Matteo Darmian, 4 -- Replaced Fosu-Mensah in the 68th minute. A disastrous intervention as he was caught badly out of position for the first goal and arguably for the third too. His plummet in form has been baffling and disappointing for a player who began so well at the club this autumn.

No, Spurs saw the weakness in LvG's tactics after half time. I'm just watching the post match analysis where they showed his formation was skewed and unbalanced with players on the left side leaving the right only for the RB and that's the weak spot Spurs utilized.

So it is very possible we would have lost with Mensah still on cos I'm yet to see Darmian's error that led to any of the goals. Our CBs fumbled big time.

Lots of players like Mata, Lingard and Rojo were poor in the game and he made a waste of the sub.

What I don't even understand is his use of Young as a CF if not maybe to try and contain Spurs

That's to show you how poor our CBs were and I must say Mensah was good today but trying to blame the loss on Darmian introduction is wrong. Spurs had chance to be leading 1st half and DDG made saves in the 2nd half even before his intro. Spurs is also known to build into their games gradually and reason they score mostly in 2nd half.

For the 1st goal, the error started from Smalling who went for the aerial ball due for Blind and collided with him. Smalling and other DM yet allowed Kane to escape with the ball to make that pass. I thought the only thing Darmian would have done was to try and keep Eriksen offside.

2nd goal was as a result of the failure of Carrick/Smalling and Rojo to clear the aerial ball while I don't understand how he was expected to prevent that cross that didn't even come from the edge of the box for the third. The fact is Spurs overloaded that flank in the 2nd half and Mata we know doesn't usually track back.

Only LvG would use our slowest player, Mata, on the right wing against Rose and a team that attack mostly through the left. I even saw Blind on the RB position few times in the 1st half and was like "is this tactics or what?"

The first goal was the fault of Smalling and Blind. They both went for same ball (dropping ball) and missed it. Two or three of our players against one, we lost the battle. The ball went to Darmian's angle for a cross, he was not even alert to the run of the Spurs player who crossed the ball.

Second goal came from a free kick from Darmian's angle. I have forgotten what led to the free kick, but I supposed it was his poor marking. Then Rojo couldn't jump high to head away the set play. Mensah would have headed that away with fun.

The third goal again was from Darmian's angle. He just allowed the crossing from his side.

The major problem was not the goals, but the pressure Darmian put us into while he came on. Apart from winning his first tackle, he couldn't do anything meaningful afterwards, either defending or going forward.

Surprised Valencia wasn't introduced since he's more offensive and Mata taken off for Herrera. But when we didn't even have a CF cos the coach was being conservative then you won't be surprised.
