first 3.5 months is much for melange,some good stock even get to table size in that time. Many things determine growth- space, feeding quality, water mgt, your fingerlings/juveniles quality and health of your fishes etc, without mincing words there's room, but first determine which of the mentioned paramaters i wrote is affecting their productivity i.e why d delay to get to 600g, maybe your water mgt

For the fingerlings you can stock , let me give you a valid calculation system you can use: length x width x depth x 7.5= u get the gallons of water in your tank/pond, multiply it by 3.79 to get it converted to US GALLONS, then divide by 10 or 12 & u get d you need to raise table size in your pond. Double it if melange, if your water quality or mgt is great,stock 10-15% more ,pls do d calculation, thanks

i want to draw attention to d capital letter "US GALLONS", i wrote previously it is litres after u had gallons of water from d calculation. @excelsiorfarm, I am not contesting your ability to manage that density with whatever method you use. It may just be a little bit high for some people (newbies) and probably that's the reason they may not achieve table size at the time they set for themselves and i have noticed some comments i regards to this. That's all.

Guys am happy for this thread. I will be starting my fish farm by middle of next month.we intend to start with 2000 fingeerlins(1k each from different suppliers) I will update the house on d day to day activities in d farm.
We want to use plastic tank instead of normal concrete pond.

We will start clearing the farm plus the fencing of the place dis weekend by Gods grace.

Guru? only good fishfarmers & experience fishfarmers exist.Divide your litres with 5-6,you should get a managable stocking density for your answer. Note: even if u put just 20 fishes in a 3000 litres, if your feeding isn't right i.E. overfeeding, you will still kill those 20 fishes in that volume of water. initially i wrote 20-24, wrong(Mistake), apology,but i don't give excuses.The valid way to get what you stock in any pond capacity is after your knowledge of your water volume in litres, divided by 10-12 for table size,after getting this number multiply by 2 for your melange. Allowances of more, if better experience or have frequent water change. This formula still remains valid as i have previously illustrated from d beginning of d thread till tomorrow

I will say the fewer the better. I wont do 750 fishes for 5000 litres, that might be so much.

For grow out fish, I will say 30 fishes max for every 500 litres , which makes it 300 fishes( max) for 5000 litre.This is based on my first and only experience. If you do more than this, the pond will be uncomfortable for the fish when they reach 4 months and they will try to jump out , one after the other. You can increase the no if you are doing melange. Since melange are mostly sold at 500g, u can multiply this no by 2, so 60 melanges for every 500 litres. 120 melanges for 1000litres.

Remember you are not filling the pond to the brim.

You are getting it wrong. What Excel meant is that you can stock up to 1000 for melange in the 5000 litre tank. But this must be followed with effective water management. Thanks

I once used an earator and I found it very effective especially in nurturing fries... One should take into consideration the water temparature excesive heat deters the growth of the fish...

my ogas in the house pls what steps should be taken to normalise or control excessive heat and water temperature in order to assist fish growth?

saheed,my advise is stop feed formulation for now ,because feeds that is not perfectly dried mostly contain aflatoxin which kill fishes,tarpaulin normally stores fungi & bacteria & normally have slime,it is best to clean with foam & iodine,but u hav to remove d fishes.concerning d use of tetracyline 3-4 capsules is enough to mix with water of about a feet high,this measure is mostly for extreme case of disease & when they cease to eat,afta 1Hr top up

please note that tarpaulin comes in different width 8ft,10ft, 16ft etc. it is sold in yard but note that 1 yard=3feet. so you must determine the length of what u want in feet and convert to yard. i hope u understand?
