@rajo4real,coderXO et al Thanks for your attention. The Solar panel came in a pack of 2 labeled 130 watts (so two packs=4 pieces). It was assembled last week Thurs and Unfortunately I don't have light for the past one week so have not charged with Nepa. I only tried charging with Gen once for 2hrs but charge controller still displayed 25.5 volts. I honestly don't know if my panels are facing west or south. I am based along Lagos-ibadan Express way after Berger. I also discovered my solar panel charges my battery at 1.4 A so armed with your analysis I have confidently called the installer to come check panel positions again. I was scared the fault was mine initially. Thanks so much for your contributions and will probably get a MMPT charge controller now. Thanks everybody once again! N.b: attached is a picture of my Solar Panel right now. Is this the right position please? |

billyG: is it the raw material we dont have or the technical expertise to manufacture solar panel, deep cycle batteries, inverters, CC etc? Pls someone tell before I leave this country. |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by rajo4real(m): 6:16pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
zanyzara: From your pix, your panels are facing slightly off east (ur DSTV position) and this is extremely wrong. Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Check where the sun rises early in the morning and ensure your panels are tilted towards the opposite direction. With that you will be able to capture sun power till around 4pm - 5pm Because your panels are only working between 7am - 11am. Its better you face south or tilt towards west, you will have better yeild. Don't get discouraged bro, you can still manage the PWM till u get an MPPT. Cheers 1 Like |

Good day Oga Ceejay and everyone on this thread, especially the solar gurus. Is it adviceable to use a solar hybrid inverter (solar inverter with inbuilt 20A/30A charge controller) for the solar setup? |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by spyglaxx: 3:44am On Apr 12, 2016 |
@Zanizara 1.check the diodes at the back of the panel if they are very hot.you can remove them or replace them.2. check if the connection is in series connection. |

deekseen:Your charge controller should have an output equal to at least 10% of your battery(ies) AH. That's is, 20A CC for 200ah battery set up, 30A CC for 300ah and so on |

temizeee:Sign of DIY. I didn't understand how to attach using the holes under the panel, so I had to attach wood to the holes then wood to the roof. Adapt and survive. Please enlighten me about the proper way. |

timifakay:honestly it isn't bad idea someone did the same on YouTube chk diz link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciGVOFpyU-U&itct=CB0QpDAYBiITCJSIosaMiswCFYmrfgodUbINClIbNTAwIHdhdHQgc29sYXIgaW5zdGFsbGF0aW9u&client=mv-google&gl=NG&hl=en it's not good to lay solar panel just flat on the roof... In hotter days, high temp will reduce its efficiency... 1 Like |

Hi Guys, pls for those using inverter is there any significant impact on your Nepa Bill. I mean before and after. Need your advice guys |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by saint2ace(m): 7:33am On Apr 13, 2016 |
codemaster2much: codemaster2much, the answer is yes it does impact on your nepa bills because there's an appreciable pull when the inverter or ur external charger draws electricity to charge ur batteries; depending on the state of charge of the batteries the pull could either be high or low. If the batteries are deeply discharged then the pull is highest than when it's slightly discharged. But the truth is that pple with prepaid meters would feel it more as those using analogue meters will still get estimated bills and so it's all good for them. To understand what am saying use ur generator as a reference point, do u notice the pull when u charge ur batteries using either ur inverter, external charger or both; it's not a funny experience oh, my generator now burns 10ltrs of fuel in 6-7hrs, but the good thing is that the power takes me through for 24hrs with my fridge always on. So yes oh, there will be a SIGNIFICANT increase in ur electricity bills. But look at it this way, it's almost the same amount u would spend if the power is always on, so what u're doing is putting the power into the batteries and using it when there's no power. As simple as that, hope i've answered ur question 3 Likes |

Good morning Just read through the entire thread, long read Great work! I do have a few request, I was planning on going Solar until I realized yesterday that my batteries have packed up (bought them used and have used them for almost three years) So I need to replace them first, can anyone give me the contact of a seller of good grade used batteries. 150Ah/180Ah preferably and the cost. Not sure if the likes of Ceejay80's Oga Chidi have in stock 2. I would also like a contact of a seller of NOT-TOO-EXPENSIVE PV panels - 130W - 180W, 12V, mono crystal. 2b. Plus can one mix mono and poly together? That is eg 2 130W mono + 2 150W poly? 3. What is the average cost and brand of a good / recommendable Solar charger, PWM, yes I know MPPT are the best but unless I can get one for less than 30K I wouldnt bother for now Thanks, appreciate |

Ayostically:Get a small fridge and don't be in a hurry to buy one, make sure u go through its specifications , either through google or its users manual, u do not need a small ups for ur setup, u wull need to buy a bigger inverter (1500w-2000w) |

joehis2013:Yes!!!!! But the AV converter wey u go buy go cost u more than how much u will spend buying a used AV monitor in computer village, My guy, the truth is that u should go get ur self a monitor with an AV input, |
