Sorry Sir, why i can not disagree with you on privacy, i must say that you are benefiting from others that are kind to showcase their projects. Its kind of one sided relationship. Privacy is relative, and there are ways you can share your project without sharing your identity or location. God continue to bless you and all.

I noticed that Bamboo is widely used in construction and building support in Nigeria, i wandering the bamboo is really good for the supporting works, are they easy to broken and fall when using, right?

Bamboo is a very strong member when subjected compressive axial force. Bamboo is much stronger than any alternative 2 x 4 wood ( 50mm x 100mm) you can get. Bamboo is also relatively cheaper than other alternative.

Bamboo is best use for temporary supportive work like decking supportive pole where it carries vertical load longitudinal to its axis and other work like for scaffolding. In these work, they are discarded after use since they can't be joined and reuse after use(though, with better joinery techniques they can read used).

Bamboo major problem is when subjected axial force perpendicular to its axis

Doing it somewhat differently.

I got 3 paid estimates. Approached my builder whose work I trust and offered him what I thought was prudent based on the three paid estimates.

He's only supplying the workforce and know how. I am supplying all the materials and equipment. I am working from full architectural plan which includes structural plans that's not even required for bungalows in my city. But better to be safe than to be sorry. I erred completely on the side of safety during this build.

Just rented concrete mixer and engineer - N15k

I can't possibly sleep tonight grin

diordaves:

It's nice to see your project waxing on at full steam at that. It's always going to be challenging managing a project from overseas.

Taking a look at your current pix of your project, I can recall sometimes back you bounced it off the house on how to re-enforce a particular section of your project- I think a retaining wall or something of that nature. Now this brings me to ask if you are doing this all strictly by DIY? How? I just thought to myself you should not be seeking opinion of how to re-enforce a retaining wall if you have a certified structural drawing which should include the design for the "problematic" wall.

Now if you have a structural drawing and not just adding stuff as you go along, and if you are building according to the dictates of your structural drawing then this is all academic and no need to eat our hairs. But if you are building all DIY, you may want to re-visit these small issues as marked out in red:

# The left flank of the building is one long wall with just about two columns. I appreciate it is a bungalow but the land is not table flat which poses some serious structural challenges. How did your structural drawing interpret this stretch of wall without columns mid-way? Again don't you thing the foundation is too low? Or have you done back filling already? Now what kind of lintel is your structural drawing? drop lintel or "all round chaining" ? If you are going to use the drop lintel, you want to sit back and have another look at the wall.

# The layout of the building from the pix, I noticed that the courtyard is not "tied" to the rest of the building. It's a complete island smacked deep in the middle of the super-structure. Appreciating the fact that the land is not table flat there may be an increased risk of differential settlement. Further, why is the inner section of the courtyard loaded with columns but the outer section (coners as arrowed) nearer the gate are without columns? There is the question of structural stability flow. The roof is probably the structure that may "tie" the courtyard to the rest of the building?

Its a bungalow but on a slope, so your stock in trade should be structural stability flow:any re-enforcement on a particular section of the building should inter-relate with other sections of the building and tie the building together and not independent re-enforcement here and there.

You really broke it down into the nitty-gritty!
I deliberately avoided doing that because l know his "reaction to being corrected or any form of positive criticisms" (too self-concious) but then, we all owe it a duty to our fellow-man, to highlight areas of deficiency, especially when DIY is involved so that we can avoid "sorry-tales" in the future.
Lekki Gardens fiasco is all too recent

@Brabus, pls come and advice your 'pliend' o, you are Builder and he should at least listen to your own advice,
...chicken-coop or mansion not-withstanding, , structural stability is still essential. undecided

My chairman, though you may not agree with him but not everyone has the thick skin that I have and use to deal with certain inconsequential sectors of mouth breathers that we have on here.

That's the unfortunate situation that the internet affords to internet cowards that sits behind their keyboards and cycles between multiple userids like the forum queens that they are.

Sharing ones project means many things to many people. For me, I'm not looking for critique or acceptance. Just basically sharing though I'm open to intelligent viewpoint from specific folks who are not just writing a bash fest to stroke their feminine egos. ( Eyin agba lesowipe, eni to bama funni lasowo, ti orun re lakowo). To others sometimes they do yearn for that feedback from demonstrated builders.

By the way, thanks for the vendor recommendation, I was impressed by the healthy respect he has for you.
