They allocated CBN positions among themselves but threw up police recruitment to us so that we will guard and serve their children in political offices and CBN, just as our fathers served them.

Its a pity.
but you will agree with me that it is the truth. This day employed on our fathers, now they are repeating it on us.

The OP is a good example of CGFRN. He represents everything wrong with a typical Nigerian youth. He flip flops from one political side to another seeking protection from the highest bidder. He should look into the mirror first before preaching to others.

First off let's define 'youth'. What age bracket is that ?

18-35 year olds ?

If The current 18-35 year olds I see on this forum represent the average Nigerian youth, they will do nothing spectacular for this country. The older generation has messed with their heads so much, I don't think anything tangible can come out of this generation either.

By flipflop you mean not sticking neck for any politician unlike sycophantic elements like you I guess. this sir, I agree...

as for highest bidder, no politician whether dead or alive can come out today to say I was or I am on his or her payroll. in fact, I turned down a few.... FACT!

gists:
Wail on, waileerr life gets in your way
This is sheer hypocracy - a failed subtle attempt to cleverly label this administration anti-youth.
While I agree the youth need to wake up, how come the OP is just realizing now? He didn't know the past "youthful" and supposedly "youth friendly" gej didn't make any serious attempt to correct this anomaly?

Besides, which youth are we talking about? Is it the ones that go about beheading people for politicians like we saw in rivers rerun? Is it the ones that are probably more corrupt than the old cargos? Some will consider Ibori a youth when he became the delta state governor in 1999. Where is he today? What about the past edo state gov. Igbinedion. "Lucky boy" was just about 40yrs in 1999. The "common sense" twitter general has effectively told us that PDP does not have deserving youth from his constituency. And what on earth did PDP do to people like Donald Duke? The nest of killer have perfected the act of killing the political ambition of those (youthful and not-so-youthful candidates) that may be considered deserving.

The current political landscape does not leave much room for deserving youths without "god fathers". How many youths who have not embezzled from somewhere can afford the governorship ticket of political parties (not to mention that of the presidency). Money is the name of the Nigerian politics and anyone that does not have it (and a strong godfather) is just wasting his/her time. This is what need to change first before condemning all the youth as a generation.

Having said this, the youths need to be more proactive in politics. But then, I know for sure the youth have and continue to make Nigeria proud in other sectors of our national lives.
go check my antecedent and see how I lashed Jonathan bwfore and even after his presidency.

as for the youths, I'm not referring to the Children of the thieving class that are there as fronts for their fathers.

A generation that can't lead their society is no pride.

ndcide:
The greatest problem is daft partisanship that I'm seeing all over.

Some of us youths are not interested in principles, but in methods.

I thought those who Campaigned against the last government did so on the need for a kind of Renaissance. But all I see are people who are not ready to interrogate their beliefs, evaluate their choices and make demands that shows that they are for any good government but for no government.

All I see is brazen sycophancy with those who want to justify their votes. By clinging to the narrative of the past wasn't good enough also.

No employer will keep an employee who blames his inabilities on his predecessors. But in Nigerian politics, we are made to believe that's the right thing.

No youth will find his way to political power if we as youth don't believe we can. It's not going to happen if we want to protect any government just to justify our votes. The only way out is if we stop sycophancy and show seriousness in demands and sincerity of purpose. When you are sincere and consistent in demands, even the super natural forces affirms it.

It will not happen if the answer to, set up a cabinet, is what did the previous government do, or the answer to why is power deteriorating is, what did the other government do. Or the answer to what is your economic plan so that private sectors can align is, what did the other government do for sixteen years.
Or the answer to the question of why is the purchasing power of Nigerians deteriorating so fast, is, there's so much damage in the last sixteen years.

Until the youth refuse to conform, sorry there's no way out. The youth will not be given a chance. Fact! The youths will be used as an instrument for political contests nothing more. It will remain so until we become absolutely uninterested in a buhari or Jonathan government but in a government that is condemned to deliver now or die out.

That's the only way out. Who stays on the path of a moving trailer without brakes. Until the youth get to that point forget it.

I also speak to myself.
You have spoken well sir

You have a nerve Tonye!! Generation of cowards ? You should be ashamed of yourself.
Although, I'm happy you rightly identified yourself within your definition of coward; sadly you included many Nigerian- youths who have sacrificed their lives to change the status quo for what they believe in. Examine these 2 ongoing instances:

Boko-Haram (BH) - I do not share their beliefs or their approach, but BH have consistently challenged the despotic Nigerian state you alluded to in your write up. Many lives have been lost in their quest to determine their preferred future, in the hope to rid themselves of this crop of Nigerian leaders that have strangled our collective future. We all know their modus-operandi and we all share the pains inflicted by their quests. On this matter, nothing more need be added.

Biafra - It is claimed that a million Biafrans died in the civil war – I suppose those don’t make your cut of youths in this write up, nevertheless the impact of this genocide reverberates in the region. For those that make the cut, they have been risking their lives and losing it while you editorialise on nairaland. They seek (with grave implications) to change the status quo of Nigeria. Notwithstanding their non-violence stance, they have met with castigation from youths all across Nigeria (on laptops by the way), who cheer-on the Nigerian military apparatus as they KILL these agitators of real change.
Now listen Tonye, you may not have killed any of these people or even agree with their quest, but do not dance on the graves by calling them cowards. Whatever hope you have for Nigeria is what is being exploited to maintain your bondage in this failed state. Nigeria must seize to be for us so-called youths to determine our futures - the sooner this happens, the better.

First let me thank you for calling me out with your points.

1. With due respect sir I don't see anything worthy of emolulation from book haram terrorists. this is a group that has been killing non state actors, raping and kidnapping. They are cowards and worse than the youths I'm referring to. They are a cancer to the society.

2. As for the Biafra agitators, I admire their determination and zeal even though I don't share in their ideology. I respect their choice despite the fact that I don't subscribe to their form. But I Never called the victims cowards. When I said this is a coward generation, I didn't refer to 100% of youths. There are a percentage of brae men and women but these people are negligible within the larger population.

I'm not exempting myself from this generation of cowards

On your first point 'Nigeria' is the cancer of our societies - but I suppose we have to agree to disagree on that.

On your second point, there are many Biafran agitators, alive today and risking their lives, that you have called cowards.

By the way, what % of youths do you refer to as cowards. My advise to you at this point is to stop digging, although I've always admired your knack of seeing a position through.

Olisa - The struggle for independence was done by old men. On the year of Nigeria's independence, Azikiwe was 56, Awolowo was 51, Bello was 50, each of them spent at least a decade as non-youths fighting for Nigeria's independence.

Compare this to the first coup plotters that wanted to restructure the Nigeria a few years after these men took charge: Nzeogwu - 23, Ademoyega - 25, Ifeajuna - 25.

The age is not in question here; its the idea. Nigeria needs to be dissolved but we need both old and young to pull together.

Incidentally, it was young men that headed both sides of Nigeria's bloody civil war. One may question their judgement in not negotiating a settlement earlier - its probably the age.
