This is very true. I live in Malaysia where there r lots of Hausa/fulani people. But they rarely cause trouble or make noise. They r always together in one close unit without been extravagant or lousy. Good ambassadors!

I'm surprised this thread has gone this far, I'm just seeing this thread after the last time I checked it, thanks everyone for your answers it is interesting to know there are many Hausa's and Fulanis abroad

jpphilips:

UK, is majorly a christian state, if you wanna see hausa- fulani try, Qatar, UAE, Saudi and much recently Turkey
How many times have you visited Saudi as a supposed christian?

understood, I get it, based on the answers religion is part of the reason at times where people migrate to a extent. Majority of the Nigerians I have bumped into have been nigerians of southern tribes, mostly yoruba and igbo.

abdulplayer02:
so you have been to the uk but you are still making such mistake:peopleS
I'm Nigerian american, born and raised in America and have visited the UK but have never bumped into a hausa or a fulani in the UK. In America only twice. So sorry if thats disappointing to you

The article gives some insight but not entirely true. Am Hausa/fulani though a Christian, however I know having lived/living in western Europe and north America, I know there are alot of hausa/fulanis comunities here.religion though play a role but very inconsequential. They stay away from overal Nigerian comunities because they are not into parties and other social vices that plagued alot of our southern brothers and sisters. Another reason, an average southerner sees an hausa or fulani person as dulard and unintelligent I experienced that alot in my church even though by far I am well more educated and than majority of them. So I I'd rather hangout with hausa Muslims than alot of some southern Christians. For instance there was a day the pastor of my church referred to boko haram as my brothers even though he has known me for over 5 years as a Christian, he still sees me more as a northerner than Christian child of God and that's very myopic even though I corrected that impression,it still hurts to be referred to as brother to Boko Haram. Don't get me wrong I have alot of southerners as confidents and friends, my fiancee is even an igbo girl.

interesting thanks for your answer

She is Hausa. If she can't speak Fulfulde and only Hausa then she is Hausa. The two cultures are quite different.

Calling Fulani and Hausa the same thing is very disrespectful. It's like calling a Yoruba and Igbo the same thing.

Yeah she even says so in her article:

'But the Hausa and Fulanis- two distinct groups united by Islam, inter-marriage and history- remain mysterious to many Nigerians abroad due to their relative invisibility.'

Simple: They're local champions that thrive in lawlessness and disorder, the kind seen in Nigeria. They get claustrophobic in organized societies with actual laws and regulations so they don't bother making the trip. Countries like Yemen, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are more likely the places you see them vacationing to.
I don't think you know what you talking about. Right now I can think of like 10 families living in the UK and not in any of the countries u listed above. I can think of lots of families in the US as well. You clearly just know the local ones that are lawless just like most Nigerians. And The hausas are the lawful Nigerians in the UK. You can't see them doing any dodgy thing and you can't see them living there illegally. Stop being a bigot pls! And ofcourse you can mistake them for East Africans or even black Arabs.

Which culture is dominant in your home? That is the discerning criterium.
If it is Hausa culture, language and customs- then you are Hausa, not Fulani.
And vice- Versa

Are you on drugs? Bantus are not Nigerians at all. If we go by history, no one are Nigerians. Why do Bantus sometimes not speak with intelligence?

Loool! You've adopted the whole bantu thing too? But I don't get what these idiotts mean when they claim a certain ethnicity is not Nigerian. Wtf does that mean? Nigeria was formed in 1914, so wtf is their point?

That's still 2 identities not one.
Hausa-Fulani as one group doesn't exist.

You have a point but people are used to hearing hausa-fulani together as one group and non of these groups make a effort to make a separation from each other culturally since religion rules everything in northern Nigeria.

You will be looked at in a funny manner if you mention "Hausa-Fulani" in any African country outside of Nigeria. They are two very different groups with only religion in common. Cameroon, Niger Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Guinea, Guinea Bissau all know the difference.
