished it. That was a pointer as to how Iwobi-Simon-Iheanacho combianation can b very deadly. All 4 of d players involved in that goal (including Etebo) are U23.

We want to see this tripple combo in dat next fixture which is majorly y i chose Iwobi to start at number 10. Gradually that transition is unfolding. We start d transition with d attack den defense and midfield will follow.

I know we would eventually qualify even if we lose in Alexandria. We need to start building d team that will prosecute Rússia 2018 Qualifiers and 2017 AFCON. And it has started with this Egypt tie.

Modified:

Sorry abt d earlier mix up. Simon and Iheanacho were involved with d goal while Iwobi set up Moses for dat miss of the match.

All 3 of Simon, Iwobi and Moses deserve to start behind a main striker hu i would prefer to b Iheanacho.

Mohamed Salah said on Sunday he breathed a sigh of relief when the referee blew the final whistle in the 1-1 draw in Nigeria as he was on his way to one-on-one chance to score because hundreds of home fans were watching the game on the side track around the court.

Shortly after Salah had equalised for Egypt in the first minute of stoppage time in Nations' qualifying draw at Nigeria on Friday, the AS Roma winger appeared en route to stage a memorable comeback in the dying moments when he began to sprint unchallenged from the halfway line towards goal, only for the ref to end the game.

The ref's decision sparked outrage from the Egyptian players, who rushed at the referee to admonish him for what they saw as a bad call.

"I breathed a sigh of relief after the ref blew the final whistle," Salah, 23, told Al-Ahram Daily newspaper.

"I was afraid when I received the ball and was heading directly towards the goal to score what could have been the winner," Salah said.

"Had I been able to score, I wouldn't have been able to tell what exactly the fans' response would be, that's why I thanked God right after the final whistle."

Egypt, now top of Group G on seven points, host second-placed Nigeria for the fourth round of the Cup of Nations group-stage qualifiers at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Tuesday.

There are only two points separating the two teams, as they vie in a group whose winner directly qualifies for next year's Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Why Super Eagles May Miss Out Of Nations Cup Party
Dotun Akano

Steve Oma-Ofozor

Lagos

It is yet another arithmetic calculation again as Nigeria chances of qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon suffered a huge set back Friday following the Super Eagles 1-1 draw against the Pharaohs of Egypt in a must-win game in Kaduna.

Oghenekaro Etebo had put Nigeria ahead on the hour, when he scrambled home off a rebound after Kelechi Iheanacho’s sizzler came off the post; but, at stoppage time, Mohammed Salah beat an offside trap to draw Egypt level.

Invariably, the 1-1 draw implies that the Pharaohs stays on top of group G with seven points and Nigeria five points, just as the reverse fixture comes up in Alexandria, Egypt on Tuesday.

In this regard, Nigeria no doubt walks a tight rope to ensure qualification for the tournament billed for Gabon as failure to claim the maximum points on Tuesday would mean, missing the Africa football fiesta for a second consecutive time.

How did Nigeria get to this point is the big question even as it may be a rhetoric? Only last month, February 26, 2016 Sunday Oliseh announced his sudden resignation as coach of the Super Eagles to the consternation of sports-loving-Nigerians.

And of course, the reason was not far-fetched; Oliseh has been embroiled in crisis with his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over issues of interference, non-payment of salaries and poor welfare conditions for the players.

Oliseh also added, “Contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, and benefits to my coaches” as some of the reasons why he resigned from his job.

“I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain and coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria,” he said.

This decision came after he was instructed by the NFF to be reporting to the National Technical Committee of the Federation, headed by Chris Green; which contravenes some section of his contact. But Green defended the move on the premise that it was for easy coordination.

But, the entire scenario between the NFF and Oliseh was crystal clear that Nigeria was already in a tight corner in what Lagosian would call, “one chance” with regards to the Nations Cup qualifier.

The messy development again gave birth to the second coming of Samson Siasia albeit on iterim basis and a rescue mission even as some Nigerians if not most, were and still skeptical of his chances of steering the team to achieve any success.

