A major shake-up has taken place in the Nigerian Army with the appointment of a new Theatre Commander for Operation Lafia Dole, and new Director General for the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC). With the new arrangement, Major-General H. Umaru is now the Chief of Training
and Operations at the Army Headquarters, while Brigadier-General S.Z. Kazaure is the new NYSC Director General.
In a posting and appointment letter dated April 11, 2016, obtained by Daily Sun, Major- General L.E. Irabor, will remain as commander Operation Lafia Dole while Brigadier-General Olawunmi, former NYSC
DG, will move to the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, as acting commandant. Brigadier-Generals J.E. Ejeh is

Statement issued by the director general of NYSC on Tuesday 12 April 2016.. Has issued out warnings to all Prospective Corp member resuming on 27th of April to their various orientation camps. To strictly abide in the NYSC rules and terms, as there will be stringent measures to take place at the camp.. Corp members that are used to bring illegal materials such as NYSC khaki wears,sharp objects, pots, stoves and so on will be sent back as soon as this is discovered.. Also only white shorts and white shirts are allowed,white socks,and NYSC caps,state code number, tag number,without a these you may severely punished.ill moral activities are not allowed either, smoking, drinking to stupor, sexual activities will not be torelated during orientation period.. You are to get the needed and accepted material when coming to camp.. More of this will be stated in the callup letter and in the orientation camp..

1.drills, marching exercise, Boring lectures ( drilling better pass this one self, so its an exercise).

2.Yea. Morning and Evening drills, while lectures are held from 9-2pm.

3.Compulsory levies? If yes NO. You ve been provided with virtually everything you need. So no soul will tell u to pay any dime under compulsion. Every payment must come with a plea and a little threat. Maybe by ur platoon officer to carter for ur platoon activities and completions with her likes.

4.On ur arrival, after going to one or two reg points. U will be assigned a hall.

5.Of course not. You only meet in parade ground, outside hostels (male hostel oo) ,mami market and inside bush ( RIP in advance if u re caught).

6.Certainly not. We ve the NYSC officials, Soldiers, Man O'war, Police, Secret service agents( na dis pple bad pass. Dem go follow u wear white and white, kharki, follow buy job, serve punishments with u, sleep in ur hall, bath with u, queue for food, do camp activities with u, All for just obtaining information and arresting u later for better explanations).

7.This depends as the spirit leads. But one thing is sure u won't be hit. I could remember my camp commandant asking one corp member who came late for parade to go and pluck 100 leaves of a particular tree very far from where he was standing and returning them to that same spot. The punishment here is that he must pluck and submit them one by one. D guy fainted on d spot.

8.Yes. Maami is there to make it 13square meal self.

9. Nothing. Just that the best of the accommodation may be filled up before u arrive. I keep saying it, the best day to go to camp is the last day of arrival. Cos u will be treated with great ease. Those that went on day 1 end up achieving nothing, some even experienced loss of items. And the queues for the different points of reg are discouraging. But on d last day, u will be going from desk to desk only u. No stress. I enjoyed this.

10. Long leg. Serious health issue ( I repeat serious health issue), Marriage for d ladies.
11.Departure day. Infact some minutes to ur departure.

12.You guys will be addressed in camp on what to do. Buh me reported to my PPA 3 days after camp and 2 weeks after my acceptance.

1. The main camp exercises includes...drills and looking for a life partner for both men and women.
2. my dear the exercises are done on daily basis especially for those that are not married. Even after camping the exercise continues.
3. of course..u have to give your platoon leader at least 5k..my sister told me that the 5k is called maintenance levy.
4. immediately u are done with your registration the coordinator will assign you to your hall..my sister told me also that it is called hall not room. so take note.
5. No is only soldiers and ladies do stay together for security reasons. But you wee dey waka too much must be careful because when a corper marry soldier na mumu dey go born.
6. No..my uncle is one of the coordinators but na bloody civilian him be.
7. Is like you are afraid of punishment because u no say u must commit don't worry my dear the highest punishment there na frog jump.
8. why not as long as you have your money you can eat as many times as you wish...So come with plenty moni oh If food is your problem.
9. Nothing sha...but if they ask you tell them say u miss your flight. The soldiers go just remove their cap for you because dey go think say you be ibeto daughter.
10. My dear if you no get money no try redeployment unless you have already made job in the state u want to redeploy to.
11. immediately after camping I.e the last day.
12. if your house dey pursue you you can resume immediately but if not you have to go back home & come back in two weeks time.

We live in a world where your destiny is being "determined" by those who never wished you well. A group of people so heartless that through the back door, their sons and daughters are being recruited into CBN but will want to make you believe they cater for your well-being by advertising a police job whose pay is not enough to take you home.

Orientation camp has been postponed for more than two times now without objective appraisal of its aftermath effect on the affected people. Different multinationals have their age limit whenever they want to recruit without recourse to how unencouraging the government policies are, policies that kill dreams and evaporate potentials.

You end up spending almost seven years for a 5 year course(in my own case though) because of the incessant strikes orchestrated by both national and local bodies of ASUU using flimsy excuses that bother on unmerited jumbo pay and the likes.

Now, nysc is broke and yet another date is being set for orientation camp, in reality though painful to admit, nysc CANNOT meet its obligations and responsibilities, so, the new camping date is NOT feasible unless we have our budget assented to by the CinC before 20th. The feasibility of that too is in doubt with the rat and cat game going on between the executive and the legislative.

What's the way forward? In my opinion, nysc is overestimated and its purpose is long defeated. People will argue that if the purpose of a thing is not known, its abuse is inevitable, in this case, it doesn't have any purpose and to save us the stress of travelling hundreds of kilometre and wasting our scarce resource/time, such fruitless "venture" should be scrapped and the money directed to something more rewarding and profitable.
