I want to change my course ( in jamb) frm mbbs to Bds, bt am stuck, my reasons
unis admit more medicine to dentistry, medicine after sch wil go for internship and rotate properly in all unit, bt in dentistry its different
work aspect medicine do have people comin 4 consult bt in dentistry especially in 9ja we all knw nobody cares about his or her teeth talk less of goin to a dentist for a procedure
pls jst wanna get thngs right , no offence mbok and change of course is endin dis week in jamb. Need sum1 to convince me that there's more to dentistry than teeths , pls once again no offence, jst an aspirants who knws nothing and wanna learn more
the basic knowledge people have of dentistry is just the teeth but there is more to dentistry than teeth . . more like the head. . the idea people have of dentistry is orthodontics, they don't know about the rest specialities . . browse about Oral and Maxillofacial surgery , it should enlighten you a bit . . but if you want to study dentistry, you must have passion for it cos its very herculean . . they write professional exams like Oral biology, operative techniques and prostodonthics e.t.c that their fellow medics do not write

Just listen to yourself.you know nothing about the course,so you've only come to spit hogwash. Why not make proper/well detailed research rather than displaying gross ignorance on public forum.Next time, put your question in a more constructive manner.

search Dentistry and dental surgery as a career on naira land if you want proper enlightenment or better still go for medicine because you know everything about it.Goodluck"

Medical doctors .... 80% of d doctors, students and aspirants in NIGERIA 2day didn't study or want to study medicine because they give a damn about people health or life... They just let wanted 2 study medicine because:
1. Parental and environmental pressure
2. Respect they get from people (though not really from me I.e if u don't deserve it)
3. Money

Parents from birth talk dier children into becoming doctors.. 4 way? ... Just to show off or brag...
Parents of d olden days believe d only course u study in d university are:
1. Medicine
2. Law
3. Pharmacy
4. Nursing
5. Engineering
6. Accounting

They are not well informed about how d medical career really is.. Wouldn't blame dem.. They want wat is best 4 dier child...

My question is medicine d only course dat brings respect? Money? And oda blah blah.....

That's y I like d white world... Deir kids study wat dey love and still mk in very well in life....

Luk at d jamb applicants every year wat does DAT tell u? ...

Every course has a angle that brings in money ... Its all abt ideaidea THINK

The whites luk at doctors lyk .. "Hey hez a doctor .. U only Eva go to wen u are sick or need check up" nothing interesting abt his job... People in dat Field really want to save people's lives... Dey don't over luk dem lyk in Nigeria here... Just a piece of ADVICE ...

Guys, please i need your reviews on the following books:
A) physiology
Guyton vs Sembulingan . At UI we are advised to use guyton. Lecturers say sembulingam is too simple for med students cry.

B) Embryology
Saddler vs Developing young. never used young

C) Biochemistry
Linnpicott vs harpers. I use vasudevan. Harper's is more of an after thought. But the 30th edition isn't so bad

Thank you.

Is it possible to specialize in orthopedic surgery here in Nigeria, nd if it is possible, where could this be done?

Yeah, they are a lot of them in Nigeria, National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbogbi, Lagos is one of the best

Here in unilag, Most people use sebumlingam, but, the best "distinction" students use Guyton or Guyton and ganong.
Why Well, because the fact remains that most american books are better than Indian books in the sense that, Indian books are designed to make you PASS

B) Embryology
Saddler vs Developing young.
Well, Developing Human is actually more detailed than Saddler but, I think you don't need that much extreme knowledge in embryology, you just need their Clinical correlation cos you're actually training to be doctors not embryologist, so both textbooks are good but I'll give it to Developing human

C) Biochemistry
Linnpicott vs harpers.
Harper !!!!!!!!!!
D) histology
Junqueira vs inderbir singh

It's definitely Junqueira ! Inderbir singh's diagrams are not as good as Junqueira
Thank you.
