lovarboy: Bring out your points from here about why criminology.. Criminology is the study of the nature, extent, causes, and consequences of crime and criminal behaviour in society. The nature of the criminal justice system, and the experiences of those involved in it – including offenders, victims, police officers and others – are also of interest. The areas which interest me most including crime prevention, social justice, policing, violence against women, drug policy, sex work, prisons, youth, media representations of crime, political violence, human rights, victimology and cybercrime. 1 Like |

don4ye: Thanks for the response. I want to know if it will be late applying for admission in any of the school i listed. Because of work exigencies (on training presently) i will be on 3 weeks leave after the training. About the standardized exam, my course does not require it (according to the school requirements) do i need to bother? |

hi2chuxy: Firstly check when the schools admission deadline for Fall 2016, you can even call them to know what good. About the standardized exam, na 50 50. VO may ask and he may not but it is good to write one if he asked to show seriousness. |

slimmy2005: slimmy2005: On a second thought, emailing DHS to transfer his SEVIS record from the old ID to the new ID would not work at this point given the fact that he has already obtained his visa with the old SEVIS ID and that old SEVIS ID is printed on his visa. This may pose problems for him at the POE if he lands with an I-20 with a different SEVIS number from the one on his visa. I encountered this problem as well during my time. I went to the embassy in August 2013 and obtained my student visa and later deferred my admission to Spring 2014. On being re-issued my I-20 I noticed immediately that I was given a new SEVIS ID. I immediately contacted my ISSS office letting them know that I had already paid my SEVIS fee and obtained my visa with the first ID and I would need my I-20 with the first ID to avoid issues at the POE and they re-issued me another I-20 for spring with the first SEVIS ID and I entered the POE at JFK without any issues. As a matter of fact, one of the conditions for transfer of SEVIS payment from one ID to another by DHS is that you MUST NOT have obtained your visa using the first ID (which UNIXLover already did) nor entered the US already using the first ID you are transferring from. Thus, in this case UNIXLover would not even be eligible to transfer his SEVIS ID from the old to the new one since he has already obtained his visa. SEVIS fee transfer would be possible had he not yet obtained his visa. Just like I did, he would need to contact his school to resend him another I-20 with the first SEVIS ID. 3 Likes |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by Nobody: 3:17pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
bigfrancis21:No at all, there is no rule for such. Even if the SEVIS ID that was printed on your visa is not the same one you have on your new I-20. Austin, innovativeame who is a close friend in Normal, Illinois didn't request for another I-20. All he need to do is to call DHS and his SEVIS record would be updated. His case was even a little bit funny. His school refused to defer his admission automatically, the requirement for deferment means you have to re-apply. He re-applied and got a new I-20 with new SEVIS ID called DHS and his record was updated. It is the same school he is heading to and US works more with whats on record. In as much as what they have on record is what is on your I-20 you're very much good to go. I can message the two nairalanders that did same to come here and attest to the fact that you don't need a new I-20. NB: Not all school will issue you same sevis ID when you defer. 1 Like |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by bigfrancis21: 3:18pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
UNIXLover: I'm sorry, I take that back. My earlier recommendation stands. You DON'T NEED to contact DHS since you have already obtained your visa using the first SEVIS ID. Contacting DHS to transfer your payment to the new SEVIS ID would mean your current visa with the old ID is null and void and you would have to go back to the embassy again for a new visa issued in that ID. Contact your ISSS today immediately telling them you received your new I-20 and that the SEVIS ID on it is different from the first one you were issued which you have used to pay your SEVIS fee of $200 and also obtained your F-1 visa with it and that you are please requesting them to resend you another I-20 with the former SEVIS ID to avoid having issues at the Port of Entry. Then scan and attach your F-1 visa to the email and send. They will respond immediately and prepare a new I-20 for you with the former SEVIS ID and mail it out to you. That is how I resolved mine during my time. It may take like 1 month before you receive the new I-20 but given that your travel date is around august/September I presume, there is still time of about 3 to 4 months before then, so you can be patient to receive your new I-20. |

hi2chuxy: Good just be preparing questions like this ahead Why are you going for your masters now? What have you been doing after your degree? What post do you head at your work? What is your duty? How much do you earn? Who is your sponsor.. Bla bla bla more and more and more.. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by bigfrancis21: 3:34pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
slimmy2005: Maybe you don't know I actually helped and guided Innovativeme during his admission process and his SEVIS fee transfer process. I am aware of the issues he faced and why DHS SEVIS transfer was the best option at that time. You can call him and ask him. I actually guided him on transferring his SEVIS ID to the new one because his case is a little bit different from UNIXLover's and for the sake of privacy I won't go into further details on here about it. Actually, there are rules guiding SEVIS transfer requests or else the request is rejected. Below is a snapshot of the conditions by DHS on SEVIS transfer: Most people with this issue first contact their school and have them resend them a new I-20. In the case of UNIXLover he still has time until august/september to travel and is, thus, not in a hurry to travel to the US. Most schools would resend a new I-20 once there is valid reason, just in my own case and unixlover's case. However, if worse comes to worst, and his school does not resend a new I-20 then he can try the transfer option with DHS and hope that he is not sent back to Nigeria at the Port of Entry (POE) for inconsistency in the SEVIS numbers on his visa and I-20. If this is a risk he is willing to take, it is up to him. For me, it is better safe than sorry. He already confirmed from the embassy that he would need a new visa with the new SEVIS ID if he is to go to the US with the new I-20. Mind you, I am not saying, whatsoever, that transfer with DHS does not work, it works only if the applicant has not yet obtained his visa, as confirmed on the DHS website below. Once an applicant has obtained his visa with a SEVIS ID, his information is sent by the US embassy to DHS and is in the database of Department of Homeland Security with that SEVIS ID and for this reason they would not approve transfer requests if a visa has already been obtained. If unixlover had not yet obtained his visa, then sure yes the best option would be to transfer his payment to the new I-20. https://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/faq#_Toc81222150 2 Likes

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by Nobody: 3:42pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
bigfrancis21:You are wrong. Please, read the question again, this time slowly. "and want to participate in a different program" Those FAQ do not answer all questions, your best bet is to call them and explain to them and they would tell you if your transfer is possible or not. You don't need to pay another sevis fee or request for another I-20 with old sevis. All you need to do is to call dhs in as much as its same program and same school. It is as easy as that. I already send messages to Austin and Akin who did same to come online and tell you themselves. Note: They both got their visa before the transfer of SEVIS ID. I was the person who told him to contact you cos I was aware you deferred your admission as well. You can ask him yourself via bbm (I was with the Austin from day1) . You should know well he filled his DS160 in my house in Lagos. I gave him your contact for GRE registration which I encouraged and bullied him personally. So lets leave that side. There is nothing about his visa stuff I don't know. It is left for UNIXLover to use any channel available to him. I am only stating the obvious which I am 100% sure.
