so in the spirit of giving back, here is what I have to share WHAT ARE BENEFITS OF EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA? 1.Allows you to rest if your labor is prolonged. By reducing the discomfort of childbirth, some woman has a more positive birth experience. 2. Normally, an epidural will allow you to remain alert and be an active participant in your birth. 3. If you deliver by cesarean, an epidural anesthesia will allow you to stay awake and also provide effective pain relief during recovery. 4.When other types of coping mechanisms are no longer helping, an epidural can help you deal with exhaustion, irritability, and fatigue. 5. An epidural can allow you to rest, relax, get focused, and give you the strength to move forward as an active participant in your birth experience. Please note, the use of epidural anesthesia during childbirth is continually being refined, and much of its success depends on the skill with which it is administered WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA? 1. Epidurals may cause your blood pressure to suddenly drop. For this reason, your blood pressure will be routinely checked to help ensure an adequate blood flow to your baby. If there is a sudden drop in blood pressure, you may need to be treated with IV fluids, medications, and oxygen. 2. You may experience a severe headache caused by leakage of spinal fluid. 3. After your epidural is placed, you will need to alternate sides while lying in bed and have continuous monitoring for changes in fetal heart rate. Lying in one position can sometimes cause labor to slow down or stop. 4. You might experience the following side effects: shivering, ringing of the ears, backache, soreness where the needle is inserted, nausea, or difficulty urinating. 5. You might find that your epidural makes pushing more difficult and additional medications or interventions may be needed such forceps or cesarean. 6. For a few hours after the birth the lower half of your body may feel numb. Numbness will require you to walk with assistance. 7. In rare instances, permanent nerve damage may result in the area where the catheter was inserted. 8. Though research is somewhat ambiguous, most studies suggest that some babies will have trouble “latching on” causing breastfeeding difficulties. 9. Other studies suggest that a baby might experience respiratory depression, fetal Mal-positioning, and an increase in fetal heart rate variability, thus increasing the need for forceps, vacuum, cesarean deliveries. http://askthegynaedoctor.com/notes-on-epidural-%E2%80%AAanesthesia-%E2%80%AAthe-%E2%80%AAnew-%E2%80%AAnormal-in-%E2%80%AAchild-%E2%80%AAbirth/ 6 Likes |

Dabira19: I think it's more important to find a doctor willing to handle a vbac. The hospital takes care of you for the duration of time that the doctor prescribes so in the absence of complications a vbac candidate is treated by the hospital in the same way as any Vaginal birth. 1 Like |

Dabira19: 1st time post here... your search would be best done for doctors, not hospitals... cos there are hundreds of doctors performing that procedure in Houston.... Not used any, just do a search via internet for ob/gyns affiliated to the hospitals you wanna use. Can't put names here for obvious reasons... (Not used any...just been following this thread and it's been quite informative) Best of luck 4 Likes |

omodadi: Are u in Lagos or Abuja? Uber works in both places so you can try it out here first However it's not a big deal at all The only snag about using it from the airport will be how will the driver call you? I'm not sure they call international numbers so u may need to use a local no to activate it first That's what happened in my case. The app kept telling me to verify my no and dint send a code until I used a USA no 1 Like |

Uncle umersijjad, if you don't have enough money to give birth in the us, it's not a do or die, give birth in naija. Your wife is not a citizen, hence she is not entitled to use medical aid of any form.( my two cents) UmerSajjad: 6 Likes |

Hello Nairalanders, I am impressed by the wealth of Knowledge shared on this site. May God bless you all. I had my B1/B2 Visa in March last year and i travelled to the US for a conference and vacation in June-July (3 weeks) . during the interview, i was asked if i was pregnant and i said no, cos the last thing on my mind was a baby. fast forward to April 2016 and i'm a few week preggers with the plan of returning to the US to birth my child. I"m however worried about the POE which by the way is Baltimore (BWI) as i wasnt pregnant when i was granted the visa. Kindly advise me on the right step(s) to take. Thank you. |

Petdaughter: Thanks for the tongue tie enlightenment and with what I am seeing here, it looks like its quite common (and scary). But Olokings didnt say what you did was wrong o, he just shared his experience and highlighted that it can also be done here, for other mamas who may face the same problem or may not be able to afford it at that particular point in time. It's like circumcision or ear piercing. Some people rather get it done when they get back home, you get? 4 Likes |

After delivery, my hubby bought it in Naija at their Ikoyi office and it cost 10% of the price of my new York to Lagos ticket... not 10% of the return ticket price but 10% only of the New York to Lagos part of the trip. simplysu: |