Similarly, the reasons for some Nigerians skepticism on Siasia were not because of incompetence, but because of the time available for him to put up a team capable of upstaging a more cohesive Egypt.

Secondly, the team would need to at least play some friendly matches as it is usually the case to enable the players blend properly; but all these preparations processes were never followed because of lack of time.

But in fairness to Siasia, he was only able to put up a very casual team made up of players with individual skills and who were more of strange bed fellows.

They gave their best, but the journey still seemed so far away from reality and tongues are now wagging, eye brows raising; who to blame and how could the situation be remedied? That is now the second big question.

Accusing fingers are pointing to no other direction than the country’s apex football body, the NFF.

Only in 2015 edition, co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, Nigeria missed out of the tournament because of the quarrels between the then Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi and the NFF over similar reasons that made Oliseh to resign.

Thus it is high time a clear demarcation is drawn between the job of the Eagles coach and the NFF; whatever the result may turn out to be on Tuesday in Egypt, Oliseh seemed to have been vindicated.

The NFF cannot be administrators of Nigerian football and at the same time, the technical crew of the team. It is highly impossible, because two captains cannot navigate a ship.

Invariably, getting the right coach for Nigeria, whether local or foreign has never been a problem; but NFF’s undue interference would never give him a conducive environment to operate.

It is certainly a cliché to start dwelling how players would either be imposed on the coach or he is frustrated with the starvation of funds and other supports withdrawn.

At this juncture, whether Nigeria qualifies or not, the National Assembly through the Committee on Sports must take a position on the way forward to save the nation’s senior national team- the Super Eagles; this is because Eagles belong to the sport that cuts across ethnic, religious and social barriers-football.

AFCON 2017: Ladipo blames Oboabana for Egypt goal

By Patrick Omorodion

Olympicgold medallist and president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Dr. Daniel Igali has affirmed his believe in the Super Eagles qualification for the 2017 Africa Nations Cup in Gabon.

Igali said that with what the team tutored by Samson Siasia played in Kaduna, he was optimistic they can beat Egypt or at least hold them to a draw in Alexandria on Tuesday.

“I was disappointed yesterday after we allowed the Egyptian to equalise in a match we were supposed to win. Our boys just went to sleep and the Egyptians took advantage of it.

Just imagine a defender raising his hand to attract the referee’s attention. The time he used in raising his hands he could have closed up on the Egyptian who could have attempted to dribble him and allow the goalkeeper to come close.

They didn’t understand themselves well in the first half as they made faulty passes. In the second half they started playing very well. We now have a good team”he stressed.

He however, added that “with what the players displayed yesterday (Friday), I believe they can beat them or at least play a draw in Egypt. We have a team now, all they just need is concentrate, “ he surmised.

Meanwhile President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr Rafiu Ladipo blamed Super Eagles defender for the Egyptian goal.

According to him, “our boys blundered. Oboabona shouldn’t have stood up after falling. He should have stayed put on the ground there and allow the referee call in the medicals and by that way allow the time to tick away, “ he said. He added that “fair play is at the discretion of the referee and the players should have known that, “ stressing however that “ I am glad that we have a team now that can stand any opponent.”

Your explanation is hands down accurate and I am updating my thread on it. There is no doubt the Egyptians can deal with organized tactical play. They are built for it.

The two Moses (Simon-Victor) found their ways through the defence repeatedly and I agree with you that is a good point to note. Leaving out such crucial detail will lead to the Egyptians predicting our play.

Iwobi behind your three creative forward picks (S. Moses, Iheanacho and V. Moses) will form a cohesive but deadly creative forward line.

In the light of the above discussion.....

...One question does come to mind... Will Coach Samson Siasia have the balls to drop Ighalo in favor of the "Double Moses +Iheanacho" attacking trio assault with An Iwobi behind them and with Mikel and Onazi behind Iwobi?

I'll really love to see Ighalo dropped just for this Alexandria encounter. He's a very good striker but isn't inventive enough (though can stun opponents on his day). But will it happen?

