TheGoodJoe:

He said attacking trio, like Neymar, Messi and Suarez. We want and expect a S. Moses, Iheanacho and Victor Moses combination.

Also, if you play Aaron Samuel, you lose the fluid passing movement up front. Aaron Samuel needs the midfield to create for him to perform. He rarely participates in the build up play.

With Iheanacho, we have a player who can drop deep like Suarez or Messi when they play up front do, combine with the midfield and Wingers to unlock stubborn defenses.
Oh I get you....just feel Nacho might not be physical enough to handle those aggressive Egyptians(who will be pumped up as ever for the game.). Aaron Samuels aggressive style of play might be more useful than subtlety that nacho would add as a 9.

Which Moses plays as 9?? Answer is "None".

Both will have to come from the wings.

The #9 in that attacking trio would be Nacho. That's why I put it as a "double moses + Iheanacho" combo assault.

Aaron Samuel as #9 in place of Ighalo? Hmm... That's another possibility but Aaron also plays with power and pace (akin to Ighalo). He isn't creative or dynamic enough to take part in creative build-up play. He's certainly a beast (one of his CSKA moscow teammates likened him to Solomon Rondon of Westbrom because of their beast-like styles of play) but he's also not inventive enough.

Besides, Will Siasia play Aaron Samuel in Alexandria? I really don't know but I don't think he will. Samuel didn't even make the "matchday bench" against Egypt in Kaduna.

I get what you're saying....that's why I asked which Moses starts off as a 9. I don't think Nacho is ready to play as a number 9 yet for us. I'd rather start Musa ahead of nacho. If you want fluidity, a S.Moses - Musa - V Moses front line should do it with Nacho/Iwobi playing just behind.
Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by TheSuperNerd(m): 3:31pm On Mar 27, 2016
Iheanacho's skillset trumps that of Ahmed Musa.

Musa is a good option in the #9 role but not our best option in that role in a fluid attacking trio.

That is why going power for power is not the Solution. The Egyptians are ready for that and we saw how we handled them.

We need a more creative approach. We need our attackers relying on their skills to thwart the strong defenders. Look at Suarez and Messi who are not the strongest attackers. They utilize their skill and clever play to thwart stubborn attackers.

If you bring in Aaron Samuel to win the fight, then we play into the hands of Hector Cuper and his defenders.

That was why Simon Moses and Victor Moses ran at the Egyptian defence at will. They could hardly stop them. Iheanacho could have clear direct attempts because both times, he dropped off the attack and played some clever build up plays.

When power and skill meet, skill must prevail. That is why Messi is the World number one.

Who needs to get physical with the Egyptians? #smiles

With Nacho up top, he won't have to engage in physical confrontations. His movements and positional intelligence alone will be more than enough to contend with.

How do I know this? Check out Messi (Pep era) or a Suarez (Enrique era) in the #9 position. They don't engage in physical take-ons no matter how big the opponents are.

They rather stick to fast-paced fluidity. They run rings around the defenders, dropping into spaces and opening up more for their teammates.... In the midst of all the "chaos", (#smiles) they give that one pass that releases a free player to convert a good chance.

An attack like that don't need to go physical. They have their constant movements and intelligent positioning to destabilise any defence if well executed.

This shall surely apply to the other groups. The teams who finish last in the other groups will have their results taken out of the final equation.

This is to ensure fairness to Nigeria's group.

But with or without this announcement, I'VE ALWAYS MAINTAINED WE'RE GOING FOR A WIN AND THE PLAYERS KNOW THAT. SO IT BOTHERS ME NOT.

Why? Taking away the results of the last-placed teams in the other groups ought to give our group a shot at being in the running for one of the two best "runners-up" slots.

Anyway, all I know is: it's either we win in Egypt or we win in Egypt. Those are the two options we got no matter what anyone says.

It's either We Win or We Win.... And Win, We shall.

Chad have withdrawn from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group G, which comprises Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania.

The African minnows cited financial difficulties for their surprise decision to pull out of the qualifications, leaving Group G with only three teams.

The withdrawal means that Chad's group results will be nullified, with leaders Egypt – who initially thrashed the outsiders 5-1 away from home – now on four points instead of seven.

Second-placed Nigeria have been deducted three points as well following their 2-0 victory over Chad, with the Super Eagles now on two points. Tanzania are also on two.

Court sacks Egypt FA before Nigeria showdown

Egypt's coach Hector Cuper

The executive committee of the Egypt Football Association (EFA) have been sacked by a court on account of rigging of the polls that produced them.

The court verdict is final and cannot be appealed, according to Ahram newspaper.

And it comes just two days before Egypt to take on group rivals Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations group-stage qualifiers at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium
The case dates back to a lawsuit filed in 2013 by the president of the second division football team Bani Ebeid, Hermas Radwan, challenging the integrity of the voting process in the association's 2012 elections.

The regular four-year elections of a new board are set to take place in September 2016.

The current executive director of the board Tharwat Sweilam is expected to direct the association till September.

Nigeria vs Chad in Kaduna in June 2015

Chad, who are in the same AFCON qualifying group with Nigeria, have withdrawn from the series with a possible implication of this withdrawal being that only the overall group winners will qualify for Gabon 2017 as groups with only three teams cannot produce second best qualifiers.

Chad cited financial constraints for their withdrawal.
They will therefore not honour Monday’s reverse leg match against Tanzania on account of their financial problems.

