guys please I want to ask between streaming videos and downloading videos, which consumes data the most.?/

Assuming similar video quality in both cases, then the instantaneous data cost for streaming and downloading will be the same. In the long run, however, if it's a video you wish to watch several times, then the cost of streaming, (Cstream), would scale proportionally with the number of times, (Nwatch) you watch the video that costs 'P', whereas the cost of downloading is a one off payment, which could make downloading significantly cheaper than streaming, depending on how many times you actually watch the video.

That is,
Cstream = Nwatch X P

Whereas,
Cdownload = P (Irrespective of how many times watched)

this quest requires us to analyse the comparative cost of streaming and downloading video of the same quality and size. but see our comments. that's why some of us don't do well in exams.
Re: Streaming Or Downloading Videos, Most Cheaper?? by omokenny94a(m): 9:26am On Mar 31, 2016
I believe downloading is cheaper because if you are streaming and you have interest to watch again it consumes more data(mb) but when you download you can watch over and over again without extra charge.

Streaming is expensive while downloading makes sense. There are website where you can download some video and you will be given the options of Mp4 or GP format. You can even choose low quality or high quality videos. Above all,you can still revisit your download anytime thereby saving your data.

i streamed a 10 min youtube video and it consumed more than 70mb. Dat same video i downloaded at 25mb so downloading is better

Streaming is cheaper bro. U probably streamed on 480p or 720p HD. If u download the same content with same HD quality, trust me u will use more than 25mb. Hold on a minute, did u just say 10 mins video for 25mb? Dude u must have downloaded a very low quality video.

Downloading is cheaper. Streaming requires a fast internet connection too ...atleast 3g.

But with my GPRS...download continues

On a slow internet downloading is better, but it doesn't mean it is cheaper. For example if u want to watch a 30 mins video with good quality, it might be Better to download if ur internet is slow. Even if it takes 5 hrs to download u can be doing other things while it downloads. If that video cost u say 200mb of data, streaming it will only cost u about 120mb but u need to have a fast internet to stream.

Streaming uses less data than downloading. It is only in this part of the world that people still download music or videos and that is due to slow internet. I can stream on spotify all night and end up using like 80mb listening to more than 30 tracks. If I am to download the tracks, each track will cost me roughly 5mb. Now do the maths urself. Also yesterday I watched a 3 hours YouTube video on 480p and used about 850mb. I'm sure if I am to download with such quality I'll use about 1.2-1.5gb.

op stop being lazy, this problem could enhance your ingeneity, and you become creative by testing it out.

Depending on the importances of the video, what is the content meant for?
Watching,studying,leisure.

if it is a tutorial and i need to see the writing, lettering and codes,i download it.

if i just need to listen,i download the lowest quality of the video, preferably 3gp or mp3,data management.

Use firefox and google video addon, and download every and any plugin related to video, and start studying and observing the one's you would like and move on from there.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-video-downloader/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/video-downloader-profession/

follow the above links,on the sites search box, enter video addon for more.

the ones, you aren't interested in,can be uninstalled or removed by going to tools>>Addon

or press CTRL+SHFT+A

Downloading is good if u like rewatching ur content, but it takes more data to download a video than stream it assuming both are of same quality. I use to have an Apple TV about 3 yrs ago. They have option of renting or buying a movie. When u buy u download it and 1 HD movie takes between 1.5gb-2gb depending on the length. But when u rent and stream the same movie u will only use about 700mb of data.

If I want to watch music video, its streaming all the way because I will only watch it ONCE (and I'll still watch it again on Dstv anyway so no need to download). But if it is a very good movie then I will download and keep it for future watching. But I will never download a nollywood movie because they are not worth rewatching, so I only stream them once and thats it.