Siasia, over to you...

Which Moses plays as a 9?? Don't think nacho should play as one yet.
I'd rather Aaron Samuel starts

Chad withdraws from AFCON qualifiers. This means Nigeria must beat Egypt to qualify. No hope for best loser

He said attacking trio, like Neymar, Messi and Suarez. We want and expect a S. Moses, Iheanacho and Victor Moses combination.

Also, if you play Aaron Samuel, you lose the fluid passing movement up front. Aaron Samuel needs the midfield to create for him to perform. He rarely participates in the build up play.

With Iheanacho, we have a player who can drop deep like Suarez or Messi when they play up front do, combine with the midfield and Wingers to unlock stubborn defenses.

Which Moses plays as 9?? Answer is "None".

Both will have to come from the wings.

The #9 in that attacking trio would be Nacho. That's why I put it as a "double moses + Iheanacho" combo assault.

Aaron Samuel as #9 in place of Ighalo? Hmm... That's another possibility but Aaron also plays with power and pace (akin to Ighalo). He isn't creative or dynamic enough to take part in creative build-up play. He's certainly a beast (one of his CSKA moscow teammates likened him to Solomon Rondon of Westbrom because of their beast-like styles of play) but he's also not inventive enough.

Besides, Will Siasia play Aaron Samuel in Alexandria? I really don't know but I don't think he will. Samuel didn't even make the "matchday bench" against Egypt in Kaduna.

That' a big blow for us and also Egypt. Bt it simply means best losers would b picked from results of games involving the top 3 teams in each grp.

Hopes are still high.

Ten minutes into the game, with the score at 0-0, Pep gave the nod Lionel to Messi and Samuel Eto'o. The two players had to swap positions. Eto'o, usually a centre-forward, moved to the right wing and Messi, a right winger, took up position in the centre of the field - but playing deeper, more like an attacking midfielder. Christoph Metzelder and Fabio Cannavaro, the Madrid centre-backs, were lost. They had no idea how to counteract the change.

Whilst researching this book I had the chance to meet Metzelder over dinner in Dusseldorf. That astonishing day was still fresh in his memory. "Fabio and I looked at each other. 'What do we do? Do we follow him to the midfield or stay deep?' We didn't have a clue."

No one is putting down the attacking capabilities of the other attackers. The Egyptians were solid at the back and thwarted the massive blows we threw at them in waves.

It is time we took a more creative approach to unlock them. Let us not go at them the normal way we did the last time. We sent the ball to the attackers and hoped we get a chance to score.

Let us use the brilliance and creativity of our talented youngsters. Iwobi's instinct is top notch. A touch to the midfield and then he raced in front of the midfielder to receive the ball. Moses also inverted his run and ran in front of Iwobi and Iwobi sent that pass. (Amunike-Finidi movement from Westerhoff's playbook)

We need this kind of innovative play and a striker who can connect with it. We need to keep the Egyptian defenders thinking what to do.

Hahahahaha..... Chaiii.... Pep Guardiola!!!! I recall this story. I read about it and more on how Pep made a monstrous goal-scoring machine out of Messi in the "false #9" role.

We can apply this in this Eagles team because we have the talents to do such.

It's not hype... It's just the truth.

In the game against Egypt, I expected Ighalo to try something different to shake off the defenders but he did not. Iheanacho dropped deep a lot of times and it helped increase the tightness of our play.

If you watch Aguero play for Man City, you see him drop off the attack and then help in teamwork and possessive play.

That is what I expect the coaching crew to opt for. A more fluid attack line that will combine passes and skills. With Iwobi behind them to make the right passes to direct the plays.

Well said... Wish I could like this a million times.

The other strikers like Ighalo, Aaron Samuel and even Fanendo Adi are all fantastic forwards who can fully excel in certain tactics and formations like in a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, etc.

But then, there's need for dynamism to be employed in certain situations where a natural out-and-out striker with less skillset won't really fit in.