An official statement by Chad signed by FA general secretary Moctar Mahamoud said the country will not be in Tanzania for Monday’s AFCON qualifier due to the global economic crunch, which has also affected their participation in other international competitions.

Chad are bottom of Group G with no points having lost their matches against Nigeria, Egypt and Tanzania.

Besides the trip to Tanzania, they are also due to host Nigeria in June before a final group game against Egypt.

Carl Ikeme Out Of Egypt Clash; Siasia Insists There Is Nothing To Worry About

Wolverhampton Wanderers netminder Carl Ikeme has been ruled out of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday due to illness.

The 29-year-old has not participated in full training since Friday’s game, with Super Eagles team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran revealing that the goalkeeper has stomach upset.

Interim Coach of the Super Eagles, Samson Siasia, has stressed that the absence of Ikeme will not prevent the team from winning against the North Africans, adding that there’s adequate cover.

“We will surely miss Carl but the good thing with our team is that we have capable replacements in every department,” said Siasia.

“Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa are still here and any one of these two will help us get the job done in Alexandria.”

Ikeme made his debut for Nigeria in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in September 2015 and has posted three shutouts in competitive fixtures.

Nigeria pray for miracle in Egypt to avoid permutations

by Samm Audu

Football throws up miracles after miracles and that explains why Nigerians now hope and pray the Super Eagles could do something out of the ordinary in Alexandria and pull off the victory they could not get in Kaduna on Friday.

The Eagles failed to beat the Pharaohs in a must-win game in Kaduna and are now walking on an even tighter rope on the road to qualifying for the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.

Halfway through the qualifying tournament, Egypt are two points clear of their closest rivals Nigeria at the top of the standings.

No matter what they are now trying to sell to you, the matches that really count are the ones between the two countries.

Nigeria cannot afford to lose in Alexandria on Tuesday night and it would be a lot more assuring, if they could overcome a poor away record to beat Egypt in front of their partisan fans.

The Eagles are currently a distant sixth on the best losers table on five points with Cape Verde and Mauritania the top two on six points each.

A win for the Eagles in Egypt will earn them eight points for them to now have their destiny firmly in their own hands and not count on the results of the other matches in the group and also in the other groups to keep their qualification hopes alive.

A draw in Egypt will have Nigeria on six points and it would then be hoped they will win their remaining two games – away in Chad in June and at home against Tanzania in September – to finish on 12 points.

Will that 12-point tally qualify them as one of the two best losers?

In 2012, Nigeria finished on 11 points after six matches and still failed to feature Gabon as one of two best losers as Sudan (13 points) and Libya (12 points) advanced by virtue of that consideration.

For the 2015 AFCON, they recorded eight points for DR Congo to qualify for the tournament proper with nine points and that was when the top two teams in each group qualified automatically.

Besides Cape Verde and Mauritania, the likes of Togo and Uganda are ahead of Nigeria as best losers to make it to Gabon 2017.

So, even with 12 points, It could therefore be another case of permutations and calculators to determine if Nigeria will feature in a tournament they have won thrice.

For me I don't see Iheneacho leading the eagles attack in Alexandria on tuesday. Iheneacho is a gr8 player no doubt but playing the number 9 on tuesday. Common guys, siasia will definitely not risk it. This is not a friendly match or preparatory match, this is a must win afcon qualifier match.

Don't be surprised if you see iheneacho on the bench on tuesday. I expect to see our "former" captain Musa on the bench too. Iwobi should and V. Moses will likely start.

Iheneacho is good and we love him but I don't see him as our number 9 on tuesday.

The Kaduna resident, who was left frustrated by the draw with Egypt, spent time with his football heroes during Saturday’s training at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium

He’s only 15 but it would be hard to find a more passionate Nigeria and Super Eagles fan across the country.

Abubakar Haruna Gurugu came in on all four limbs to watch the Super Eagles training on Saturday evening at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, a day after Nigeria were held by Egypt.

He ended up being a friend to the stars.

It was striker Odion Ighalo who first took interest in the lad before Abubakar then turned his charms on captain John Obi Mikel.

Mikel and the young man spoke for almost five minutes about Friday’s game among many other topics while seated on the tartan tracks of the stadium.

After what looked like a heartfelt discussion between both, Abubakar then gently crawled away and made his way out of the stadium.

“I wasn’t happy about the draw,” Abubakar, who seemed to have been struck by polio as a child, toldGoal. “How can Egypt draw Nigeria in Kaduna!”

The lad, who spoke mostly in Hausa, must have impressed the players with his passion and it seems they promised to lend him some assistance.

Ighalo asked around for a phone number for the boy’s guardian while Mikel also said he would offer some help, Abubakar said.

Govt okays 40,000 fans to cheer Egypt to victory over Nigeria

Egypt’s interior ministry has announced it will now allow 40,000 fans into the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria to cheer the home team to victory against Nigeria in an AFCON qualifier on Tuesday night.

Egypt have observed a crowd ban since February 2012 when 72 fans died at the Port Said Stadium during a league match.

The government initially approved for 10,000 fans for the crucial AFCON match, before they added 5,000 more fans and they have now agreed for 40,000 fans to watch the game, according to Ahram newspaper.

Local interest in the game has been overwhelming with thousands of fans lining up for hours to buy match tickets.

The first match in the northern Nigerian town of Kaduna ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw on Friday.
Following the shock withdrawal of Chad, Egypt remain on top of the group with four points, Nigeria are second on two points and Tanzania are on a point.

Only the overall winners of this group will now qualify for Gabon 2017.
