Britain will have too much electricity this summer due to the growth in wind and solar farms, National Grid has forecast, warning it could be forced to issue unprecedented emergency orders to power plants to switch off. ...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/07/uk-will-have-too-much-electricity-this-summer-national-grid-fore/

Why are we behind in Nigeria? We are using obsolete methods of electricity generation and distribution. In the UK or other developed countries, you can sell electricity to government, no matter how little it is. You can feed excess solar, wind or even biogas generated electricity to the grid. Their method of power distribution and generation is decentralized. People are encouraged to invest in power no matter how little you produce.

Problem we have here is that everything power rests on government. No free market, no ingenuity. Things are me5sed up big time. Don't even know where to start. In the future, I'll encourage intellectuals on this forum to form a think tank forum. Perhaps we can come up with innovative solutions, perhaps government will listen. The present blame game is taking us nowhere.

If Buhari will make good his campaign promise of 40 Naira per liter of petrol, Nigerians through their various generating sets would surpass the UK in terms of power.

The answer to your question is simply Corruption

An average Nigerian in Power is corrupt they don't care about the masses all they care about is themselves and their families until this mentality is erased I don't see Nigeria moving forward cry

I love your post or at least line of thinking , however portable generators are very inefficient in fuel to power conversation. Solar farms can be built in far north, wind farms at our coastal regions. Individuals can in invest in grid-tied solar schemes. We burn millions of cubic meters of gas daily in flaring. We can build micro turbines and tie them to the grid. No need to wait for white elephant power projects. We need innovative and emergency response.

Nigeria today currently generates and evacuates zero MW of electricity after pumping billions of dollars into the power sector. Nigerians have accepted this given and resorted to self help of generating power through their various I better pass my neighbor generators. Now, Nigeria is amongst the biggest producers of crude yet imports fuel which is currently scarce andselling as high as 500 per liter! people are queuing and sleeping over at petrol stations to even buy at any given price yet nothing!

until we as a people sit down and tell ourselves the truth and eliminate all structures that were deliberately put in place to keep this geographical expression from getting even the basics of things right, there can be no meaningful progress even if Obama is made our president.

It is time we as a people use dialectics of thesis, antithesis and synthesis approach to solve our national problems.

Restructuring and true fiscal federalism is the solution.

Why then are we not doing the obvious? Even when the once champions of same are the ones in power today?
