Fairytales:I still won't do it. It is still unnecessary. By the way, statutory marriage is cheap, a couple can procure one with less than a 100k. But the issue is it's a whole different matter opting out of it, ---even if both couples want to . Remember, it can only take a high court to grant divorce plea except in IMO state. And , I think it gives women so much underserved and unmerrited rights in matrimony. |

Fairytales:I don't know how they statutorily wiggle there way into giving magistrate courts the jurisdiction of entertaining disputes in statutory marriage. Although the jurisdiction of magistrate courts in Nigeria has been recently reviewed and given greater scope as courts of first instance, but it still doesn't carry the powers of divorce in statutory marriage. And it's fücking expensive to initiate court proceedings, lawyers charge extra. It isn't worth it. |

I can make do without the church/white wedding buh nt with the court and traditional wedding. If he insists on no court wedding then the relationship will have to be cut short. |

Re: What Will You Do If Your Fiance Insists On No Court/church Marriage? by Lezzlie(m): 6:20pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
Fairytales:Just advice couples to say away from court/ statutory marriages, it's a borrowed culture. It doesn't stop divorce, neither can it guarantee fidelity. It makes the atmosphere of marriage tensed and suspicious. The West have already started prenuptial agreement when they saw the sheer folly of it. Any woman who fell out of love with the husband could easily kill him off to acquire his estate just as easy as walking into an open door. Lazy gigolos would be conniving with silly wives and telemundo addicted wives to acquire their husbands hard-earned money. Simple solution, leave a Will behind. Court/Statutory marriage is a no no for me. 1 Like |

DemiGoddess:Any lady who insists on court marriage has got a scheme that doesn't include the hubby on the brighter side. No girl insists on court marriage if the hubby is flat out broke or struggling. If you check most homicide findings, in the West, you see couples kill couples either to acquire the estate or not having to pay for divorce and alimony settlements. Back to Nigeria, every Nigerian woman is predisposed to fall victim to the sweet talk of thieving pastors, prophets, seers and fortune-tellers who tell her what she wants to hear. Add that to the number of exes who can ignite her dying fires and you're looking at a potential disaster, once people start appreciating the benefits of court marriage. |
