How Has Nairaland Transformed Your Life? by Capableben(m): 1:38pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
How has Nairaland transformed your life? I started my "Nairaland journey" as a guest viewer. I come in once in a while, read posts, funny comments, news and vanish . Most times as a guest viewer, I included "Nairaland" as a keyword when searching for a piece of information on Google, so that I can get it answered the "Nigerian" way. With time, my penchant for the forun escalated and I made up my mind to join too because i found it so fascinating and a place where I can get answers to most problems I encounter on a daily; and the joy of having people with like minds that can relate with such problems or challenges. Presently, I can't help but assert that I'm a "proud" Nairaland Addict, lol. Its my most visited website and im almost invariably online (Mind you, I ain't Jobless). Today ,I bring you ways in which Nairaland has affected/transformed my life. 1) MY DICTION HAS IMPROVED Yes, Nairaland is saturated with individuals who have almost impeccable diction and a good mastery of the English Language, it is evident in their comments. How about the numerous novels uploaded by our writers? All these have helped tremendously to shape my diction and sense of expression. I happen to be an admin in a whatsapp group for the alumni of my secondary school. The way I relate and express myself in the group with admirable vocabulary made an old classmate send me a private Message. "Guy, tell me the secret na, your vocabs don develop o, I dey admire am", It read. I just shook my head and smiled. I later gave him some tips , but deep down In my mind, I knew that Nairaland played the major role. 2) I AM MORE INFORMED NOW Before I joined this forum, I used to be oblivious to information, political news, entertainment news, societal news, sports news etc. But right now, an incredible transformation has taken place. I went from being the quite boy that hardly chips in a contribution during discussions with folks to being the alpha source of information, I keep others informed. You just can't hear that news before me. When my friends tell me that "Mikel obi's is now a father of a set of twins" I smile, shrug and say "that's an outdated news man, about two days ago it happened" I now seat boldly with my dad to discuss politics because im now Informed and NAIRALAND keeps me informed. Its excting 3) MAKING NEW AND EXCITING FRIENDS. There's not doubt that this forum brings people together from different walks of life across the country and beyond. I have been able to make new friends here, it all started when they made some useful contributions to my thread and we got to exchange numbers. Very intelligent and exciting people : Chizzy94, Chizzy, nabsprada, Champella,Bukjosy, Obeenah etc. 4) SOURCE OF ENCOURAGEMENT This forum has been a source of encouragement to me, in many ramifications of life. There' was a time a had a little academic challenge, and being such an introvert that barely relates with classmates talk more of the HOD, I ran to Nairaland and posted my worries. And before I could spell out my surname in full "ONUOHA", the comments came flooding in. Encouragements from well wishers and those that had akin issues. And today, I have overcome that challenge. Nairaland is home. 5) IMPROVED SENSE OF HUMOUR Hahahaha, need I explain this? Everyone here knows we got the funniest people in this country on Nairaland. Whenever I have a gloomy or sad day, I quickly enter Nairaland, just to read the hilarious and refreshing comments of nairalanders. "The Wailers", "Abeg, who get beans, I get oil?", "....and how does that reduce the exchange rate of dollar?" "IPOB youths" "The yoruba-igbo e-clashes" lol its all exciting.. I have been transformed to a light comedian too amidst my guys, I keep them laughing all day, its all Nairaland. 6) My FATHER IS A NAIRALANDER. Yes, you read it right, my father is a regular guest on NL. It all happened when My kid brother eventually unearthed the reason why i have my attenntion buried in my phone most of the time, Nairaland. He started visiting the forum too. One day he met our dad. "Daddy, I can see you like reading newspapers all the time, why not check out this sight that displays news and stop wasting money on newspapers" My dad welcomed the idea and today, pitifully, Daddy is an addict. Hope he doesn't get to read this. 7) DEFINED CAREER PATH: I had little or no idea about what I'd like to be in life, hitherto. Its not because I'm a dummy or I lack a sense of decision, but I didn't get to gather experience about career paths while coming up, all thanks to my local background. As I joined Nairaland, my sense of career was rebranded, I got enlightened by the numerous and ever inspiring career aficionados we have here. This helped me choose a suitable career for my self, applied for the course in the university, and BINGO! I was admitted, at an attempt as though I was predestined for this. I am training to be a chemical Engineer and I'm proud I chose it. Worthy mentions: Jarus, Champella. TALENT DICOVERY: I'm a lover of music, particularly Hiphop and inspirational songs. I once stumbled upon a thread for rap battles, and it was interesting reading through the captivating verses and punchlines and I thought to my self: "Are these demigods or something, ain't they ur fellow Nairalanders?, try write your verses too" From there, I got a song book and started writing songs, and I must confess the 'flows' kept coming. Today I have recorded three songs and I consider songwriting as one of my talents. Thanks to Music section, Nairaland. 9) SOLUTION CENTER: To me, NL is beyond a forum right now, its more of a "solution center" to me. There hasn't been an issue I brought here that went without a solution. So, as I go about my daily stuffs, its imprinted in my subconsciousness that I have a solution center, I take it to God sha, if its beyond NL. There are many other little ways in which NL has transformed or affected my life but these are the few I can remember presently... I wanna hear yours too, how has NL transformed/changed/affected your life, whether positively or negatively, any regrets?? Capablen writes, from FUTMx. 207 Likes 22 Shares |

The benefits i've enjoyed on Nairaland are so numerous to mention. This forum keeps me informed, educates me, relieves me of the day's stress as well as reveals various business and investment opportunities available in Nigeria. I'm tempted to say "anything and everything you need is on Nairaland". A big thanks to Seun, the Moderators, Super-moderators and all other members of this forum who make it very interesting. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Straight to the point, would not share testimonies, today is not sunday. It is quite unfortunate that Nairaland has lost the glory it was built on; undiluted content from Nairalanders. Mods here have now turned themselves to mini-gods. Delete your comments if it opposes their views (esp in the politics section). Get you banned if you decide to school their lovers. Close your threads if you open a solid come-back argument that totally flaws their shallow thoughts. And they never respond to mails, which you are paid to do so, its not a free job the last time I checked. Actions like these are diabolical and would definitely reduce the quality of content here on this forum, as indifferent viewers, guests and nairalanders are supposed to be entertained to well robust opinions from both sides of a coin. My humble submission. 50 Likes 8 Shares |
