otokx:Some other school of thought suggests (in fact affirms) that all these cutting corners to make deals are not good at all and weaken our country. The thing is there is the rule of law, implementing which all crap will be eliminated. When you make the law cower in the corner and you try to make all kinds of deals take the place of the law, you continually weaken the country. The more irrelevant we make our laws, the more irrelevant what makes us as a country becomes. Take for example, Agatu. Did people commit murder? Are the people known? Why can't they be arrested? Okay if that is extreme (which it is not) why can't they be evacuated from lands they now occupy illegally after killing people they don't even share boundaries with? You see, just implement the law and all will be fine. From allowing the Zamfara guys to do sharia in the north during OBJ's era, to allowing fulanis to kill and doing nothing about it, to not punishing those caught in acts of electoral malpractice only exacerbates the problems. Perpetrators are caught every time and what ever happens to them? The police catches them red handed, arrests them and clearly somewhere down the line, lets them go again - for reasons we never get told It is this culture that fans the embers of all the wrong going on. So I will repeat that all these long stories are not necessary when the rules have been designed to completely take care of all these issues. (1)INEC conducts fairly (2)Police arrests who they can, including compromised INEC staff caught in the act - and prosecutes them accordingly (3)INEC announces results (4)Parties involved accept their victories and losses. If we have the above four situations prevalent, from where will electoral violence evolve? If the laws that constitute a country cannot and will not be upheld, that country is a joke and the law does not say here that when all these misdemeanours are going on, culpable people caught in the act should go scot-free as they try to arrange for talks to be made. Indeed, if guilty parties were being punished, we would not have been fooling around with violence, accusations and counter-accusations till we got to this point where after a re-run, some elections are still not done, people were caught cheating, and we still have accusations and counter-accusations flying around as nobody has been punished. Instead we had an electoral officer saved from the law by people in the system |

ddippset: I say there is no need for discussions with Amaechi to ensure peace right now in Rivers State because he holds no office in any tier of govt in Rivers State and if there is a need to discuss with an outside person for peace to exist in Rivers State right now, that outside person must be an outside agitator (just like boko haram and the militants). Now please, can you help us see the connection between what you have posted here and what I said? |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by BeardedMeat(m): 12:34pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
otokx:Amaechi is not the governor of Rivers State and does not hold any electoral office in Rivers State, Wike is the Governor and CEO of Rvers State. PDP is in power and PDP is on ground! Why would APC who has no grassroot following in Rivers State be factored into ay important decision or policy making of the state? Is the goverment of Rivers a unity Government? Or is APC in Rivers a part of the Security outfits in Rivers? 1 Like |

ddippset:Send Wike a text message, I am sure you will get answers to what you seek. I particularly liked how Wike took all his haters to the cleaners this morning with the sincere and detailed way he answered questions posed to him. A total departure from the way the self-aclaimed lion would have been fanning innanities on national TV and Radio whenever he is interviewed. I also hoped that you watched Dakuku's interview on same channel and that of Wike's Comm for Info versus APC Rivers Chairman Ikanya all last week. Nigerians now know better and their verdict is public knowledge. |

cckris: A lot of stuff here on personalities. In fact almost all of supposed politics here on Nairaland seems to focus on personalities. Is this because so much politics is tribal based? Just asking! I have never yet seen any mature debates on the policies of the parties. Do they even have any? Cronyism and personality cult are no way to run a country. |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by otokx(m): 1:03pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
BeardedMeat: PDP has grassroots yet it lost in Opobo; interesting. |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by otokx(m): 1:06pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
KoloOyinbo: You have spoken very well, the parties have not yet identified clear cut policies that can be identified as being synonymous with such party. In Nigeria, it appears leadership is more of a personality cult. |

