miqos02:Yes u can but it depends on the kind of generator, I better pass my neighbor won't work, but I have not tried it on them cos I don't have one now, 20amp charger is ok for medium or large size generators, but those medium or small will not be able to power 30-50amp chargers, Hope I am correct ? those of u that have generators at home |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by FxDominion(m): 6:07pm On Mar 26, 2016 |
ceejay80: You are correct sir. I used my 40amps smart charger on my 4.5 kva generator, it almost snuff life out of it, then I had to stop. Better stll I think you can use your generator to charge your battery except for over-charging stuff of a thing. 1 Like |

FxDominion:The higher the amp of charger the higher kva generator u would need to be able to carry the charger, The first nairalander I helped install ,uses his 20amp charger with his generator |

Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by coderXO(m): 3:30am On Mar 29, 2016 |
martinz1: not quite; the runtime is more based on the rate of drain on the battery. what you have there is the total power stored. 1 Like |

coderXO: Partial truth. But you need to make it more understandable to the lay man. Truth is ceejay80s was looking at it mathematically, but in the real sense I think 12v ups will drain faster. You wonder why? "power loss due to induction". |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by temizeee(m): 8:38pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
bishop4life:please i will advise you not to jump into conclusion abt inverters.... Am sure you don't even own a multimeter what do u knw abt powerloss due to induction? U won prove u sabi something sir...... But i dont feel in 4 dat....... I sound rude oh yea..... I dont like people talk abt some one day Google search and come to d forum like they are professors in physics.. Break dat..... @coderXO already said it all, the simple answer is no matter the configuration be it 12/24v, with d same battery amperage capacity, that will only determine the TOTAL energy in the setups. But the rate at which you draw load from Those inverter will determine the run time. Simple as abc.... Wetin be power loss due to induction.......froshh 2 Likes |

coderXO:read my comment again, and read ur comment , they don't fall into place I was talking of parallel connection vs series connection and u are talking of rate of drain, they are two different thing entirely everybody knows that if u suck a battery fast it will die in a short time |

Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by bishop4life(m): 10:03pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
temizeee: I am used to rudeness so I don't feel as bad as you want. To topic: There are many factors that determine how fast your battery drain. But all things being equal (the battery capacity and load), a 12v ups will tend to draw load more than a 24v ups of same power rating. Why? I mentioned it earlier but let me broaden it. If the number of turns in primary coil of a 12v-220v transformer is 10, that of a 24v-220v is 20. This simply means the resistance of a 24v system is halve that of a 12v system . Now don't think the current rating of the primary coil will be altered, cos to do that you have to reduce the wire size of the coil. And do you know what will happen if you do? The coil will get burnt at full load cos even though the wire length has been extended, the emf (electromotive force) has been double. I am not a guru, so I stand to be corrected. I know you are full of multimeters shaa, so open both systems, read their primary coil resistance, then come back and show more rudeness. And for your info, I have a diploma in EE. To secure it I spent 4hrs daily in the workshop and three hours in the classroom for two years. So I did more practical than theory. Even if you are a professor in Physics, as long as it's from any Nigerian University, don't even think you will beat me in power electronics. Criticism and correction are allowed, but try to be polite to people especially on a faceless forum. God bless You 7 Likes |

[quote author=bishop4life post=44232280] You are a big foooool! U have just an ORDINARY NATIONAL DIPLOMA and you feel like a god already to be saying you are better than a Professor of Physics. So ignorant. Its not ur fault,it is the way of a typical Nigerian student, who always think they are better than their lecturers. Do you think to be a Prof. is childs play... As far as i'm concerned an OND holder like u is no diffrent from an SSCE holder. You'd better enlighten yourself. |

Ceejay, saint and all am still having issues charging the system. I ve replaced both the smart charger and UPS but the issues still persist. I am suspecting the battery. When I use the 200amps battery, it drains quickly within 1hour. I am thinking of buying new 100 amps brand new battery. |

@darkhorizon and @bishop4life can we pls sheath our swords and go back to what we've always upheld on this thread which is friendship and learning. Una better pass me na; una go school me na "Ota akara" na him me I go oh, with my slate and kpanaka. Please gentlemen I say gentlemen cos I see us as such, let's leave our academic laurels at home and move forward. All comments and suggestions are valid. Both theoretical and practical. Each individual may choose to sway to whatever line of thot tickles their fancy that doesn't make it wrong, it's only a difference in perception. So pls let us let this argument be and continue our little academic and practical improvement. One love all 6 Likes |

9ijaprince: Brotherly, like ceejay80s suggested try and charge the battery using ur smart charger for at least 6hrs, if it still doesn't retain charge or discharges too soon, I would advise you take it back to the seller, but if it's past the warranty period u might try a lil trick I learnt a while back; get a regular car battery charger preferably a 2-5amp charger and connect to ur battery, leave it charging for about 24hrs, then plug ur smart charger to it and allow to charge till it indicates it's full. Then connect it to ur load; check the rate of discharge, if there's no improvement then u've lost that battery. NB: Second hand batteries were only proposed in this setup for the singular reason of managing cost. Please and please if you can afford a brand new battery it will definitely do the job better and take u longer. My opinion sha...... if anyone feels differently pls comment 2 Likes |