otokx:You have been blowing hot and cold since the begining of this thread. Its hard to say what you yourself can be identified with. The next thing you will say you are on the side of Nigerian masses even though your antecedents show otherwise. |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by cckris: 1:13pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
KoloOyinbo:You're right. 1. Buhari's politics is TRIBAL, ISLAMIC, & never been national. 2. Or has Buhari accomplished any programme since inauguration? 3. The politics that dislodged Jonathan is TRIBAL. 4. Tribal politics continua. Are you not from a tribe? 1 Like |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by BeardedMeat(m): 1:20pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
KoloOyinbo:You are correct but unfortunately, Politics of tribe and cronyism would continue to dominate until there is true federalism. There is too much mutual suspicision in the polity and only a naïve person will do otherwise. |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by cckris: 1:26pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
otokx:Because you're not able to IMPOSE Amaechi as cult figure over 5 million people in Rivers State, you now begin to complain about cult personality followership, by which another person, like Wike, could out-perform & make Amaechi, your own cult figure completely irrelevant. Must you be RELEVANT? Can't you learn to be yourself, & be content with yourself? 1 Like |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by otokx(m): 1:26pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
BeardedMeat: As you usual when valid arguments cannot be raised they attack the personality. We will continue to expose the truth backed by veifiable fact's. Its a verifiable fact that the people in Opobo were allowed to vote a candidate of their choice not in PDP contrary to what people say here that the entire Rivers State is PDP. |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by KoloOyinbo(m): 1:42pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
cckris: My tribe are the Celts. Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Breton etc. We support a party because we belive their policies best. We will not vote for a man we like if we disagree with his policies. Jonathan was dislodged not because of tribalism dut because despite being (I believe) a good man he could not control the corruption of the rest of a party that had failed miserably to govern properly. Despite many disreputable characters defecting from PDP to APC the electorate fairly gave a mandate to a new government to see if they could do better. We await the results with interest. Now what are the POLICIES of PDP? Fiscal, political, social, educational, foreign relations etc. I would ask these also of APC. I only know of anti corruption (doing small but nevertheless better than could be expected in the face of 16 years of looting), recovery of stolen funds (better progress here despite the mamoth task but still a way to go), and a fiscal policy of control of foreign reserves which (like most fiscal policies) has a down side as well as a positive and will take time to work anyway. The key thing ANY government NEEDS to do in Naija (APC or PDP) is to reduce the disgraceful dependence on oil revenue that was allowed to develop under the last few governments and thus make Naija less vulnerable to the effects of a global fall in oil price. This is hurting Naija more than it should because the economy was allowed to become over dependent on it! Now perhaps BOTH parties would set forth clear policies on diversification of the economy so the electorate could forget this tribal rubbish and vote for the party with the policies they feel are best! This is NOT about religion or tribe but about policies. As an oyinbo who has been coming to Naija for 16 years and travelling the world for decades longer than that I can tell you the rest of the world could not care less about your tribes and just want you to get on with sorting out your own country! |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by ddippset(m): 1:52pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
coolscott:lol. Iam sure you cant even believe yourself. The most powerful man in rivers state today is Rotimi Amaechi, not even the governor Wike. His postion as a federal minister and a very close ally of the commander in chief makes him most powerful man in rivers state. Amaechi of today has got the influence to even change the security attachment to wike. Besides, Amaechi is the leader of the second biggest political group in rivers state. For now amaechi is the leader of a group of people comprising the boss of the nddc, the boss of nimasa, at least 2 members of the house of assembly and at least 200,000 members of a political party. And then you think there's no relevance in discussing with Amaechi. Clap for yourself boy! |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by BeardedMeat(m): 2:05pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
otokx:You are funny baba!! Even in the North, they have APGA supporters there. I am sure with the votes in Opobo, Amaechi can now conviniently impeach Wike through the state assembly as he Amaechi had always wanted. If also you don't think your personality should not be brought to question here, how do you want readers on this forum to properly form an opinion based on what you post. You are an unstable personality on this thread and your assertions must be viewed with extra caution. |
Re: Gov.wike Live On Sunrise Daily. by BeardedMeat(m): 2:28pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
KoloOyinbo:Your assertions are hypocritical when you after looking all around you, you cannot point to anything PDP did with governance for 16yrs. I will not bother educating you cos if you wanted to really be in the know, you could at least use gOogle! Be that as it may, PDP government made it possible for us who live in Nigeria to be on this forum now debating with you. They made enviable and giant strides in telecomms, agriculture, education, power, transportion youth empoerment. , oil sector reforms, Banking and education. And you were right for believing Goodluck was a good man but for his lieutenants! They took the Nigerian masses for granted, they failed to showcase the achievements of Jonathan, not until very late in the day when APC had already taken Propaganda and lies on the govt of the day to a point of no return. 10months is still too small for you to start praise worshiping the current govt especially since they have iniatiated and completed any new projects. Without been told, you can see Buhari has no plans or clues for diversification but only interested in more taxes to raise revenue to exlore oil in the Chad Basin and rebuild the NE! The2016 budget has no provisions for diversifiacation. |
